Moment resistant frames are mainly used in resisting lateral loads in buildings. During the 1994 Northridge Earthquake, some of these moment steel frame connections could not undergo inelastic deformation which led to many structural damages. New connection systems were proposed and tested which performed better than the pre-Northridge moment frame connections. Reduced beam section (RBS) connection is one of the most widely used connections after the Northridge Earthquake. In this thesis, a hybrid-stress finite element is developed for nonuniform Timoshenko beams. The element stiffness matrix is obtained by assuming a stress field only. Since element boundaries are simply the element nodes, a displacement assumption is not necessary. Geometric and mass stiffness matrices are obtained via equilibrium and kinematics of deformation equations which are derived in the beam arbitrary cross-section. The participants were all the six graders, including 172 students from Taoyuan municipal Cheng-gong Primary school. The first instrument used in this study was “The Semesters’ Assessment for Basic English Ability in Taoyuan Country for 2005”
