This study advances knowledge about the Australian independent dance sector and identifies barriers to making dance work for Brisbane independent dance creators, presenting a three-tier framework to systematically address and prevent the recurrence of these existing barriers. The thesis utilised a mixed methodology that generated related data, including analysis of practice, a literature and contextual review of claims about practice, and a survey of Brisbane independent dance artists.

Abstract:

This thesis explored the acquisition of pedagogical expertise by dance teachers in a tertiary setting. The constraints-led theoretical framework with a qualitative approach was utilised to undertake a retrospective investigation of the potential factors, or constraints, influencing the acquisition of pedagogical expertise in dance. The results identified five themes, which were mapped into the constraints-led theoretical framework as environmental constraints (i.e., mentors, role models and students); task constraints (i.e., rules); and, individual constraints (i.e., needs). <p>The purpose of this study was to examine the level and extent of community participation in the Danga Ecological Sanitation Project carried out in the Zvishavane district of Zimbabwe. The people-centered approach was chosen as a theoretical background. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were used to gather relevant information.
