The year 1968 marked the turning point from the nonviolent direct action characterized by Martin Luther King, Jr. during the civil rights movement to the militant violence of the Weather Underground Organization (WUO) and other clandestine organizations in America. Disillusionment with the US political system, coupled with the increased police brutality and repression against people of color and anti-war demonstrators, cemented the need for new, militant organizing tactics for many in the New Left. Numerous white, middle-class individuals turned toward militant action and found opportuniti

Magister Public Health - MPH
This study analyses media representations of Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) in two Ugandan daily English newspapers. FGM/C is recognized by the World Health Organization as an extreme form of violation of the rights, health and integrity of women and girls. In Uganda, although the overall prevalence of FGM/C is 0.3 percent of the population, FGM/C remains a harmful practice that constitutes a serious threat to the health of women and girls in communities that practice it. Despite existence of a national legal and policy framework that discourages FGM/

Abstract:
This thesis closely analyses the emotion of fear in Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre. The hypothesis that underpins my study is that fear is fundamental to the shaping and orienting of the text. Specifically, I argue that Jane’s fear of sexual subjugation understood as bodily and sexual possession and subordination and her responses to this fear provide a thematic arc out of which Brontë develops the form and structure of the narrative. My study follows the trajectory of the thematic arc from the beginning of the narrative to the novel’s last pages. As a reading of Jane Eyre through the lens of fe

Abstract:
Using the theory on Representative Bureaucracy, this study considers the minority representative role, which suggests that administrators who are minorities are more inclined to represent minority interests. This study examined whether officers perceive themselves as advocates based on shared demographics and whether they develop attitudes toward reducing youth violence. Considerably more researchers conduct studies in adult prisons than juvenile correctional facilities, which focus on rehabilitation for youth. Therefore, this study further examines youth correctional staff attitudes toward in
