Abstract:
The automotive industry is under increasing pressure to enhance vehicle fuel efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Lightweighting, the strategic reduction of vehicle mass, has emerged as a critical enabler in achieving these goals. This research article comprehensively examines the impact of lightweighting on both vehicle dynamics and fuel efficiency. By reducing inertia, lightweighting directly translates to lower energy consumption during acceleration and deceleration, leading to improved fuel economy. Furthermore, a lighter vehicle exhibits enhanced agility, responsiveness, and br

Abstract The relationship between intellectual property (IP) and innovation has been discussed extensively in extant literature. However, the dynamic essence of IP as an institutional context, particularly its setback and reversal, has received little attention. Through the lens of institutional dynamics theory, this study identifies four asymmetric categories of IP institutional dynamics: accelerating reforms, decaying reforms, decaying reversals, and accelerating reversals in a typical emerging market, China. A model is developed for simulating and predicting the dynamics of intake-manifolds for automotive internal combustion engines. A thermodynamic control volume approach and bond graphs are used to derive mass and energy conservation equations. Simulation outputs include time histories of pressure, temperature, mass flow, energy flow, heat flow and overall volumetric efficiency. Cylinder pressure when the intake valve closes is intensively examined because it determines the volumetric efficiency. Increases in volumetric efficiency result from increases in pressure caused by dynamic effects. Volu

Ice sheets, such as the Greenland Ice Sheet or Antarctic Ice Sheet, have a fundamental impact on landscape formation, the global climate system, and on sea level rise. The slow, creeping flow of ice can be represented by a non-linear version of the Stokes equations, which treat ice as a non-Newtonian, viscous fluid. Large spatial domains combined with long time spans and complexities such as a non-linear rheology, make ice sheet simulations computationally challenging. The topic of this thesis is the efficiency and error control of large simulations, both in the sense of mathematical modelling

Reducing the transmission bandwidth and achieving higher speech quality are primary concerns in developing new speech coding algorithms. The goal of this thesis is to improve the perceptual speech quality of algorithms that employ linear predictive coding (LPC). Most LPC-based speech coders extract parameters representing an all-pole filter. This LPC analysis is performed on each block or frame of speech. To smooth out the evolution of the LPC tracks, each block is divided into subframes for which the LPC parameters are interpolated. This improves the perceptual quality without additional tran

We study, using the non-parametric data envelopment approach, we investigated the long-run profit efficiency dynamics and the short-run market reaction of nine pre-classified merger deals of merging and non-merging U.S. banks over the time period from 1992 to 2003. Our main results are as follows: First, merger deals that match least efficient acquirers with the least efficient targets could improve their profit efficiency four years following the merger event, unlike all other merger deals. Second, we find that mergers match least efficient acquirers with the least efficient targets

The latter leads to the construction of a new bank production model, emphasising risk management as part of a bank??s value-added.
