Abstract Corrosion activity of microbial associations isolated from different ecological niches was investigated in 4 nutrient media. It was found that these associations act in the same direction in different media and aeration conditions. Both decrease and increase in corrosion losses was observed. It was shown that the subdivision of microorganisms into destructors and passivators is arbitrary. Therefore, change of the environment could become a promising approach to control microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC).
