Full textUnfortunately the secondary geography teaching in Mozambique is taught without considering the conceptual advance. The actual research shows that if there are obstacles to apply it, means also exist to make it easier. The running of the spiral structure of the teaching programs, the use of schools manuals particularly the atlas one, which has to be considered as a compulsory and basical working book, the organisation of a self education based on constructivism will allow a more efficient conceptual advance. To reach this aim, changes are necessary and particular in the teaching program and the teachers training. Do means really exist to realise reforms? What kind of geography can be taught and what will it be for? From now on, what will be the secondary teacher training model?

Full textIn spite of some attempts, mostly devoted to the African educational systems during the years 1970-1980, the reflection over the oral cultures and the written cultures has not been able to escape from a certain equation orality - "savage thinking", originating totally contestable developments from a scientific point of view. If one assumes that it would be more understandable what the anthropologists call "primitive mentality", "practical knowledge", "magic thinking", taking into account that these realities appear inside of organized social universes, out of any practical of writing, it would be fully achievable to conceive there the introduction of writing practices as constitutive of new forms of social relationships and cultural distinctions. Unlike the "ethnic" socialization - mimic and repetitive, attended by a "mythology" and a ritualization -, it was under the scholar form (manuals black boards, lessons made of questions-answers) the writing has been divulged in the black societies of Mozambique and this divulging phenomenon couldn't intervene without deep transformations of religion and political power. So, started after the 12th century with the madrasa, the school became after the 17th century, and due to the teaching of the Jesuits ; a disciplinary space which the social actors try to take to themselves with the objective of keeping control of the conflicts or to access new forms of power (the trade, the administrative activities, and so on)

Full textOur thesis concerns design, development and implementation of distributed learning interactive environments. These environments aim to support continuing communication among students who are in different locations and available at various moments, as well as the development of exchange networks between groups of students, thereby stimulating the learner's intellectual communication with his peers. More precisely, the thesis attempts to demonstrate that it is possible to design a user-friendly and efficient help system for the use of any type of facilitators who intervene in a cooperative distance learning process. A person who is in a leadership situation and faced with a problem related to the telelearning process should, at all time, benefit from some support through direct access to this help system that was designed for him and according to his needs. The work done involves the design of a cooperative learning support environment, within the context of pedagogical management assisted by computer networks, in distance education. It proposes a cooperative learning support model based on intelligent agents cooperation. This model rests on the clarification of the leader's role which may be assigned to a facilitator agent, and on the context where this leadership is carried out. At first glance, the leader presents himself as a help resource inside or outside a group, who plays a facilitating role as regards learners integration into a learning group. By acting this way, the leader tries to ensure everyone's contribution in meeting learning objectives set by the group, through group discussion and production activities. The originality of this model resides in the fact that it is oriented towards the help that is made available to all resources that facilitate distance and group learning in a context of computer-assisted pedagogical management, rather than towards the help brought to the student

Full textThe management of time in school by teachers can be an important mechanism for the improvement of the quality of teaching in order to adapt the pupils learning need, which forces us to support that the maintains us flexible management of school-time by teachers. Because that the past primary educational system in Mozambique was considered as one of limitative factors for the management due for the reality performance of the classroom, this research proves that the simple reform of the curriculum is not the enough condition to have the innovations in the teachers. In fact, from the analysis of a new curriculum statement, we discovered a definition of an educative politics on which the reinforce the need of school the construction new school of the success, where the failure of pupils is not- advised within pluri-annual cycle. Yet for school of an educational quality, that promotes for relevant education and centralized on the pupils, complaining for the commitment of dissimilarity administration of the pupil and schoolarity for all children of the country. However, from these innovations, assessment of the teachers` skills shows, us that they need to be mobilized, which requires an appropriation for this reform as condition for its implementation in effective way. Thus, the practice analysis of teachers for new curriculum implementation allowed us to clarify the current condition of the appropriation for this reform by the teachers, the condition in which contributes. In order to consider another effective improvement of attendance and the reform leading, considering the context of the professional teachers, implementation and the availability means of the teaching and those which should be used as references reform explanation, the accompaniment performers of the reform, the space and the time for the fulfilment of this reform which the teachers need, etc

