Full textProject performance is considered as an important factor to ensure the success of a project. Companies are interested in the use of efficient practices through efficient methods and tools to design and deliver innovative products and services and decrease the time to market. Project duration, costs, and performance are aspects that normally face changes during the project development. These changes should be treated by using adapted and optimized processes in order to better control, coordinate, manage, and improve projects. Agile methods seem to be efficient for the management of successful projects, however they are mainly use in companies where the business domain is software. Agile methods recently received a growing interest from industry and now are well accepted and deployed in software engineering. This thesis thus tackles the point of transferring the agile methods from software to systems engineering, and issues that are induced. The report first introduces the notion of agility and the birth of the agile movement as well as the principles and values of agile software development. It also presents the main agile methods, as well as other philosophies that share a number of similarities with Agile. Project attributes can be defined, from the literature, to help contextualizing agile projects; we describe and use these project attributes to compare different agile methods and identify the differences between them. Agile and Lean are compared to determine why Lean is used in software development, and how it differs from other agile methods. Finally, we identify several issues to transfer agile methods in the context of systems engineering. We then focus on the understanding of agility in systems engineering. Two meanings of "agile" are found in literature. Considering that agility is focused in the rapid change of convincing, designing, and implementing processes of products and systems in an easy way, we explore the question of introducing agility in systems engineering. A first analysis is led to identify any notion of agility in systems engineering standards. The results of this analysis help us to highlight the issues and challenges of transferring agility into systems engineering. Focusing on the issues, we then present a four steps research methodology. The first step aims to define a contextual model for systems engineering development. The contextual model contains the organizational factors and the project attributes for engineering projects. This contextualization lead us to identify if and which agile method could be used for the management of engineering projects (step two). The step three justifies our selection of the Scrum Framework, between agile methods, for the management of engineering projects. Scrum Practices are defined and evaluated in the project attributes for engineering projects. However, several difficulties are identified and listed while using the Scrum Practices in engineering projects. Finally, the step four proposes some solutions to solve a set of difficulties. This work finally proposes the use of Scrum Practices in two engineering projects. An educational project is analyzed first. This project aims to develop a connected robot. By starting from the contextual model for systems engineering development (cf. section III.4.2.d), we characterize the project to identify what type of project is, then we propose the use of the graphical view of the Scrum Framework to plan the development of the robot. Following the same schema, a second industrial project is analyzed. The second project aims to develop an automotive application for engine management

Full textThis research aims the exploration the relationship between creativity-organisation in the particular context of creative industries. To do so, we tried to answer the following research question: how do communication agencies manage creation projects since creativity is the hearts of these projects? To address the research question, we conducted a multiple case study on eight communications agencies through a qualitative approach. Previous works on creativity in organizations highlight the influence of organizational factors on the creativity of individuals and workgroups. The current research highlights the enactment role of creative actions on established organizations. The results of this research support earlier works showing the influence of factors of the working environment on individual and workgroup. In addition, the results highlight the influence of creativity on the established organization by generating changes in the existing routines and processes. This leads us to believe that more should be done in examining the underlying mechanisms mobilized by creativity leading to introduce organizational changes and the context that enable these mechanisms to happen

