The majority of corrosion products consist of colloidal and particulate metals and their oxides. The compounds are swept into the boiler and deposit on boiler tube surfaces. Abstract The corrosion degradation of steam generator tubes is caused by the local breakdown of the protective oxide film on the tube surface. This localized breakdown is most often the result of aggressive chemical environments forming under deposits or in crevices and areas of restricted flow. Less often the protective oxide film is damaged by mechanical means, e.g. fretting wear. It is possible to deduce the environmental conditions within a steam generator from a careful analysis of tube deposit samples and water chemistry. These deposits can be harmful to the steam generator and steam generator tubes by inducing tube degradation such as stress corrosion cracking (SCC), as well as a phenomenon known as “tube denting.” To remove corrosion deposits that have grown over a number of cycles and to mitigate further tube damage, a chemical cleaning may be designed and applied to remove bulk de

Abstract Superheater deposits in a refuse-fired-boiler were subjected to high temperature corrosion tests for evaluating the corrosiveness to boiler tube materials. The specimens of UNS-G1015 carbon steel and UNS-S30400 stainless steel were coated with the deposit and then exposed at 773-873K(500-600ºC) in a static air atmosphere. The test results revealed that the corrosiveness of each deposit was closely related to the deposit chemistry and the test temperature. In the case of carbon steel, the aggressive attack occurred in the presence of a molten mixture comprising sulphates and chlorides.

Abstract The input rate for deposits in steam generators (SGs) is an important concern for utilities, since deposit buildup can impact heat transfer as well as cause significant damage to tubes and other critical SG components. For a typical plant, every 1 ppb of iron in feedwater results in one third of a pound of deposits per day accumulating in the steam generators. Startup activities have been shown to contribute over 100 pounds to the steam generator deposit inventory. There are a number of factors that attribute to the accumulation of deposits, some of which can be mitigated with seconda

Abstract Fouling of equipment surfaces by siliceous materials in industrial water systems is a problem associated with high silica laden waters. The complexity of siliceous deposits formation stems from the limited solubility of amorphous silica and metal silicates. Once formed, these deposits are difficult to remove and often requires the use of chemical and/or mechanical approaches. This paper presents mechanisms of siliceous deposits formation and reviews various approaches attempted to control these deposits in industrial systems. After adopting an inflation targeting framework for monetary policy at the turn of the century, the Central Bank of Colombia started actively using the monetary policy interest rate as its key policy tool. In this regard, this paper examines the interest rate pass-through from the monetary policy rate to the retail rates in Colombia and explores asymmetries in the adjustment process within the framework of a non-linear version of the ARDL (NARDL) model developed by Shin et al. The Gold Hill mining district (western Tooele County, Utah) was active from the late 1800s to the mid-1900s and is Utah’s leading historical producer of tungsten and arsenic. The district was also a past producer of other base and precious metals such as lead and silver. In the modern era of intense focus on domestic sources for critical minerals, the historical tungsten and arsenic production in Gold Hill stimulated renewed research interest in this district. Welding onto an operating pipeline, or in-service welding, for modification and repair has been used safely by pipeline operating companies for many years. The two primary concerns when welding onto carbon steel pipelines are the safety of the repair crew and the integrity of the pipeline after the in-service welds have been completed. However in-service welding has been limited for some products that could react at the pipeline operating pressure if they reach a sufficient temperature that can occur during in-service welding. Inlet air filters are widely used to remove solids and liquid droplets from the ambient air before it enters the compressor of a gas turbine. Clean inlet air provides many advantages: Less corrosion of the compressor and of gas-path hot parts, such as the turbine, decreased compressor fouling, less erosion of the compressor bladeThese in turn prevent deterioration of output and heat rate, and reduce maintenance costs. Compressor fouling is caused by the ingestion of substances that deposit and adhere to blade surfaces, resulting in reduced aerodynamic efficiency and decreased available output.

Its objectives are to characterize the mineralogy of the tailings and their pore water and effluent chemistries. Although cobalt is mostly obtained as a by-product from nickel and copper mining, significant amounts also occur in volcanogenic massive sulfide (VMS) deposits, of which Canada has many. However, the primary controls on cobalt distribution in VMS deposits are poorly understood, and may be affected by deformation and metamorphism. The mechanics of snow friction are central to competitive skiing, safe winter driving and efficient polar sleds. For nearly 80 years, prevailing theory has postulated that self-lubrication accounts for low kinetic friction on snow: dry-contact sliding warms snow grains to the melting point, and further sliding produces meltwater layers that lubricate the interface. We sought to verify that self-lubrication occurs at the grain scale and to quantify the evolution of real contact area to aid modeling. We used high-resolution (15 μm) infrared thermography to observe the warming of stationary snow
