Abstract:
Increasing the reliability and service life of dynamic-pump shaft seals is the most important requirement for their creation. The most common type of seals is still traditional stuffing box seals, which are controlled leakage assemblies that are periodically restored during operation. A radical change in the design of standard stuffing box seals is the transition to face packing seals with a constant pressure against the packing. It is shown that face packing seals can successfully combine the advantages of mechanical face seals and the simplicity and relatively low cost of traditional stuffin

This paper deals with the dynamics of face packing seals, in which one of the sealing rings is made of elastic sealant. The study involved analyzing the axial vibration of the flexible ring for two configurations of its housing in the seal and determining the frequency characteristics and the condition of maintaining face-to-face contact between the sealing rings with considerably different elastic properties subjected to two types of external excitations. The derived analytical relationships were verified using a calculation example for real operating conditions of face packing seals in two p

The results of numerous investigators have shown the importance of inlet swirl on the calculated dynamic stiffness and stability of labyrinth seals. These results have not included any calculation of inlet leakage of swirl as a function of complex disk geometry including the sealing conditions of the given seal. This paper outlines a method of calculating the inlet swirl at the entrance of the labyrinth seal by introducing a radial chamber which when added to the axial flow solution allows the prediction of the gas swirl as it flows radially from the stage tip along the disk face inward to the

The article is devoted to creating a refined computer model of the face packing seal (FPS) based on the solution of the two-way fluid-structure interaction (2-way FSI) problem. An approach to the average gap was proposed based on the micro-space’s working medium leakage between the friction pair’s roughness elements. Three FPS designs were studied, in which the following operating parameters were alternately changed: inlet pressure, load factor, stuffing box parameters, and friction coefficient. Emergence from general anaesthesia after nasal surgery offers several challenges, especially if there is presence of blood and secretion in pharynx. This may provoke bucking, coughing and laryngospasm. Some of these patients may require high concentration of oxygen through the anaesthesia mask, however, this may be difficult due to presence of nasal packs and/or splints (1). Various methods have been advocated to overcome emergence challenges in these patients for example patient involvement by recalling mouth breathing at the time of extubation, avoidance of nasal splints and packing and allo

Small size packet sealing machine is a packaging machine processed by packaging machines found in packaging industry. Product packaging, especially for the food products, is done to extend the life of the product. Unfortunately, it is found that small entrepreneurs face difficulties in purchasing packaging machines due to the relatively high cost of the machines. There are many local products produced by small entrepreneurs especially food products such as chips, pastes and some other open plastic packs in houses which we need to seal. This generally results in damage of the food after some ti

Applicable industrial standards for centrifugal pumps endorse several different sealing options as “best practice.” However, the overall acceptance of best practice techniques seems slow and is linked to the fact that sealing devices account for only a small fraction of the energy consumed by pumps. Yet, regardless of perception, significant energy conservation has been achieved by thoughtful sealing practices, as this paper will show. It will highlight case studies that provide guidance on issues of increasing technical and societal concerns relating to fluid emissions. Special attention will
