This paper concentrates on the ways in which exoticisms should be translated from Polish to Russian. We focus on the exoticisms used in Cesarz and Podróże z Herodotem by R. Kapuściński. In this text we stress the need to preserve the local cultural coloring of a given exoticism in the process of translation. Moreover, we notice that a unified definition of the term exoticism is necessary, and the lack thereof makes it more difficult to single out exoticisms from among other borrowings. Nelisiwe Xaba’s Fremde Tänze is a remarkable exercise in transplanted exoticism. Its trenchant critique of German imaginings of racialized and eroticized Others unavoidably took on different meanings when Xaba performed it in Chicago in the fall of 2017.

Abstract:
This paper undertakes the unconventional experiment of arguing that the metaphor of anthropophagy is oversimplified and readily deployed, often without critical examination. Through a reading of Alexandra Lucas Coelho’s 2019 non-fiction book, Cinco Voltas na Bahia e um Beijo para Caetano Veloso, I argue that the concept of cultural cannibalism as a progressive and transformative force is shaped by Brazilian self-representations that frequently obscure the complex historical and cultural tensions inherent in it, making it not unlike other forms of exceptionalism. By idealizing Antropofagia as a

The aim of this article is to describe the evolution of the perception of Africa, especially the Sub-Saharan part, and its inhabitants in Poland between 1945 and 1989 on the basis of official documents, literary sources, and memoirs. It is possible to assume that the process of conventionalization of the symbols generated the image of the “Dark Continent” and the substantial modification of the language of cognition – from “Afro-Optimistic” in the early 1960s to “Afro-Pessimistic” in the 1980s. This change was caused by various factors: cold-war geopolitics, anticolonial and “fraternal aid” rh

Abstract:
In recent years, cultural ties between different nations have been expanding. Concerts of Chinese national music are often held in Russian cities. Posters are distributed both through traditional methods and online. The question arises about which linguistic means allow Russian-speaking readers to learn about a new cultural experience and to make the description of Chinese musical tradition understandable and appealing. The subject of this study is the examination of the ways information about musical instruments that are exotic for the Russian culture is conveyed. It investigates the reasons

Abstract:
Musical Exoticism has emerged as a significant concept in musicology. The previous research on it has evolved from a narrow focus on foreign musical elements to a much broader view of full-context-exoticism practices. This paper explores this historical development of the scholarship and its implications for interpreting Western music. By examining the transformation of Music Exoticism, the researcher can gain insights in how it has shaped our understanding of Western musical tradition.
