This study empirically examines the relation between supplier-base concentration and inventory efficiency in the Chinese manufacturing sector. Using hand-collected data from annual reports during 2007–2015, the authors find that manufacturers with a more concentrated supplier base hold fewer inventories, and the efficiency primarily flows through the raw materials and work-in-process inventory accounts. The authors find that small firms benefit more from a concentrated supplier base in inventory efficiency than large firms do. The authors also find that the positive effect of supplier-base con

Abstract:
The gas transport system on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS) consists of more than 6 600 km of pipelines and is the largest offshore gas transport system in the world. In 2004, dry gas exports from the NCS totalled 77.7 billion scm. The network is operated at very high pipeline pressure, up to 210 bar, and there are few booster stations along the way. Combined with the low ambient temperature, the high pressure provides the opportunity to store much gas in these long pipelines. A major challenge is to operate the pipelines at optimum inventory. This implies a delicate balance between high

Abstract:
Abstract Traditional supply chain policies and design efforts, such as lean-manufacturing, prize efficiency over all other factors. These traditional design principles are being challenged as supply chains around the globe struggle to bounce back from an array of recent disruptions. This brings up the longstanding battle between profit driven efficiency goals and redundancy efforts that support demand in times of need. Supply chain design guidelines that address resilience thus require a balanced approach between efficiency and redundancy, one that presents flexibility in a way that acknowledg

Abstract:
The US Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) has begun an investigation of the load conditions experienced by a traveling kevel when moored to a moving barge train. These traveling kevel systems are essential for the safe and efficient use of the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) navigation lock inventory. This work is being conducted as part of the Navigation Systems Research Program of the Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory (CHL). Recent failures of traveling kevels suggest that the existing design guidance for design loads for traveling kevels may need updating. This Coastal