Full textFor a long time Mozambique has been a scène of immigration and the diversity of peoples resulting from those encounters reflected itself on a number of social domains. On of the vestiges of this past is the linguistic diversity. Since 90's it has been a revival on interest on the subject of sociolinguistic management. The prevailing sociolinguistic literature attributes rightly and wrongly to the language used in teaching, in this case, Portuguse, the low rate in scholatic achievement. All these elements considered, for us, it seems simplistic to point out Portuguese as the main cause of academic failure. In fact, a whole lot factors contribute to it. Aiming at reversing the academic tendency simpley by changing the language used in the education system, for us, it does not seem enough; We advocate that parallel to purely linguistic adjustements there should be adjustements making it possible for the prometed languages to "alive" socialy speaking

Full textThe convergence of video, computer and telephone technology, the digitalization, the expansion of networks, create new opportunities for education. These new educational methods, however, that spark off social and cultural changes, can only be set up thanks to a precise organization and an adapted environment that rely heavily on human mediation ; the mere development of electronic access to knowledge cannot by itself solve the problem of its design. Although the multimedia environment has benefited from the technological progress in the fields of image and sound, their use in education, despite their communicative power, has often remained marginal. Our hypothesis is that developing distance learning requires a better understanding of the audiovisual logic. Identifying the characteristics of these new learning methods raises the question of the industrialization of education. The economic aspects that are at stake here and the risks that are connected to them, ask for the creation of new concepts and methods; the organization of the cinema industry may be a useful example. Developing distance learning should help giving birth to a cognitive society that would be capable of sharing knowledge equally and giving more sense to an information society; that remains too mercantile and individualistic

Full textOnline communication is an ongoing and an ever growing phenomenon. The population involved is potentially very diverse. Communication and information research has already intensively studied this new context, but less wok has been done on the specifics of intercultural online communication. In this general context, online learning is amplifying in numbers and in approaches. It represent an interesting frame for our research as the systems and activities in the field of education and learning are an object which is particularly rich from a communication studies point of view. Our specific case study is that of an international online diploma caracterised by collaborative interactions of diverse individuals, both nationally and culturally speaking. The present research thus combines the approaches of communication studies in intercultural context, of education studies an of technological mediation with the aim to question the intercultural processes at work in this situation, concerning the learning interactions themselves as well as the community which emerges from them. We propose models to analyse the creation of shared meaning in these situations, as well as, more specifically, a grid to read shared virtual spaces. Last, but not least, our work wants to contribute to the study of intercultural phenomena and contexts of uncertainty, from the point of view of communication as well as education

Full textDistance education and the evolution of ICT, along with a new paradigm of learning such as the constructivist learning, are leading to the development of diverse educational settings and their applications. Our research is on the development of self-directed learning at university by integrating distance learning using ICT. In order to discover factors preventing innovation and self-directed distance learning, we constructed a general model of new innovative education which differs from the traditional one. In fact, the very obstacles of innovation and self-directed learning are related to teaching itself, whether it has institutional or technological contexts. These constitute the basic conditions for developing distance learning with ICT. We have thus found interdependant links among the three different sides of our model. Without bringing a change in the teaching itself on an institutional and political level, innovation cannot be successful as we hope. Thus, teacher's training is necessary to innovate pedagogy at university level. Its objective is to provide teachers with the experience of new teaching methods such as distance learning using ICT and new teaching models such as the constructivist teaching

It means cooperating existing courseware, to generalise to the learning managers and to the group apprenticeship (role playing and manufacturing simulation games). In each case, these situations must consider the human dimension (individual and social) and the technological dimensions (Computer Science, Multimedia, Networks, for modelling different kinds of exchanges and defining characteristics of computer aided design systems. The aim of our work consists in developing cooperative distance computer aided learning architectures that respond to industrial needs. The concern of these systems is to study in a cooperative computer aided learning context, how to select scenarios characteristics, to do role casting, and how to share useful information. This approach is applied to the world broadcast Lafarge-Coppée courseware and to the CIPE game training

