The article traces the evolution of territorial heraldry in the Kharkiv Region (northeastern Ukraine). Emblem-making began here rather late — in the second half of the eighteenth century, although first references to local territorial coats of arms belong to the second half of the 17th century. It proceeded under the influence of long-established Western European tradition and according to rules developed within the framework of a centralized Russian Empire. During the Soviet period, such traditions and rules underwent a radical revision. This uneven historical background determined the unique

As a companion to the All-Ukrainian Photo and Film Administration VUFKU, the magazine stands out as a unique emblem of Ukrainian socialist culture. It plays a crucial role in decentralising the dominant Russo-centric narratives of the era, offering valuable research sources that have been largely ignored in established film studies traditions.

Abstract Artificial Intelligence is poised to change war’s nature, not just its character. This chapter explores the psychology of strategic decision-making in humans, other animals, and now AI. It argues that strategy demands social intelligence, and in particular “theory of mind”—the ability to intuit what others are thinking, the better to weigh their likely actions. Today’s large language models embed “world models,” including models of other minds. As these develop, the near future of strategy will involve human-machine teams, speaking a common language but with radically different underl

Global resource markets are still reeling from the impacts of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine; the two countries are major suppliers of energy, food and fertilizers. Supply disruption and the sudden imposition, in response to the crisis, of unprecedented economic sanctions, trade restrictions and policy interventions have caused prices of commodities to skyrocket. Before the conflict, demand for global resources already exceeded supply and drove up prices as economies rebounded after the COVID-19 pandemic. This gave rise to a global cost-of-living crisis, characterized by increasing levels of ene
