Abstract:
The factors that limit human endurance have received extensive scientific scrutiny. Traditionally these limiting factors have been attributed to physiological processes occurring within the muscles, the cardiovascular system, or spinal and supraspinal sites. Consequently, interventions designed to provoke alterations in endurance performance are generally tailored towards targeting these physiological processes. Recent research suggests that endurance performance is also limited by psychobiological influences: specifically perception of effort (RPE). On this basis the psychobiological model of

Abstract:

Oswald, Peter J. "The effect of cognitive strategies on endurance performance." Thesis, 1994. https://vuir.vu.edu.au/18202/.

Abstract:
Subjectively perceived pain or effort is a major factor which limits endurance performance. It has been claimed that cognitive strategies can mediate perceived effort and enhance endurance performance (Morgan & Pollock, 1977). These authors have suggested that association, focusing on bodily sensations and race related stimuli, is the most effective strategy for elite marathon runners. On the other hand, Pennebaker and Lightner (1980) found a dissociative strategy, distracting attention from bodily signals, to be more effective with college students. The purpose of the present study was

Abstract:
There exist a wide variety of metabolic responses to different types of carbohydrates and their influence on metabolism during endurance training. Recent studies revealed that the physiological responses to food are far more complex than was previously appreciated. The rapid release of insulin and the decline in blood sugar levels during the first stages of endurance training are linked to the Glycemic Index of foods. Researchers cannot still make use of the old distinction between starchy and sugary food or simple and complex carbohydrates. These distinctions are based on the chemical analysi
