The southern segregates of Veronica (Hebe, Parahebe, Chionohebe, Dementia, and Detzneria) form a monophyletic assemblage of c. 144 species found in New Guinea, Australia, New Zealand, Rapa, and South America. Most of the species occur in New Zealand, where Hebe is the largest genus and a characteristic member of many vegetation types. Cladistic analysis of the Hebe complex, based on 45 characters and 22 terminal taxa, indicates that: (1) Hebe is monophyletic if Hebe 'Paniculatae' is excluded and H. formosa is included; (2) Parahebe is paraphyletic; (3) Chionohebe is monophyletic, but is part o

The literary career and troubled life of Derwent Moultrie Coleridge (1828–80), Derwent Coleridge's eldest son (S. T. Coleridge's first grandson) has been critically overlooked. After a period of alcohol-related, reckless behaviour at Cambridge University, he was exiled to Australia in November 1850, lest he continue to dishonour his father and the Coleridge name. Despite struggling considerably, he quickly became part of an Australian literary circle and he often contributed poems to Sydney newspapers. A simple two-layer one-dimensional box model was constructed to examine the relationships between water quality, estuarine mixing and river flows.
