Nevertheless, prejudices such as „That doesn‟t suit the Japanese‟ continue to exist, because the intimate body contact in ballroom dancing is hard to accept in a culture where „skinship‟ (body contact) is only important during childhood. For this reason, dance schools were under the law controlling Japanese entertainment and the sex industry until 1998. This article deals with the historical situation and cultural issues of social dance in Japan.

Human foragers are obligately group-living, and their high dependence on mutual aid is believed to have characterized our species’ social evolution. It was therefore a central adaptive problem for our ancestors to avoid damaging the willingness of other group members to render them assistance. Cognitively, this requires a predictive map of the degree to which others would devalue the individual based on each of various possible acts. With such a map, an individual can avoid socially costly behaviors by anticipating how much audience devaluation a potential action (e.g., stealing) would cause a

Abstract:
In defining theatre, Robert Lepage returns to its mythic origins. To him theatre is “man in contact with gods and devils.” He wants actors to “transfigure” themselves in performance, and he wants the audience to come out of the theatre “cleansed and empowered” from experiencing that transformation. Lepage’s work is mythic. Poetic. Healing. And he has a process to make it so.

Orality studies provide useful insights about diverse performance factors that may result in the SDGA such as direct contact with the audience, knowledge of the audience about the subject, responsiveness of the audience, the active role of
