AbstractIn the second half of the 18th century and early 19th century, a rising interest in Old Norse literature outside the Nordic countries could be noted that, to a great deal, focused on the Poetic Edda and the Prose Edda as sources for Norse mythology. This interest is also reflected in the works of the Polish historian Joachim Lelewel (1786–1861) who, in 1807 and 1828, published translations and retellings of the Poetic and the Prose Edda. These were based on French, German and Latin translations. The second edition of 1828 is characterised by a more comprehensive section with eddic poetry, the selection of which is also explained by Lelewel, as well as an essay on pre-Christian religion that also includes a research overview and a list of editions/translations of the Eddas.

Abstract This article focuses on Joachim Lelewel’s interest in Old Norse literature as reflected in his paper on Old Norse literature delivered in 1806 and his book Edda that was published a year later. Lelewel’s Edda comprises the first Polish translation (partly as a concise retelling) of selected parts of the French translation of the Poetic Edda and the Snorra Edda as included in Paul Henri Mallet’s Monumens de la mythologie [...] published in 1756. Lelewel’s work is placed in the context of the rising interest in this literature before 1800, whereby special attention is put on the sources Lelewel resorted to, in particular Mallet’s publications and articles in the French literary magazine Magasin Encyclopedique. Comparing the Eddas in Lelewel’s and Mallet’s publications, one can, among other things, note that Lelewel (1) ignores the literary value of the dialogue form in Gylfaginning due to a narrow focus on the mythological content (2) relates the migration of the Scythians to northern Europe in his introduction which thus serves as a substitute for the missing Prologue to the Snorra Edda and (3) partly deviates from Mallet in his footnotes. Aspects (2) and (3) can also be linked back to Lelewel’s use of Magasin Encyclopedique.

Tari Nirbaya karya Setyastuti, merupakan sebuah karya tari baru yang berorientasi pada tradisi „edanedanan‟sebagai sumber penciptaannya. „Edan-edanan‟ merupakan sebuah ritual adat dalam upacaratemanten agung Kraton Yogyakarta, yang berfungsi sebagai penolak bala. Bentuk „edan-edanan‟menggambarkan wujud orang gila yang dipercayai dapat mengusir hal-hal gaib yang dapat menggangguacara. Dalam tari Nirbaya akan nampak adanya hasil dari hubungan pengaruh mempengaruhi, yaitu pengaruhdari „edan-edanan‟ sebagai obyek sumber penciptaan di dalam karya tari baru yang tercipta. Pengaruhtersebut dapat dilihat dari elemen-elemen „edan-edanan‟ yang masih dapat diidentifikasi dalam tari Nirbaya.Pengaruh secara visual terdapat pada rias, busana, properti dan gerakannya, sedangkan dari aspek nilaiterdapat pada esensi tolak bala yang masih ada pada tari Nirbaya.Kata kunci: „edan-edanan‟, nirbaya, pengaruh

I uppsatsen studeras förekomsten av giftermål som rit i Den Poetiska Eddan och Snorres

Edda, med följande frågeställning: Hur ser förekomsten av giftermål som rit ut i Den poetiska

Eddan och Snorres Edda, finns det någon skillnad mellan verken? Metoden är en textanalys i

historisk kontext, där analysverktygen består av nyckelord. Uppsatsen avser en breddning av

begreppet giftermål med hjälp av följande nyckelord: giftermål/bröllop, äktenskap/äkta,

fria/frieri, brud, brudgum, maka/hustru/fru samt make/man. Utifrån nyckelorden valdes aktuella

citat från eddorna. I teoridelen sätts giftermålet in i en teoretisk kontext och grundas där i

Fiona Bowie och Catherine Bells ritualteorier. Resultatet av citaten grundas även i historisk

forskning av Gro Steinsland, Sharon Ratke och Rudolf Simek, Britt-Mari Näsström, Auður

Magnúsdòttir och Björn Collinder. En kort presentation av eddorna föregår resultatdelen där

alla de utvalda citaten presenteras, kommenteras och analyseras. Resultatet visar utifrån de

utvalda nyckelorden hur förekomsten av giftermål som rit ser ut i eddorna. Handlingen giftermål

