Abstract:
A new endemic land snail species of the family Discidae, Atlantica (Canaridiscus) saproxylophaga Alonso, G. Holyoak & Yanes 2011, was recently described from La Gomera, Canary Islands (in Yanes et al. 2011). According to Rähle & Allgaier (2011) it is provisorily considered as belonging to the genus Discus. This species lives in the laurel forest and has the largest shell of all the Discidae hitherto known from Macaronesia. In the same habitat where D. saproxylophagus lives, we found individuals of similar size belonging to a second species of the taxon Canaridiscus. These two species s

Abstract The Northern Rocky Mountain ecosystem supports rich biological diversity with many endemic and rare species. Extant endemics display two biogeographic patterns: widespread species with fragmented populations, and narrow-range endemics. These distributions are shown by the congeneric snails Anguispira kochi occidentalis and Anguispira nimapuna. These two taxa are disjunct from the remaining species of the genus, which achieves its greatest diversity in eastern North America. The identity of the "Beloved Disciple" in the Gospel according to John remains an unsolved problem and should therefore be investigated again. The different appearances of the "Beloved Disciple" in the Gospel are discussed, inter alia in a social-historical perspective. The role of the "Beloved Disciple" as literary figure could have been taken by any disciple who had faith and read the Gospel as it was intended and thus recognized the truth about Jesus Christ. As children of God such people are however included in the household of this disciple, whom Jesus loved.

Any conference on discipleship must be rooted in the biblical definition of a disciple. When Jesus commands us to “make disciples,” who or what exactly are we making? What does a disciple look like? We need to look no further than the definition embedded in Jesus’ original mandate known as the Great Commission (Matt 28:16-20). There is a precise structure to this text which gives us the basic characteristics of a disciple. We find here a singular imperative, “make disciples.” What is often overlooked is that this central command is modified by three participles, “going,” “baptizing,” and “teac
