Abstract:
Consumption is a fundamental determinant of the economic success. Consumer spending is approximately 70 percent of the Gross domestic product (GDP). It is common to divide consumer spending into nondurables (clothing and food), durables (“large” goods, which are not purchased very often), and of course services (day care, banking, medical). The way to identify how the economy influences consumption is to look at specific economic cycles. At the top of the economy (when the economy is strong), people reaction is physically powerful, and consumers spend money freely. When the economy falters, co

Gas billing is always accompanied by unaccounted-for gas loss (UAG) which must be taken into account by gas operators. Gas theft is one of the sources of UAG in the gas distribution area and can be as high as several percent of revenues from gas supplies. The operator should have effective tools to prevent theft, both by detecting and combatting it. Gas companies try to prevent and detect gas theft using various methods. One of them is the continuous control of gas consumption at individual gas consumption points. The gas operator can thus minimize gas losses due to the use of faulty gas meter

The trees are cut down for the olarias. Review question / Objective: The objective of the study was to compare the mean difference and AUROC of Visceral Adiposity Index (VAI) in NAFLD/NASH/liver fibrosis patients and controls in observational studies. Condition being studied: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a multi-system disease, being mainly a liver pathology involving excessive hepatic fat accumulation unrelated to alcohol consumption or other secondary causes of hepatic steatosis. It is an emerging cause of concern and increasing clinical burden, imposing a public health challenge. NAFLD is the most common chronic li

The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region is an emerging center of energy demand. Economic and population growth, increasing industrialization as well as rising living standards are all expected to contribute to a continued increase in the region’s energy consumption over the coming decades. Given that hydrocarbons continue to dominate the region’s energy mix, its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are also expected to keep growing in the absence of further policy measures. In this context, increased focus will be needed on emission reductions and energy sector management. This KAPSARC Discus

Understanding consumer behaviors and habits to ensure low -income consumers have improved access to safe, affordable and nutritious fruits and vegetables in Kenya. The UNEP Food Waste Index Report 2021, indicated that every Kenyan throws away an average of 99 kilograms of food every year, with the country wasting a total of 5.2 tonnes of food every 12 months. Most of this food loss happens post harvest when there is oversupply as well as due to preference of high visually appealing produce. TechnoServe, through the NutriSave project, aims to reduce food loss by increasing consumption of highly

The tables in this document present an inventory of some of the available poverty lines for all IDB member countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. The listed poverty lines are expressed as per capita monthly amounts of nominal local currency and are estimated based on the reference (fieldwork) period of the survey to which they apply. For example, Mexico's INEGI poverty line for 1994 is given in pesos for the 4th quarter of 1994. The only exceptions are the IDB/Poverty Targeted Investments (PTI) poverty lines, which are estimated by using the yearly average of the general consumption pri

This paper studies how quantitative easing (QE) affects household welfare across the wealth distribution. I build a Heterogeneous Agent New Keynesian (HANK) model with household portfolio choice, wage and price rigidities, endogenous unemployment, frictional financial intermediation, an effective lower bound (ELB) on the policy rate, forward guidance, and QE. To quantify the contribution of the various channels through which monetary policy affects inequality, I estimate the model using Bayesian methods, explicitly taking into account the occasionally binding ELB constraint and the QE operatio

Researchers have been studying wide-base tires for over two decades, but no evidence has been provided regarding the net benefit of this tire technology. In this study, a comprehensive approach is used to compare new-generation wide-base tires (NG-WBT) with the dual-tire assembly (DTA). Numerical modeling, prediction methods, experimental measurements, and environmental impact assessment were combined to provide recommendations about the use of NG-WBT. A finite element approach, considering variables usually omitted in the conventional analysis of flexible pavement was utilized for modeling. F

Abstract:
The application of bio-oils in asphalt and polymer-modified asphalt (PMA), has recently received considerable attention as a pivotal method for enhancing the high-temperature performance of asphalt mixtures while maintaining good binder’s workability. In this study, Jatropha curcas oil (JCO) was selected and evaluated as an PMA modifier. JCO-rHDPE-modified bio-asphalt was prepared with different JCO contents: 1, 3, and 5 wt.%. Physical tests (penetration, softening point, and ductility), rheological tests (dynamic viscosity and rolling thin-film oven test–RTFOT), and thermogravimetric analysis
