Abstract:
KOPIO is an experiment designed to search for the CP-symmetry-violating reaction K^0 -> pi^0+nu+nubar. Measurement of the branching ratio of this reaction, depending on the accuracy of the measurement, could be the most precise measurement of the CP violation parameters of the Standard Model to date. The K^0 -> pi^0+nu+nubar reaction is exceedingly rare, with an expected branching ratio of (3 ± 2)⋅10^(−11) . The rareness of this reaction means two things: 1) that we need prodigious numbers of kaons, and 2) that a multitude of â improperâ decays will have to be screened out by m

Gamma-ray detectors based on high-density semiconductors, such as cadmium zinc telluride, are being developed for applications in nuclear medicine, astronomy and the monitoring of nuclear weapons material. In contrast to the more commonly used scintillators, which convert gamma-ray energy into light, semiconductors directly convert the energy of a gamma ray into electrical current. This direct conversion often leads to the perception that gamma-ray detection in semiconductors is not an estimation problem. This dissertation presents the contrasting view that gamma-ray detection in semiconductor

Abstract:
While there are existing methods of gamma ray-track reconstruction in specialized detectors such as AGATA, including backtracking and clustering, it is naturally of interest to diversify the portfolio of available tools to provide us viable alternatives. In this study some possibilities found in the field of machine learning were investigated, more specifically within the field of graph neural networks. In this project there was attempt to reconstruct gamma tracks in a germanium solid using data simulated in Geant4. The data consists of photon energies below the pair production limit and so we