är inte närmare beskriven mer än ett fåtal gånger, men det finns betydligt fler tillfällen

där ord och kontexter går att knyta till riten giftermål. Skillnaden som framkommit i jämförelsen

av eddorna är att det i resultatet, med anknytning i litteraturen, går att knyta fler citat till

Den poetiska Eddan än till Snorres Edda. I giftermålskontexten är det liknande teman som

berörs i båda verken, det är bara omfattning och framställning som skiljer sig åt.

Abstract:

With this essay we would like to examine to what extent the ancient Icelandic literature could count as a part of Sweden’s literal cultural heritage in schools today, if it through seeking information is possible to say whether this literature have any connections to Sweden. Our questions of issue are:

1. What kind of connection is there between ancient Icelandic literature and Swedish literary cultural heritage and what are the ancient Icelandic literature premises’ in the Swedish upper secondary school?

2. In what extent is the ancient Icelandic literature used within the Swedish subject’s in the upper secondary schools social science program and how do the teachers motivate their use? 

To answer question of issue 1 will the ancient Icelandic literature role as Swedish literary cultural heritage be examined based on what texts researchers and experts regards to be representative, also the connection between the ancient Icelandic literature and Sweden the experts claim. To answer question of issue 2 we have used questionnaires with quantitative and qualitative elements. The questionnaires have been sent out to 21 upper secondary schools in Sweden and the respondents are teachers working within the social science program. The result of the questionnaires show that the teachers who have answered believe that it is important to consider the ancient Icelandic literature in school, that it belongs to the Swedish literary cultural heritage, although many of the teachers claim to work only short periods with the subject and do not look into it deeper. The results also show that the literature has an obvious but still small place in textbooks and that this literature, to a great deal, portray even Swedish mythology and culture: the ancient Icelandic literature is the oldest preserved source we have to our own culture.


 

Genom denna uppsats vill vi undersöka i vilken utsträckning den fornisländska litteraturen kan räknas som en del av Sveriges litterära kulturarv i skolan idag, om det via faktasökning går att utröna huruvida denna litteratur har några kopplingar till Sverige. De frågeställningar vi har som utgångspunkt är:

1.Vilka samband finns det mellan fornisländsk litteratur och svenskt kulturarv och hur ser premisserna för den fornisländska litteraturen ut i svenska gymnasieskolan?

2. I vilken utsträckning används den fornisländska litteraturen inom svenskämnet på gymnasiets samhällsvetenskapliga linje och hur motiverar lärarna användandet?

För att besvara frågeställning 1 undersöks den fornisländska litteraturens roll som svenskt kulturarv baserat på vilka texter som forskare och kunniga på området anser representativa, dels de kopplingar mellan den fornisländska litteraturen och Sverige som dessa tar upp. För att besvara frågeställning 2 har vi använt enkäter med kvantitativa och kvalitativa inslag som skickats ut till 21 gymnasieskolor i hela Sverige. Enkäterna besvaras av lärare som arbetar inom det samhällsvetenskapliga programmet.

Resultatet av enkätundersökningarna visar att de lärare som svarat anser att det är viktigt att beröra den fornisländska litteraturen i skolan, att den tillhör även det svenska kulturarvet dock visar sig många arbeta korta perioder med området och går inte in djupare.

Undersökningen visar också att denna litteratur har en given men liten plats i läromedel och att denna litteratur till relativt stor del skildrar även svensk mytologi och kultur: den fornisländska litteraturen är den äldst bevarade källa till vår egen kultur vi har.

