Batch adsorption-desorption equilibrium techniques were used to investigate the adsorption capacity and influence of salinity on partitioning of the insecticide chlorpyrifos between water and soil or water and sediments from the Rufiji Delta. The data were fitted to different adsorption-desorption models and the hysteresis index was calculated using the ratio between the Freundlich exponents for desorption and adsorption, and secondly, the difference in area under the normalized adsorption and desorption isotherms using the maximum adsorbed and solution concentrations. This paper examines the effects of multicycles of desorption/adsorption on the water isotherms of a typical cement–bentonite mixture. These water isotherms were evaluated over a relative humidity (RH) range of 90% and 0.3%. This study shows that, after the first adsorption–desorption cycle, the subsequent cycle shifted the water isotherm curves upward, particularly at RH < 70%, with a high degree of hysteresis. In contrast, at RH > 70%, the water isotherm curves shifted slightly downward with a low degree of hysteresis. The overall degree of hysteresis slightly decreased with the subsequ

Studies were conducted to evaluate the adsorption–desorption isotherms of a common dry cleaning solvent, perchloroethylene (PCE), in soils, peat moss, and granular activated carbon. The results obtained followed the Freundlich Isotherm, and the organic carbon content of the media was the most significant controlling factor in the adsorption–desorption process. The peat moss exhibited the highest residual saturation concentration for pure PCE amongst all the media tested. The desorption studies indicated that PCE had medium mobility in soil and was not significantly affected by moderate changes

Abstract:
Abstract Within tight reservoirs, gas is stored both as free gas contained in the pores and adsorbed gas on the rock matrix. Adsorbed gas exhibits liquid-like densities resulting in significantly more gas being stored on the rock surface. By having accurate adsorption/desorption data of injected and reservoir gases, one can acquire a better understanding of the true original gas in place, as well as how to maximize production through optimal enhanced gas recovery (EGR) techniques. The aim of this research is to measure the adsorption/desorption isotherms of single-component gases on activated

Abstract:
The adsorption isotherms and kinetics of gaseous methane onto highly porous activated carbon (Maxsorb-III) at temperatures ranging from 278 to 333 K and at different equilibrium pressures between 0.1 and 2.0 MPa have been experimentally measured by the desorption method unlike volumetric or thermo-gravimetric apparatus. The thermophysical properties such as skeletal density, BET surface area, pore size, pore volume and the total porosity of Maxsorb-III have been determined. The Dubinin-Astakhov (DA) and Langmuir isotherm models are found to fit well all of the experimental data within the expe