Full textSuccessive evaluations of French Military hospitals by the Court of Auditors point out a sub-activity that generates a deficit. The French Military Health Care Service acknowledged these points but considers that military activities (in particular participation in External Operation), may explain, at least partly, the deficit and sub-activity mentioned by the Court of Auditors. This practical question feeds the theoretical reflection conducted in this thesis. A detailed description of external operations shows that they can be considered as soft projects. These projects are characterized by the progressive determination of their goals: that are not completely known when the project starts. The literature questions adequacy of project management standards to soft projects and the following research question emerges: what is the role of stakeholders’ engagement and planning flexibility in soft projects management? The thesis is based on an intervention research. A simulation is built to objectify external operations management in military hospitals. It highlights the impact of external operations on care production and consequently on hospitals ‘deficit. Two analyses are conducted to understand the causes of this impact. First, an analysis of the current planning process of external operations suggests that renewing planning methods can be necessary to offer a flexible planning based on cooperation. Second, the simulation reveals the important role of physicians and nurses’ commitment in managing external operations. This commitment, driven by strong relationships between project stakeholders, positively influences external operations’ outcomes. These observations allow theoretical progress on management tools for soft projects. Two concepts seem particularly suited to soft projects’ constraints: interactive planning developed in companies facing high uncertainties and relational contracting described by law and economics scholars. Interactive planning brings both flexibility and cooperation that appear decisive to build a response to soft goals. Relational contracts help understand how high commitment can bring simultaneously motivation and adaptability, that are both essential to achieve soft goals. To conclude, I suggest structuring projects’ space according to the degree of determination of projects’ goals and the degree of stakeholders’ engagement in the project. These dimensions allow defining areas where project management standards will be applicable and those where they might need to be adapted to soft projects. The diversity of soft projects (public sector, international development, organizational change) calls for such a structure that can facilitate the spread of specific management tools

Full textThe observation of the difficulties encountered by students in understanding the logic of risk monitoring in a project was at the origin of this thesis. Interviews conducted within banks of the Centre region revealed differences in the levels of maturity in project management and in the appropriation phases. The appropriation of tools by those instrumental in organisation is therefore not self-evident. The aim of this thesis was to consider the psycho-cognitive and social approach to the usage of the tools. Usage of a tool was measured by the intensity of the frequency of its use. A questionnaire was sent out to project managers, members of different services and/or the steering committee within the Crédit Agricole bank. The theorisation of management tools, the dissonance theory and the technology acceptance theory were applied to study the relationship between the tool and its user. The study made it possible to conclude that those who use the tools the most frequently do not feel more obliged to use them than those who use them less often. The former also consider the tools to be easier and more suitable than the less frequent users, but they do not privilege certain types of tool. The originality of the thesis was to introduce the concept of social representation. Hypotheses based on the theory of creation of knowledge, cultural theories and social representation theories are put forward to explain the different usage of the tools. The conclusion was that professional culture has a marked effect on the use of risk management tools in projects

Full textThat it is of architecture, educational, social or data processing, we can define the project as an intention, a desire shared by a whole of individuals. The project is thus a social construction of reality, a meeting between the intentions of actors and the data of the world. In this conception, the project must then tend towards a mutual assent of the various actors for the result and the success of this collective construction. Nevertheless, this "constructivist" approach of the projects who integrates the concept of shared intention, does not seem an obviousness since we plunge ourselves empirically in the heart of the technological projects. Each actor of the situation, having his own representation of the project and his own stakes, the work of design and integration of the future tool is not thus any more the result of a collective production but a genuine strategic tool with the service of the intentions of each one

Six variables – decisive actions for the advancement of the project marketing process - are put forward as well as internal and external resources, to be mobilized according to the four phases of project marketing : pre-project marketing , marketing at the start of the project, ongoing project marketing , and marketing before the next project. A process model of project marketing is proposed, which details the surrounding meaning and value as well as inciting its operational application. This qualitative research is more particularly based on the analysis of three cases and is characterized by a progressive and iterative construction, with constant backward and forward motions between empirical and theoretical

Full textFor too long, the practical conception of development projects -inherent in external financial institutions and their research companies- has often escaped all consideration on the real contribution which this project had to make to the residential community of develo- ping countries (dc). The sophistication of the theoretics has only served principally to justify some introverted anti-development choices. To distinguish productive projects from unproductive projects, financial (ex-ante evaluation) appraisal from economic appraisal, reference prices from market prices. . . And no matter what point of view we would like to underline in the course of this study, it is, in the long run, the fi- nancial balance of power which allows arbitration. Considering these numerous forces which, it will be appropriate to integrate into the relevant environment of the project, how can the appraisal of direct profitability projects take place within the manage- ment of the development of the european community ? what is underlying meaning of the notions of efficiency, viability, financial and economic profitability? if this makes a positive contribution to the improvement of preparation of projects, do we have to wait for a showing down of the rate of setback of projects in the thiro world countries?