Full textThe relations created by the phenomenon of new technologies, shake our benchmarks, we enter a new era, where everything should be thought in this transition. The doctorate is led to evolve, to be thought differently. The creation of the online doctorate opens new working hypotheses. This thesis analyses an unprecedented educational experience (2010-2016), relating an online doctorate and the pedagogical question of the 3rd cycle in education sciences. This thesis testifies of an ongoing innovation and is consistent with the Institutional Analysis logic. To date, no other experience of creating an online doctorate in education sciences in French-speaking countries has been recorded. This object of research is therefore totally new at the doctorate level within French-speaking countries. As such, it is a prospective thesis in the sense that there is not, yet, no research on e-learning at doctorate level in education sciences. This thesis, as an experimentation, is a pioneer. The author is a full member of the ethnomethodological theory. As an observer in an action-research project, she could take on the role of clinical ethnographer in the face of the implementation difficulties encountered. This failed experiment was considered an attempt, a passage, a rough draft from which to learn. How to develop this project and overcome the problems encountered? Which framework develop so that PhD students, teachers get involved or feel involved in building the community of reference? How could the idea of an online doctorate be extended to other fields? In relation to the new reform of universities, could not the theses in validation of prior experience (Validation des acquis de l’expérience) be linked with this kind of online thesis? This thesis will try to answer this. It brings news elements into the field of research and develops a reflection in order to overcome the problems encountered for a pedagogical advance

Full textAfter by the Mozambique's independence the «geography« subject taught in school became in the context «post colonial geography», and bas fixed as main targets two priorities: the build up of the national unit and the country's development. In order to attain those finalities -said revolutionary- they went, as a paradox, looking for references of the subject, in the «metropolitan geography» as follows: separating the world in parts; territories always related to the country (nation); the space often studied through a plan articulated throughout the natural resources theme, and the presentation of the parts of the world, having as starting point the spaces of origin we belong to. On the other hand the school geography has been organized with a dichotomy between «physic geography» and «economic geography», actually it remaining up to date. This type of reading of the world (through geographical demonstration) has been imprinted on the school subject justifying the remaining of certain figures as the Climate graphic and the Age pyramid. Those two graphics are real sources of difficulty as much for the student as for the teachers at once

Full textWe present image retrieval tools for two applications. First we design a system for automatically selecting images in an image database to be used as illustrations of an image process. This problem is related to the tele-teaching of image processing which uses already implemented libraries of algorithms. For this purpose we use the Haar wavelet, which is strongly related to the underlying model of most methods in image processing. Then we are interested •in content-based image retrieval, using pre-attentive similarities. We compute local properties in key points to index images. We present a wavelet-based point detector that extract points where variations occur in the signal, whether they are corner-like or not. The wavelet-based salient point’s detector is compared for image retrieval to other detectors (corners. Contrast based points and random points) in a complete image retrieval system, using several image features (differentia] invariants, texture, color and shape)

Full textSince its independence in 1958, the Republic of Guinea has experienced three regimes of government. During the First Republic, many reforms were introduced to promote the democratisation of education. Following the inauguration of the Second Republic in 1984, the new authorities identified serious distortions in the education sector with a weakness of financial viability and adopted a new policy. The objective of the democratisation of education remained the same, but the number of higher education institutions was drastically reduced The criteria for student acceptance became stronger and the number of students shrank. Current research work has been based on a recognition of the present inability of the government to meet a strongest demand for higher education. The objective is to develop a complementary solution which preserves, and improves the quality of teaching, in the context of a shortage of resources, by the distance learning. Following a initial approach of distance learning, a deeper study of both the social-economic and educational contexts has given a better understanding of pressures for a wider access to university. From this analysis originated the concept of a Cooperative Centre of Higher Education of Distance Learning based on a federation of the former establishments to provide improvements in the reception of students and opportunities better adapted to meet both the needs and the social- economic imperatives of Guinea

