Five commonly used extraction methods - regular centrifugation, EDTA extraction, ultracentrifugation, steaming extraction and regular centrifugation with formaldehyde (RCF) - were selected to study their effectiveness and repeatability in extracting extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) from aerobic/sulfate reducing and nitrifying/denitrifying biofilm samples. Biofilm EPS extraction yields were represented by carbohydrate and protein concentrations; the amount of cell lysis during the extractions was indicated by DNA concentration. The results showed that analyzing wash waters is essential

Introduction: Tooth extraction is still one of the most common dental procedures, routinely performed for a variety of reasons. Tooth extraction forceps and elevators are well-known extraction instruments which have been the standard in tooth extraction procedures for well over a hundred years. Physics forceps are one possible alternative, aiming to perform less traumatic and more predictable extractions. Aim: The aim of study was to compare the effectiveness of physics forceps as an alternative, less traumatic, tool to the conventional extraction forceps. Materials and methods: All patients i

Tooth extraction is one of the oldest and most well-known surgical procedures in dental medicine. It is still routinely performed by general practitioners and dental undergraduates. The Benex extraction system allows for the extraction of teeth in a vertical direction, which avoids most trauma against surrounding alveolar bone and soft tissues. The study included 56 patients who were recruited from the Department of Oral Surgery, Medical University—Plovdiv. The patients were split into two groups of 28 patients—Group I (control group) and Group II (study group). For each group, the success of

DNA extraction is the first step in obtaining high-concentration and high-purity DNA that can use in the subsequent steps. Because the leaf structure is challenging and contains several secondary metabolites that can affect DNA extraction results, DNA extraction on dry leaves of Dipterocarpaceae is considered problematic. This research aims to find a suitable method for extracting DNA from the preserved Dipterocarpaceae leaves. Preserved leaves of Dipterocarpaceae in silica gel will dry up, making them tough to destroy. Perform DNA extraction is generally using CTAB buffers or extraction kits.

Abstract:
Automated built-up infrastructure classification is a global need for planning. However, individual indices have weaknesses, including spectral confusion with bare ground, and computational requirements for deep learning are intensive. We present a computationally lightweight method to classify built-up infrastructure. We use an ensemble of spectral indices and a novel red-band texture layer with global thresholds determined from 12 diverse sites (two seasonally varied images per site). Multiple spectral indexes were evaluated using Sentinel-2 imagery. Our texture metric uses the red band to s

Abstract:
A novel algorithmic framework for the robust detection and classification of machinery threats and other potentially harmful objects intruding onto a pipeline right-of-way (ROW) is designed from three perspectives: visibility improvement, context-based segmentation, and object recognition/classification. In the first part of the framework, an adaptive image enhancement algorithm is utilized to improve the visibility of aerial imagery to aid in threat detection. In this technique, a nonlinear transfer function is developed to enhance the processing of aerial imagery with extremely non-uniform l

Abstract:
Introduction. Tools that leverage machine learning, a subset of artificial intelligence, are becoming increasingly important for conducting evidence synthesis as the volume and complexity of primary literature expands exponentially. In response, we have created a living rapid review and evidence map to understand existing research and identify available tools. Methods. We searched PubMed, Embase, and the ACM Digital Library from January 1, 2021, to April 3, 2024, for comparative studies, and identified older studies using the reference lists of existing evidence synthesis products (ESPs).
