This study examines socio-economic factors underlying the demand for private tutoring. The analysis utilizes two samples of students from lower- and upper-level secondary schools in Poland based on the PISA 2006 data set. Special attention is paid to channels through which private tutoring may endure socio-economic inequalities, especially in the context of the gender gap in education outcomes. We find that parents' decisions concerning private education are sensitive to student gender, which may raise concerns for policymakers committed to provide equal opportunities and outcomes in education

The first chapter examines the impact of ITES Centers on school enrollment using administrative enrollment data from three states in India, and finds that when these centers open, enrollment in primary school increases significantly. The Australian study is the first to provide evidence for couples intervention via videoconferencing as a viable alternative to face-to-face. Thirty couples were randomly assigned to either a face-to-face, or videoconferencing condition, and completed a couples behavioural education program. Through qualitative analysis several themes were identified, reflecting open-mindedness, acceptance, satisfaction, and the establishment of a strong working alliance. Statistical analysis further supported these finding, showing no significant effect of the technology, and positive clinical outcomes.

This study explores the normative frameworks through which selected parents, students, teachers, and education activists in three villages in rural Pakistan understand and articulate the value of girls' schooling. It argues that within the dominant analytical paradigms of human capital theory and neoliberalism, researchers and policymakers have tended to conceptualise 'demand' for schooling in terms that are narrowly focused upon measuring and boosting enrolment, and thus have failed to capture whether and how shifting enrolments correspond to shifting norms and to the broader imaginative regi

In the U.S., there are claims of a widespread national shortage while research indicates teacher shortages are specific to certain subjects and schools.