Kersti Ståbi Performing poems from the Poetic Edda I am a folk singer and oral storyteller. In my Masters project I have made a series of concerts performing the poem Vǫluspá from the Poetic Edda in its original Old Norse. Building on the musical elements in the Eddic poems, I’ve been searching the borderlands between speech and singing, using melodic material in the modern Swedish and Norwegian languages. As a method I have imitated singers in different living epic singing traditions from around the world, basing the creative process on mimicry and improvisation. This was a fast route to performances of great diversity: the Manas singer from Kyrgyzstan gradually enters a trancelike state, while Pansori from Korea made me think "unmelodic folk opera" and the Indian Pandvani is all-or-nothing storytelling with music serving as an engine. One specific perspective I have researched is the concept of a ”First Listener” - a representative of the audience on stage that can, but doesn’t necessarily have to, contribute musically. Traditionally the First Listener in Pandvani is very active; singing, shouting and challenging the teller, while the Pansori First Listener is a supporting commenting percussionist. As a storyteller and lead singer I found the presence of a First Listener highly fruitful in the process leading up to the performances. As a stage concept it offers forceful dynamics between the singer, the listeners and the poem. The poems of the Poetic Edda were created and performed in an oral tradition, but survived to modern times only via written text. I regard myself a performer formed in a literate culture but in an oral music tradition. With that in mind I have explored performance of this epic material and its metres. Translation has become a keyword with many facets.

Jacob Elfwing: Från ragnarök till ainulindalë: En komparativ studie av Eddan och J.R.R. Tolkiens The Silmarillion (2017). Självständigt arbete. Svenska Va, 15 högskolepoäng. Institutionen för humaniora, utbildnings- och samhällsvetenskap. Uppsatsen analyserar J.R.R. Tolkiens roman The Silmarillion (1977) i förhållande till Eddan. Syftet med analysen är att se hur den nordiska mytologin återkommer i Tolkiens verk och vad detta kan tänkas få för betydelse för romanen. En komparativ metod används i form av parallell läsning av Tolkiens roman och Eddan. Analysen visar att The Silmarillion på olika plan har likheter med Eddan. I vissa fall rör det sig om uppenbara influenser medan andra likheter är mer allmänna och inte med säkerhet kan påstås komma från Eddan. Däremot kan man knappast säga att Eddan haft någon mer djupgående inverkan på The Silmarillion som helhet. Avslutningsvis behandlas studiens didaktiska potential inom gymnasieskolan.

Abstract:
The aim of this paper is to examine which conceptions of the forest that are most frequently appearing in Codex Regius. Codex Regius contains a number of texts about the Old Norse mythological world. To reach the goal of the paper aspects have been brought from earlier studies of this field, and from my own observations in my initial reading of the primary sources. These aspects then have been used to create categories to apply on the empirical material in the analytic chapter of this paper. Firstly, when it comes to the analytic chapter, the mentions of the forest in each of the used texts are discussed and categorized. This is done by reasoning, with the help of for example the secondary sources as support for my interpretations. After this the complete result, from all the texts combined, is summoned and analyzed. The result shows that three categories of possible conceptions about the forest is most frequently appearing in the primary source material. These categories involves conceptions of the forest as a source of resources, the forest as a refugee and/or shelter, and the forest as connected to beings that are not gods (as for example giants, trolls and wolves). Further when it comes to the result, this is more in detail presented and discussed at the end of the analytic chapter of the paper and in the thereafter following chapter. In short the goal of this paper is being met.

Uppsatsen presenterar en diplomatarisk utgåva av ett stycke text ur handskriften R 683, från senare hälften av 1600-talet. Texten är en avskrift av delen Gylfaginning ur Snorri Sturlusons Edda enligt versionen nedskriven i handskriften DG 11, från tidigt 1300-tal. Uppsatsens syfte är att presentera en hittils relativt ostuderad text som en självständig skriftprodukt, samt försöka att spåra dess specifika drag som skiljer den från dess ursprungstext samt övriga versioner av Snorris Edda. Undersökningen har genomförts utifrån ett nyfilologiskt perspektiv, inte med tanke på dess relation till övriga versioner utan med fokus på vad som egentligen står i handskriften. Resultatet visar att texten i R 683 skiljer sig något från DG 11, och jämförelseundersökningen med övriga Edda-versioner visar att skrivaren, Jón Rúgmann, använt sig av andra källor för sin avskrift, i synnerhet de i handskrifterna Codex Regius, Codex Wormianus samt Peder Resens (Resenius) utgåva av Laufás Edda. Samtidigt visar skrivarens arbete tecken på en personlig kunskap i den medeltida isländska textproduktionen, vilket förklarar de tillägg och kommentarer som inte är direkt tagna ur texter utan tyder på vidare forskning eller förkunskaper. Slutligen lyfter uppsatsen fram Jón Rúgmanns vetenskapliga förtjänster i den nordiska filologins tidiga etablering i Sverige samt presenterar den stora potential i förbisedda handskrifterna som R 683.