Full textOur researches lies within the field of the Computer Environments for the Human Learning and more particularly in the research works led on the help to be brought to a learner in a distance learning via a computer device. In this context, we suggest to plug a system to the existing computer devices of curriculum to help learner in his process of appropriation of the curriculum. Three dimensions appear from the process of appropriation : - The perception of the curriculum (the fact that learner arrests the various elements of the curriculum), - the evaluation (the fact that learner judges the way realized in the curriculum and of what remains to realize), - the regulation (the fact of setting up regulating actions according to the revealing of difficulties). Our works led to the construction of a model of assisting the appropriation based on these three dimensions and in the definition of a set of specifications for the realisation of an environment support of the learner's appropriation. We besides realized a Saafir environment, based on this model, being plugged in curriculum using an explicit model of the curriculum

Full textThis work focuses on the implementation of methods for multimodal recognition of text and speech in audiovisual content. It focuses in particular on lecture records, in which text and speech are extensively used. As the production of multimedia data is massively increasing, the access to these data becomes problematic and requires an efficient content indexing. It is necessary to take into account the heterogeneous nature of this information which is the aim of the paradigm of multimodal analysis. It should however be noted that due to the recent emergence of multimodal analysis, there have been only few attempts to define this field. In addition, only few studies have focused on the interaction between text and speech in multimedia stream and the use of this interaction for their extraction. Our contribution focuses on two points. First, we wish to address the lack of definition by proposing a model of the multimodal analysis. Its goal is to propose a framework for a better description of applications using multimodal analysis, including clearly defining the concepts of modality and multimodality. The second point of our contribution is focused on the multimodal recognition of text and speech. We compare text and speech recognition processes then consider two cases of text-speech collaboration. The first one doesn't involve text recognition. It aims to improve speech recognition by using a thematized language model based on textual resources of the course. Despite the small size of this corpus, we show a significant improvement in recognition results. We are experiencing also a text and speech cross-recognition method based on the complementarity phonetic and written representations of language. We show that this approach improves the text recognition results and could be used to emphasize the specialized vocabulary of the course

Full textThe present thesis, which is being implemented by Universidade Candido Mendes, situated in Rio de Janeiro city, Brazil, has been developed with the purpose of struggling against social exclusion, by offering lato sensu post-graduation courses, presential and at distance, at low costs and with high quality. Therefore, low income graduated students are able to improve their academic profiles, capacitating levels as well as their employability skills. After studying Brazilian educational history, within its various aspects, it was detected a generation of social excluders, due to the absence of options for low income people. Thus, to improve the understanding of questions concerned to this specific context, the studies involving lato sensu post-graduation area were deepened. In order to achieve the proposed objective, it was necessary to implant a model that, economical feasible, should be autosustainable to allow its maintenance and expansion. During the thesis evolution, a project has been developed and implanted using modern administration techniques and, after being thoroughly tested, it is currently presenting the expected results

It also analyses the causes which are behind a difficulty encountered by the pupils when it is a question of explaining the process of digestion. The study is organised in two parts. In the first part we tried to give a progress report on made work concerning with the modeling and the use of the models, the designs of the pupils and the debate in class. In the second part the data are presented which were collected during work, their analysis as well as the results obtained. To understand and discribe the design process of devices and tools for learning and teaching, to problematize the relations of learning, teaching and the relationship to knowledge in the case of open and distance learning, a triple examination has been commited (research in literature, study of three corpus, field study about the design of an e-portfolio. It's allowed to identify some queries. 1) the design process goes on into the use process which leads to ask again initial design ; 2) The representations that have structured the design of the e-portfolio also structured the group of design'actors - according to the hypothesis of Sallaberry ; 3) From Salais and Storper (coordinated action means that the actors have a common framework for action, but outside them likely to be re-built during the action), we have shown that the design of an e-portfolio as aprocess of coordinated action, based on agreements on coordinating the work of design ; 4) Considering artefacts developed in a process of design as objects intermediaries - according to the type of Jeantet and Vink -, we have identified, from the field study about the e-portfolio design process, as symbolic interfaces for structuring representations ans agreements actors on this design process ; 5) Looking after if it was relevant to consider the "report to know instrumented" notion, we have show that the use of an instrumentation in learning's field has an influence on the relationship to knowledge