However, the different actors have not defined this word and neither a protocol process and so many urban strategies are shoved because of the ignorance of urban economics. After having shown an analyst of the development of the word and the evolution of ways of applying urban design strategies, the thesis proposes to contribute to organising the urban development strategy process, on one hand, and on the urban design aspect, on the other hand. This double approach wants to considere both objective interests and protagonists games, especially the coproducers of the projects to set the wheels in motion

Full textGenerally large-scale industrial projectsheavily rely on development and involve a degree of technical risk. Besides, each project calls for production and organisation methods which ought to be clearly defined. The techniques used in the planning of projects are usually derived from the pert or metra potentiel method methods. However, the latter fail to integrate a number of situations which are frequent in the context of development projects. The present thesis aims at reviewing a set of methods, the most important of which is the "graphical evaluation and review technique". They allow to take into account real-life situations by resorting to disjunctive logics. This research also assesses the contribution of such methods an demonstrates how they can be integrated into decision-making and project management planning. In the process, it identifies a number of criteria on which to base project abandonment

Full textThis document deals with the multi-skill project scheduling problem: a project has to be scheduled in order to minimize the makespan. The resources may master several skills among all those needed by activities. First of all, we introduce the problem by a formal definition, and a linear program. Then, according to differences with other classical project scheduling problems, we develop specific methods. Several lower bounds are introduced. Then, we define some heuristic methods based on: serial schedule scheme or parallel schedule scheme, which use a priority list. Those methods are followed by a linear programming formulation, and some meta-heuristic method: a tabu search and two genetic algorithms. Finally, we introduce a branch-and-bound procedure to build optimal solutions. The branching scheme is based on time-windows of activities. So, each time a leaf node is reached, a fixed job scheduling problem with multiple skills has to be solved. We use some methods to optimally solve this problem, which are detailed in this document

We generalize the multi resource and multi mode RCPSP with resource flexibility by additionally including calendars, skill constraints, transfers resources and specifics constraints. A mathematical formulation, two heuristics and a metaheuristic are proposed to solve this strongly NP hard problem, and they are compared with some methods of the literature

Full textIn order to improve Project Risk Management and to reinforce its effectiveness, the managers of the project should reuse the experiences and the good practices acquired in previous projects. The Experience Management constitutes an important source of knowledge to reduce the levels of uncertainty and thus the risks in the projects. The methodologies for Experience Management have thus become truly recognized in many companies. However, these companies were often satisfied to collect information at the end of the project by thinking that would be enough to generate knowledge necessary to improve their performance. Unfortunately, the capitalization of these experiments is traditionally a static stage at the close of the project, which simply allows the capture of some events memorized by the implied experts. Moreover, capitalized information is difficult to reuse directly in a new-risk analysis. Our efforts focused on developing a methodology to improve the Risk Management Process in Projects using an Experience Management System and thus contribute to the logic of continuous improvement. The proposed approach is based on a knowledge-based system that enables the development of key competencies such as problem solving, collective decision-making, reflection, learning and prospective capacity. The proposed model is based on the study of the contribution of three central fields: Projects Management, Risks Management and the Experience Management. The singularity of our work lies in the fact of integrating a mechanism back from experiment explicitly uninterrupted in order to improve the performance of the processes of risk management in the projects. We propose to implement a knowledge-based modeling approach based on Experience management. We define a model to characterize projects, risks and experiences for the identification, capitalization and exploitation of knowledge. The modeling of these elements also makes it possible to have a structuring facilitating a faster reading of the project or its processes. Therefore, we have developed a model which allows us to represent the key elements used during the risk management process and thus to facilitate the capitalization of the experiments and the research of previous similar experiences. That then makes it possible to standardize and improve the risk management approach. From the point of view of the search for previous experiences, we define: On the one hand, an algorithm of research of similar experiments founded on the comparisons between directed labeled graphs. That consists of the establishment of a correspondence between two graphs (graph 1 being context of the current project and graph 2 context of the last project recorded in the form of experiment) by a pairwise factorization of the affinity matrix, which decouples the structure of nodes and similar arcs (Zhou and Of Torre, 2012). On the other hand, an algorithm to find the optimal correspondence between these graphs, so that the sum of the compatibility of the nodes and the arcs is maximized. With this intention, we used a genetic algorithm. Lastly, we propose an approach of exploitation of similar last experiences. In this manner, we can obtain a set of risks associated with these similar objects in order to feed the assistance system with the decision in the management of the project