Samhällsplanering är en stor fråga med många olika perspektiv. I Agenda 2030 beskrivs två mål som är direkt applicerbara på samhällsplanering. Mål 3 innebär att alla människor, oavsett ålder ska ha förutsättningar för att leva ett gott liv med gott välbefinnande där mötet med andra människor är en viktig faktor. Det andra målet, Mål 11 innebär att bostadsområden och städer ska vara inkluderande och hållbara. I Sverige har vi en växande befolkning som är 65 år och äldre. Detta som en effekt av den ökade livslängden och gäller även i Åredalen.   Intresset för att tillbringa tid i Åre växer och en effekt av detta är att efterfrågan på både fritids- och permanentbostäder ökar. Under 1980-talet flyttade många till Åre och av de som blivit kvar i Åredalen sedan dess är det flera som bor i villor. Dessa villor skulle kunna vara intressanta för de yngre generationer som börjat bilda familj och etablerar sig i dalgången. Idag saknas boende som riktar sig till generationen 55+ trots att undersökningen i studien visar på att behovet finns. En slutsats av studien är att ett boendekoncept som riktar sig till bland annat målgruppen 55+ skulle kunna stimulera flyttkedjan i dalgången.   Syftet med studien är att ta fram ett koncept för exploatering av en 45 000 kvadratmeter stor fastighet i Åre by med det sociala perspektivet som utgångspunkt. Fastigheten ingår i fastighetsbolaget Diös bestånd idag och de befintliga byggnaderna inrymmer olika typer av verksamheter. Några av de verksamheter som finns på fastigheten är vård, polis och coworkingytor.   Eddadikten ”Människan är människans största glädje” har använts som utgångspunkt vid framtagningen av förslaget. För att skapa ett förslag med anknytning till det behov som finns i dalgången baseras förslaget på den enkätundersökning samt de intervjuer och platsbesök som genomförts under studiens gång.
Urban planning is challenging and includes many different perspectives. Agenda 2030 describes two objectives that are directly applicable to urban planning. Objective 3 means that all humans, regardless of age, should have the prerequisites to live a good life with good well-being where meeting with other people is an important factor. The other objective, Objective 11, means that residential areas and cities should be inclusive and sustainable. In Sweden, we have a growing population that is 65 years and older. This is an effect of the increased length of life and also applies in Åredalen.   The interest of spending time in Åre is growing and one effect of this is that the demand for both holiday and permanent housing is increasing. During the 1980s, many people moved to Åre. Of those who have remained in the valley since then, several lives in villas. These villas could be of interest to the younger generations who have started to establish their family life in the valley. Today, there is no accommodation aimed at the generation 55+ even though the study shows that the need exists. One conclusion of the study is that an accommodation concept aimed at, among other things, the target group 55+ could stimulate the moving chain in the valley.   The purpose of the study is to develop a concept for the development of a 45,000 square meter property in Åre based on the social perspective. The property is part of the real estate company Diö's portfolio today and the existing buildings house different types of businesses. Some of the activities carried out on the properties are healthcare, police and coworking areas.   The eddic poem "Man is man's greatest joy" has been used as a starting point in the preparation of the proposal. In order to create a proposal related to the needs of the valley, the proposal is based on the survey as well as the interviews and site visits conducted during the study.

