Abstract:
Human activity has greatly affected the natural environment. The production and consumption of materials and products have contributed to the destruction and degradation of ecosystems worldwide. Evidence suggests that we increasingly endanger the ability of the environment to support our way of life. Efficient use of materials (e.g. waste prevention) and circulation of materials (e.g. recycling) are widely acknowledged means to reduce the impacts of production and consumption. However, for many reasons, the efficient and circular use of materials is not sufficient to meet targets for environme

This report describes improvements and changes made to a simple model of the global carbon cycle originally developed by Bice (2007). The model simulation period is from 1850 to 2000, and the steady state for atmospheric CO2 concentration changed from 280ppm in the original model to 285ppm in the improved model. The original model has 5 reservoirs: atmosphere, surface ocean, deep ocean, land biota and soil. An additional ‘earth’ reservoir is added to the improved model. These reservoirs have various fluxes between them, and all are assumed to have equally distributed carbon, analogous to ‘well

This master thesis seeks to investigate how an Argentinean institute support its members to learn Global Value Chains and Life Cycle Assessment. Two important methodologies that can be used as a basis to form sustainable strategies based on analyses of products or services. A Global Value Chains and Life Cycle Assessment course is held to the institute’s members who wishes to learn them. This case study has analysed the course design, the outcome and the institute’s organizational structure for professional development based on a 15-factor framework and relevant learning theories.