Full textThe evolution of health organizations and their adaptation to environmental turbulence are constant challenges for professionals in the health field. On the basis of a case study of the unification of the three sectors of psychiatry in Switzerland (Canton of Vaud), the purpose of this work to make a critical analysis of the design and implementation of a complex project and discusses the limitations of the integration of the chosen model. In the field of psychiatric institutions, the decision-makers must possess the ability to establish the necessary conditions for the development of a complex project and is measured in terms of the capacity of all employees to enter into an efficient change processes in relation to the relevant field: Mental Health. This efficiency is measured not only in terms of financial cost, but must also consider the understanding and acceptation of the changes and upheavals to come, by the employees concerned. Using an integrated model (Integration concept Prof. PY Contandriopoulos) provides a detailed analysis and allows a project management method to obtain and sustain lasting consistency common to the three sectors of psychiatry within a single department of a university. Adaptation of targeted projects at different dimensions of integration gives meaning to collective action, establishes a strong interdependence and strengthens ties between actors. With a view to institutional compliance necessarily involving and reconsidering its relationships with others, self, and environment. The path forward from complex project management using interpersonal and environmental relations has led to a new awakening of consciousness in time and space and a new management model

Full textIn large projects measuring progress is always difficult due to the complexities involved, because the realization is shared among departments of a firm or even between firms disseminated all over the world. Project management and operations research literature is reviewed for discovering various techniques applicable. Widely used tools for progress measurement and forecasting, such as Earned Value Analysis, Progress Plot, Milestone and Resource slip charts, concurrent engineering, can be employed. This thesis is based on a problem of pharmaceutical industry where the effectiveness of a certain medical treatment is examined on patients in a number of countries. The number of variables involved increase the complexity of this problem. The main objective is to analyze the effectiveness of a solution in different situations during the project such that a better project duration and a lower cost can be achieved. Our findings suggest that reallocation of patients among countries produces better results in terms of progress

Firstly, this research work provided a simplified understanding of the nature of project risk and tools which can be used to identify and analyse the potential sources of risk. It also provides check-lists and analysis grids established in order to detect rapidly the possible causes of a project failures. Secondly, it consisted to present different ways to evaluate and to rank the potential risks inherent to a project. Finally, this research work aimed to describe techniques which can lead to significant reduction of the project risks, to present the main theoretical risk management methods usable and to analyse, using a specific reading grid, some original approaches developed over the last few years, in large firms, in order to manage the risks of their projects

Full textThe aim of our study is to propose a quantitative and formalized method for the management of the impact of change on business processes. The analyze is consecrated to Business Process Reengineering projects possibly with an IT system implementation. Indeed, the impact of change is considered as one of the most important risk in the literature of this kind of projects. However, only few authors are beginning to propose formalized methods intended to manage change in these projects. Looking at the research done on risk management in reengineering projects, we can find that there is a lack of quantitative methodologies to manage risk related to business change at the appropriate level. We've taken as starting point the formulation of the problem in which risk is defined as decrease of process performance. We also suppose that causes of this risk are to search in the deepness of the gap between "as-is" and "to-be" processes. We've decide to realize the study at process level. Operational variation metrics in delay, cost and quality are defined as quantification of the risk and represent response variables. Structural change and variation metrics are predictive variables. A data collection of restructured processes is build. Every record of the data collection takes three values of response variables and seventeen values of predictive variables. A Bayesian model is build by structure learning using this data collection. The resulting model is for use to validate "to-be" models proposed for a processes in a reengineering project