This work is based on the usage of an experimental system: CETTE, that enables the assessment of the communication quality through measurements and observations on system performances and user satisfaction. The first part of the dissertation analyses the way the new Technologies of Information and Communications can be used to answer the distance training needs of an enterprise, provides a state of art of the domain of Computer Supported Cooperative Work from the point of view actors' communication behaviour and assess operational needs of the computer supported co-operative training. The second part focuses on the design principles of the communication environment CETTE: first, the steps to build up an adaptive architecture in order to support a large variety of interactions specific to accomplishing learning through different pedagogical strategies, next the implementation of this architecture to support course, practical and project based training, situations that imply gradually increasing communication levels. The third part presents the evaluation of the system. After reviewing the assessment methods appropriate to a socio-technique system, follows an analysis and interpretation of the results from a campaign of evaluations on real situation of teletraining system usage; these result reflect both user satisfaction (trainer and students) and system performances

Full textThis thesis aims at analyzing the sense of student's identity in a hardly studied educational context, prison, and, more generally, how this identity is constructed within long distance education and outside of university. This research carried out with inmates by using questionnaires and interviews, offers an analysis of the characteristics of their educational, social, professional and prison trajectory, as of their way of being and considering themselves as a student while being imprisoned. It shows that the ways of entering into education and the affiliation to the students' world differ according to the dynamics that education is involved in: in continuity or rupture with the former educational, social and professional trajectory. The fact to be in prison - "the institution effect" - and in a specific prison - "the establishment effect" induces adaptive strategies influencing the educational experience of "inmate-students" and reveal their attempts to protect, maintain or convert their identities. However, beyond the weight of institutional and contextual constraints, the chosen discipline and the educational structure do also have a strong impact on their ways to study, as it is for the students outside. The fieldwork highlights that the mechanisms to identify with the student status are connected to the educational and prison experience, to the link with education, but especially to the relationships that are built with other individuals around their education. The sense "inmate-students" attribute to student identity therefore depends strongly on the sense attributed by others, inside and especially outside the prison sphere

Full textThe use of the technologies of information and communication in the Tunisian Academic field is the result of a national ambition which has a goal the generalization of computers in universities. Within this general context, that the distance learning project within the high schools of technological studies is born. This interest of the educational technologies legitimates this work of research. In that moment, we asked the question, first of all about the strategies of the Tunisian political actors for the media coverage of the higher Educational field, then for the innovators of distance learning project for the acquisition of their new techno-pedagogical device and its diffusion, and finally we are interested in the effective use of the participants (learners and teachers) of the media-covered teaching means. In addition, our analysis were related to practicing the technical tools outside the universities; we tried to analyze, in a precise way, not only if the use of the machines of communication in the daily life for the social subjects in question participates in the changes of their ways of life, but also if the use of these technical objects inside or outside the field of study or education participates in the abolition of the boundaries between the professional and the private sphere. Definitively, this work of research aims to contribute to the comprehension of the phenomena of the social generalization of the technologies of information and communication that Tunisia; one of the countries of the south is living nowadays

