The aim of the article is to illustrate that export experience of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) has a statistically significant effect on financial performance. This may seem obvious, but similar studies done elsewhere have shown conflicting results. The study’s findings also show conflicting results in the three single-item performance measures used, namely, sales, profits and savings. Data from a sample of 144 exporting SMEs were collected using a structured questionnaire. Export experience is measured by years exporting, and financial performance covers a period of three years. It considers the dynamics of export profitability of oil and petroleum products based on the annual data for 2001—2010, the quarterly data for 2011 and through the first quarter of 2012. The paper also examines how the forthcoming changes in tax legislation aimed at increasing the complexity of refining affect the profitability of oil sector exports. The analysis demonstrates that tax measures alone are not sufficient and might even be counterproductive.

Abstract Residential contractors who focus on becoming a service business can bring in ongoing revenue from existing customers through regularly scheduled maintenance coats. Every contractor should have a long-range system for tracking maintenance due dates, notifying customers and even set-up maintenance contracts to gain pre-approval of future work. By proactively contacting customers for maintenance, residential contractors are providing a valuable service while at the same time laying the groundwork for increased profitability. A contractor’s best customer is his current customer. Acquirin

Abstract Selecting the most appropriate protective coating for the exterior of steel wind towers involves balancing the variables of production and protection to maximize profitability. The coating solution that maximizes production and protection while realizing a profitability that is equal to or greater than owner expectations is an organic zinc-rich epoxy primer and polyaspartic urethane topcoat.

Since the middle of 2008, ocean going freight companies have felt the pinch of the worldwide recession with a dramatic decline in orders for transport. This decline has affected almost every type of vessel including oil tankers, cargo vessels, cruise ships and even luxury yachts. In fact, it is estimated that over 1,000 ships are either in hot or cold storage all over the world, and about half of these are container vessels while 200 are bulkers. Additionally many cargo ships are leaving port at 50% to 70% capacity which creates a heavy impact on the profitability of that trip. Recently low de

Amid the current U.S.-China technological race, the U.S. has imposed export controls to deny China access to strategic technologies. We document that these measures prompted a broad-based decoupling of U.S. and Chinese supply chains. Once their Chinese customers are subject to export controls, U.S. suppliers are more likely to terminate relations with Chinese customers, including those not targeted by export controls. However, we find no evidence of reshoring or friend-shoring. As a result of these disruptions, affected suppliers have negative abnormal stock returns, wiping out $130 billion in

Using a village level panel, we show that profitability increased by 19.7 percent. Also, depending on the estimation method, exports appear as an important determinant of the use of foreign currency debt. The functioning of the banking sector is key for economic growth. Second, we estimate lending markups and deposits markdowns in each country over time. Third, with the estimated markups and markdowns in the different countries we study how they relate with banks' profitability, the cost of credit, credit risk and credit supply. Finally, we explore whether there are differences in markups on lending rates and markdowns on deposit rates between internation

There is a vast international literature exploring the consequences of low interest rates for various banking sectors. In this paper, I explore how this international literature relates to the Australian banking sector, which operates differently to other jurisdictions. In the face of low rates, the profitability of Australian banks has likely been less adversely affected than what the international literature would predict, but the flip side to this is that the pass-through of monetary policy to lending rates may have been more muted. For those firms that had a borrowing relation with a bank before the expansion of broadband, the increase in sales serves as a signal to banks about their profitability, which in turn respond by providing more credit. “Globalization increases poverty” is a common assertion made by critics of globalization. The proliferation of low-wage jobs and higher food prices are some of the arguments brought forward in support of this argument. One of the hallmarks of globalization is the systematic dismantling of barriers to trade. Advocates of trade liberalization – particularly industrialized country agriculture reform – argue that the ensuing rise in world prices for agriculture products will boost rural incomes, thereby reducing poverty in the poorest countries, where the bulk of world poverty resides.
