Abstract This paper presents an economic life cycle assessments based on the linear process model to justify investment opportunities in a National State Gas Pipelines and Power Plants Projects. The model predicts investments demand vectors of technology, human capital resource utilization, raw materials availability and environment impact categories. Thus the carbon foot print and acidification for each stage of the life cycle investment in the process design stages of economic capital resource decision matrix to the environment impact intervention matrix were simulated in a MATLAB and Excel

Abstract:
Some economists argue antitrust policy should be based on empirical methods used by the Industrial Organization subdiscipline of economics, but non-economists must understand that those methods contain certain highly restrictive assumptions. Those assumptions involve econometric “identification,” and treating aggregate demand as if it were generated by a representative consumer (Muellbauer’s “generalized linear” preferences). We derive new results illustrating how restrictive the representative consumer assumption is; we explain aggregation bias in Almost Ideal Demand System models; and we sho

Abstract:
This paper consolidates research conducted in Bangladesh on three policy cases to understand how gender justice movements formulate their demands on specific issues in response to the backlash they encounter from anti-rights actors. The cases examined are: the formulation of the Domestic Violence Prevention and Protection Act (DVPPA), the Hindu Family Law Reform (HFLR) initiative, and online gender-based violence (OGBV). We examine these cases to highlight the similarities and differences in how the movements strategised to place their demands, the alliances and coalitions they formed, the opp

Not in standard models. With conventional pricing frictions, imposing a flat Phillips curve also imposes a price level that is rigid with respect to supply shocks. In the New Keynesian model, price markup shocks need to be several orders of magnitude bigger than other shocks in order to fit the data, leading to unreasonable assessments of the magnitude of the increase in costs during inflationary episodes. To account for the facts, we propose a strategic microfoundation of shock-dependent price stickiness: prices are sticky with respect to demand shocks but flexible with respect to supply shoc

Abstract:
In democracies, protests are often viewed by citizens as a costly last resort measure to demand more economic and political rights and resources from policymakers by whom they feel unheard. When citizens feel unheard, they may protest. A stark example of this was the Black Lives Matter (BLM) protests ignited by the killing of George Floyd. Over 15 million people participated in BLM protests in 2020 alone, and the protests in the 2010s resulted in it being labelled the ‘decade of protest.’ Many of these protests have highlighted distributive justice claims, from reparations to descendants of Af

As the global shift towards a low-carbon economy accelerates, demand for critical minerals is projected to soar, intensifying pressures on supply chains and local environments. Policies like the European Union’s Critical Raw Materials Act and the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act are increasingly proposed to secure mineral access while upholding environmental standards and reducing ecological impacts. However, mining activities face significant civil resistance worldwide. This paper reveals that opposition to mineral extraction is a pervasive global phenomenon, spanning diverse sociopolitical conte

“Environmental justice is not just about the environment-it about people. It’s about dignity. It’s about equity.” The damage we do to the planet does not land evenly. Dark smoke hangs over busy, low-income neighbourhoods, while coastlines that poor island families call home slowly slip below wave after wave. Too often, those who did the least to cause the problem feel the blow first and hardest. That imbalance sits at the heart of environmental justice. It says that caring for nature and caring for people must walk hand in hand. When a new mine opens, a highway stretches through a community, o

Analyzing Transportation, Climate, and Unintended Consequences of Supply Chain Solutions. Mineta Transportation Institute, 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.31979/mti.2023.2231.

Abstract:
In response to COVID-19 pandemic supply chain issues, the State of California issued Executive Order (EO) N-19-21 to use state land to increase warehousing capacity. This highlights a land-use paradox between economic and environmental goals: adding warehouse capacity increases climate pollution and traffic congestion around the ports and warehouses, while there is a deficit of affordable housing and high homeless rates in port-adjacent underserved communities. This study aims to inform regional policymakers and community stakeholders about these trade-offs by identifying current and future su

The “Building peace by securing rights for victims of conflict and violence in Colombia” project was implemented by Oxfam in Colombia and a network of partners from 2015-2019. It focused on helping victims and Colombian human rights and peace organisations to strengthen their capacities to demand justice for rights violations and to advocate for a more favourable environment to the recognition of victim's rights. The assessment focused on the effectiveness of the project in relation to outcomes extracted from the Theory of Change. It used a combination of participatory methods and tools, the m

Abstract:
We study the allocation of dynamic electric vehicle charging investments from the policymaker’s perspective, which aims to meet statewide emission-reduction targets for the Illinois passenger vehicle sector. We determine statewide charging deployment trajectories over a 30-year planning horizon and estimate their emission reduction. Electric vehicle demand functions model the electrified vehicle market growth and capture network externalities and spatial heterogeneity. Our analysis indicates that most chargers need to be deployed in the first 10 to 15 years of the transition to allow benefits
