A Work Project, presented as part of the requirements for the Award of a Masters Degree in Economics from the NOVA – School of Business and Economics<br>It has been argued that real appreciation is at the root of lack of Portuguese competitiveness and consequently current account deficits. This paper investigates the relationship between countries' fiscal balances and current accounts with an emphasis on the role of fiscal rules. Abstract:

This thesis analyzes the effects of external shocks and government policy responses on the current account in Kenya. We attempt to isolate two effects on the current account which arise from the impact of external shocks to the economy. The first one is attributed to a direct response by private agents to the shock. The second arises from the optimal response by the government to counteract the effects of the shock on the economy and depends on the government's objectives. It is hypothesized that these two effects can explain the behavior of the current account in many developing countries.<br

The persistent widening phase of current account balances1 recorded in the last years has sharply reversed during the crisis of 2008. In order to predict their future evolution, it is fairly necessary to identify both structural and cyclical factors and understand in which way they could affect the imbalances. The purpose of this paper is to determine the existing link between these components using a panel of 28 European countries from 1972 and 2014. We found that a major contribution on those balances is provided in large part by structural factors.

Αποτελεί κοινό τόπο η διαπίστωση ότι οι δημόσιες δαπάνες σε μια δημοκρατική κοινωνία, θα πρέπει να βασίζονται σε ένα αποτελεσματικό σύστημα δημοσιονομικής διαχείρισης και ελέγχου. В диссертации рассмотрена проблематика государственного финансового контроля в России, обоснована роль и место внешнего муниципального финансового контроля в системе государственного контроля. В процессе исследования проведён анализ деятельности Счётной палаты г. Екатеринбурга и выявлены основные недостатки работы контрольно-счетных органов. В частности, выявлено, что численность сотрудников Счетной палаты г.Екатеринбурга в два раза ниже нормативных значений, в результате чего проверкой охватывается не более 5% всех доходов и расходов муниципалитета.