Full textThis research subject lies within the framework of e-learning engineering and more particularly on-line education. The design of these environments requires both the definition of the learning activity in terms of learning content, and that the support activity. The latter follows the learner knowledge construction and acquisition throughout the course. The assistance given within distance learning is an important issue due to the tutor's potential absence and lack of response to learner expectations during a learning session. Our research focuses particularly on the activity accompaniment design. The case study involves lowing at computer support for the distance learning designer so as to describe the learner accompaniment. We aim to specify roles and tutor involvement and also to describe the tools supporting this activity. Using tutoring activity research studies in distance learning environments we propose a tutoring organisation model, called Triton model. The model becomes the basis for 1) reflection upon the accompaniment that he wants a given learning activity and 2) description of the tutoring organisation in an e-learning platform. From the Triton model, we conceive computer environment, EdiScenE, aimed at being used by an on-line education designer to make a scenario for a pedagogical situation, and specify and choose support tools for the tutoring activity. The idea is to propose a formalism to describe a learning design in terms of learning situation description (learning scenario) and the actors interactions (accompaniment scenario). To permit interoperability and reusability of scenarios in platforms, standards are necessary. This is why we choose the Educational Modelling Language IMS Learning Design, which we propose to extend to enrich of the accompaniment scenario. This extension is based on our tutoring organisation model. The goal is improve the accompaniment by sharpening the description in terms of actors' tasks and roles in the context of on-line education. The EdiScenE prototype was tested in the context of several departments. These tests showed the pertinence of the tutoring organisation model that we put forth for describing an accompaniment scenario, integrating a tutoring component description in distance learning environment design

This study deals with one of these programs which aimed at training them into teachers of french as a foreing language and was based on distance teaching, from an institutional point of view as well as from the changes induced in the participants by the contact with a new language and culture

Full textThe evolution of the ICT basically touches the educational field. While fitting in this current, this thesis relates to the design of environments for e-learning. More particularly, our work concerns the implementation of a model for structuring the data and the services whose goal is to used as a basic for the design of hypermedia environments allowing the dynamic generation of pedagogical activities adapted to the profiles and the preferences of the learners. This adaptation is carried out thanks to the use of the various languages revolving around XML technology and thanks to a horizontal system division in three interdependent levels (support, structure and semantics levels). Their respective roles are explained each time by describing the interests of this modelling. Finally, we describe a platform respecting this model which was implemented in order to validate all our proposals

Full textThe research work herein addresses the issue of training teachers of FFL for Mozambique secondary schools. Mozambique, like most countries in Africa is characterized by the presence of multiple languages (20 languages of African origin are listed) shared by different ethnic groups integrate in their daily communication. The objective of this research is to understand the context in which the training of Mozambican teachers unfolds. In this perspective we relied on the current approaches to teacher training and the development of research in the field of teaching foreign languages and French in particular. In this work we analyze the linguistic and cultural origin of future teachers of FFL and its involvement in the educational process and training of French culture. We seek in this case to realize to what extent the multilingualism of students influences the formation in French. Then we analyze the perception of students from their own culture and its involvement in the understanding and representation of the target culture (the one linked to the French language). In other words, is the intercultural game or multiculturalism and multiplicity of languages in contact that interested us in order to understand the manifestation of these two concepts in the classroom where they are students who have different languages and cultures and that all aim to learn and train in a new language and also appropriating culture related to it. To this end, we developed a questionnaire that was distributed in 600 copies in four Mozambican cities where there is training of French teachers. One of the results obtained from the analysis of the 422 questionnaires that have been sent back by the students is that the national languages are often used during training in the classroom and this influences the practice of language learning. Another result indicates that the differences between the culture of the students and the French or Francophone culture is taken as a positive aspect for the students, but in some cases, these differences demonstrate the existence of stereotypes and representations. These differences cause cultural shocks that can fool the students in the look they have on the Other (native French or Francophone)

Full textIn this study, the central question is whether the Action paradigm is favorable to the learning of French in the field of International Relations and Diplomacy. In this context, we test the Action paradigm against the Communicative method through the results achieved by learners after teaching programmes carried through with each approach. Two questionnaires, one for Communicative method and the other for the Action paradigm, were built and submitted to a sample of sixty students, where thirty students attended underwent the Communicative method teaching and paradigm and an equal number for the Action paradigm teaching. The difference between the pre-test and the post-test in terms of marks achieved, differential achievement and mark distribution are conclusive. The Action paradigm yields overall average results of 82. 16% against 76. 72% for of the Communicative method. It thus favors in a statistically significant way the learning of French for specific purposes. Interestingly, its support was greater for aural and spoken tasks than for the written medium. This suggests that the use of different methods is still a commendable approach in the foreign language classroom
