SUMMARY In the last 2 decades, renewed attention to neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) has spurred the development of antiparasitic agents, especially in light of emerging drug resistance. The need for new drugs has required in vitro screening methods using parasite culture. Furthermore, clinical laboratories sought to correlate in vitro susceptibility methods with treatment outcomes, most notably with malaria. Parasites with their various life cycles present greater complexity than bacteria, for which standardized susceptibility methods exist. This review catalogs the state-of-the-art methodo

The rise of drug-resistant tuberculosis poses a severe danger to the global effort to eradicate tuberculosis (DR-TB). Delays in the application of drug susceptibility testing (DST) based on culture led to extended durations of treatment failure and persistent tuberculosis transmission. This article's objective is to give a summary of the several rapid molecular drug susceptibility tests that have proven helpful in promptly identifying DR-TB cases, enabling prompt and efficient treatment of those individuals.

Testing of Mycobacterium bovis BCG strain Montréal for susceptibility to four primary antituberculous drugs (isoniazid, ethambutol, streptomycin, and rifampin) and to one secondary drug (p-aminosalicylic acid) showed the strain to be susceptible to all five substances. Mycobacterium bovis strains ATCC 35735, which is isoniazid sensitive, and ATCC 35747, which is isoniazid resistant, were included in the test; with the exception of their respective susceptibility to isoniazid, both were inhibited by the other four drugs. Key words: BCG Montréal, drug susceptibility, cancer.

However, rare strains of M tuberculosis resistant only to PZA have been described in a previous study. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether a partial D₂-like dopamine agonist (i.e. terguride) would block the induction or expression of cocaine-induced behavioral sensitization in pre-weanling rats. The availability of choice of systemically active antifungal agents and the proliferation in the number of fungal species implicated in invasive disease have meant that clinicians are increasingly looking for guidance from clinical laboratory results to help select the most appropriate agent. There are now well-established and predictable patterns of innate in vitro resistance to one or more antifungal agents associated with many yeast and mould species. This paper discusses recent results toward the design, rapid prototyping and testing of a ducted microquadcopter. Mobility and convenience objectives of this work dictate that the quadcopter must fit into a pocket, be capable of shooting high-definition videos and pictures, be controllable through a smartphone application, have a rotor diameter of 7cm and weigh approximately 300 g. Previous designs have rotor dimensions of 25 cm or more as well as airframe width and length of 75 cm and above.