Full textThe main objective of this thesis is to facilitate the ergonomist's participation in industrial projects. So, a new model for the ergonomic practice in design process is proposed. To do that, the literature related to design process and activities is discussed and an ergonomic intervention in an invustrial project is analysed. First, a traditional view of design process, that influences many practitioners, is described as a linear sequence of stages and as a technical process requiring the application of engineering techniques. The limitations of this view need a broader description of the design process. The design process is then described as a social process, where the collective aspects and the meetings ("renvez-vous) are taken into account. In this new view of the design process, the need to define, by some especial participants - "les acteurs de la maitrise d'ouvrage" -, the broad objectives of the project are argued. Next, the ergonomist's action in the design process is described as a "reflective and collective practice". To play a more effective role and to introduce the "point de vue du travail", ergonomists must transform some meetings into situations of management ("situations de gestion") and, sometimes, they must create new situations of management. As well, to be more effective the ergonomist's intervention depends on especial team meetings, called "situations de deliberation", where ergonomists reflect upon the intervention and decide its new course. Finally, a detailed analysis of an intervention in an industrial project is done to demonstrate this thesis. This analysis is based upon some "case histories" of the intervention elaborated after a systematic collection of data (project reports any documents, notes from project meetings any ergonomic team meetings) and after the confrontation of these data with some project actors

Full textProject financing is strongly developing. We must not forget however all risks connected to this financing technique. A common denominator to those financial, technical or legal risks does exist, the mastering of which means success. Regarding the financial risk, beyond the backing securities, the achievement of a joint financing combining both private and public funds considerably limit risks. As for technical risks, the success of the project requires a global approach, a synergetic reflection over a project method from builders, architects and managers bringing together their respective skills whit the support of specialized technicians. The legal risk is the most complicated and difficult to cope with because of nature of the operation itself : a legal – financial set-up xith the help of techniques and of many mechanisms mutually dependent. A project company must be created in order to limit the risk by concluding partnership agreements and creating special “corporate” vehicles

Full textIn this thesis a review of the literature and a state of the art in project management and project risk management has been presented. Some instruments for risk identification, risk analysis and risl management have been studied. A method of project risk management has been proposed. The objectif of this method called marep "methode d'analyse des risques et de leurs effets dans les projets" consists in integrating risk management in project management, structuring this risk management and making it flexible. It is essentially an operational instrument. This method is structured in three phases. The first one considers risk identification. This identification is based on project elements and on a check-list given by marep. The second one deals with organizational and technical risk analysis. Some instruments for risk hierarchisation are proposed as a fonction of the nature of the information available (qualitative or quantitative information). In the third one the control of risk using some preventive and curative measures is considered. Organizational changes related to modern projects are also discussed. Risks and opportunities related to these changes are analysed. Finally, some recommendations concerning the project risk management are proposed

Full textThe environment of the innovative firm has two dimensions. It ismade up of the technical system and the socio-economic system. R&d projects pass form the former to the latter dimension via az transitory phase which comprises a chaotic part and a dialectic part. In this way the marketing of an r&d project takes three forms. The firts one is technological marketing which consists of opening the firm out onto the technical system. The second one includes action necessary for gettign through the transitory phase. It is the marketing form through which the project integrates and takes into account its environment where offering draws closer to market needs. The third more classical form prepares the commercial launch of the product. This marketing process must be adapted to the projects depending on whether they are either defended by the researchers of supported by the firm on the one hand, and whether they are managed in either a niche market or a volume market approach on the other

Full textThis research aims to identify and to analyse the foundations and the impact of management by projects in the organizations. An action research was led in the french post-mail conducing to propound a conceptual analysis and to build some tools in order to implement efficiently management by projects. The use of grounded theory and "ago-antagonist abalysis" permitted to identidy the running dynamics and to suggest a definition of management by projects. Its main characteristics were delimited and generated a three-level analysis : instrumental, political and cognitive levels. This in-depth investigation of management by projects seems to be more useful with multi-referential process. Some fields for further investigation were also suggested