Abstract:

Uppsatsen är en studie av det sätt på vilket författaren Johanne Hildebrandt har använts sig av den fornskandinaviska mytologin när hon skrivit sin trilogi om Freja och Valhalla. Hon har använt flera karaktärer, myter och beskrivningar från bronsålder, Skandinaviens i allmänhet och Sveriges i synnerhet, och lagt dem som grund för sina böcker. Hon väljer att vinkla boken ur ett feministiskt perspektiv och sätter stort fokus på matriarkatet. Ingen vet säkert hur samhället var uppbyggt för 2700 år sedan, och Hildebrandt såg sin chans att skriva boken ur ett perspektiv där kvinnan och Gudinnan stod i centrum.

Hon har onekligen använt mycket från mytologin. Ju mer påläst man är om fornskandinavisk religion desto mer kopplingar märker man. Hildebrandt har på ett mer eller mindre framträdande sätt lagt in olika likheter och olikheter. Jag har valt att lägga fokus på de tre kvinnorna som givit namn åt de olika böckerna, Freja, Idun och Saga. Freja och Saga är de gudinnor som likar sina förebilder, mytologins Freyja och Sága, mest. Fokus läggs på den starka kvinnan som klarar sig med hjälp av egen vilja och maskin. Hildebrandt har fokuserat på det passionerade och handlingskraftiga hos dessa kvinnor. Idun, som har mytologins Iðunn som grundare, har däremot getts en svagare roll. Idun är undfallande och är mycket osäker på sig själv. Hildebrandt väljer här att lägga fokus på Iduns moderlighet.

Karaktärerna i boken är lättare att översätta till dagens samhälle än hela den struktur samhället i Hildebrandts bok är uppbyggt på. Inget samhälle idag kretsar kring kvinnan vilket ter sig mer som ett önsketänkande från Hildebrandts sida. Böckernas syfte är trots allt att underhålla.

Abstract:

Arbetets syfte är att göra en aktualiserad framställning av ämnet trädkult. En viktig del av syftet har också varit att göra en mera heltäckande materialgenomgång än tidigare studier. Framställningen kommer huvudsakligen att beröra den fornskandinaviska religionen men utblickar kommer att bli nödvändiga för att komplettera materialet. Således kommer även kontinentalgermanska och samiska områden att beröras, kontinentalgermanskt område något utförligare, samiskt område i form av ett exempel. Visserligen kommer arbetet i mycket att ha karaktären av en betraktelse. Som sådan blir den resonerande såtillvida att då någon källa har redovisats och/eller den i respektive fall eventuelle forskaren har fått lägga dit sina aspekter kommer jag att i vissa fall ha små reflektioner att tillägga. Trots detta vill jag ändå som tillägg sätta en traditionell frågeställning eftersom inget uppsatsarbete borde undvika att söka besvara åtminstone någon eller några frågor. De frågor den här uppsatsen kommer att söka besvara blir:

  • Kan en koppling mellan myt och rit påvisas?
  • Finns det möjlighet att påvisa ett mikro-, makrokosmiskt förhållande?
  • Fanns det maktlegitimerande skäl för kultplatsen?

Abstract:
Design S-N curves in design codes are based on fatigue test data where the stress cycle is under external tension load. It is observed that during pile driving most of the stress cycle is compressive and the design procedure used for fatigue analysis of piles might therefore be conservative. In order to investigate this further it was proposed to perform laboratory fatigue testing of specimens that are representative for butt welds in piles under relevant loading conditions. In the present project 30 test specimens made from welded plates were fatigue tested at different loading conditions to assess effect of compressive stress cycles as compared with tensile stress cycles. During 2006 the Edda tripod in block 2/7 was taken ashore. This platform has been in service since 1976 and the piles are considered to be representative for the piles installed in the North Sea jacket structures during the seventies. Therefore it was suggested to investigate the pile weld at the sea bed in detail to learn about the actual fabrication, the residual stress at the weld after pile driving and 30 years of in service life and residual fatigue life of the pile. 6 test specimens made from the Edda pile were fatigue tested. The results from the assessment and the fatigue testing are presented in this paper.
