Romania entered World War I at a difficult moment for the Central Powers. The offensive against Verdun had been an extraordinarily bloody stalemate, one that sapped the officer corps' confidence in the leadership of General Erich von Falkenhayn. In June, Russia launched its great Brusilov offensive, pushing Austria-Hungary to the verge of capitulation. Soon thereafter, the British offensive against the Somme, itself a blood-soaked disaster, nonetheless revealed an astounding Entente advantage in war material. The first part of 1916 had not been kind to the armies of the Dual Alliance.

For the first time, the norms of the HTC and productivity, and their deviations were calculated.

Abstract:

On the morning of July 5, Meade’s signal stations were reporting that it appeared that Lee’s army had evacuated the defense line along Oak and Seminary Ridges and was heading west toward Fairfield and Cashtown. Meade still had to be sure the enemy was not heading to the South Mountain range in order to lure him into an attack there. He directed General Sedgwick and the Sixth Corps to pursue the enemy to Fairfield as a reconnaissance in force and frequently report the enemy’s movements. He also appealed to the Quartermaster General and his staff for horses, grain, hay, shoes, stockings, horseshoes, nails, rations, and ammunition, all of which were desperately needed. Half of the army was shoeless, few of the men had been given anything to eat, and, by July 10 more than 14,000 horses would be lost, some dying, some becoming lame, others broken down.

Abstract:
The US Army Corps of Engineers, Seattle District, nourishes gravel downstream of Howard Hanson Dam (HHD) on the Green River in Washington State. The study team developed numerical models to support the ongoing salmonid habitat improvement mission downstream of HHD. Recent advancements in computing and numerical modeling software make long-term simulations in steep, gravel, cobble, and boulder river environments cost effective. The team calibrated mobile-bed, sediment-transport models for the pre-dam and post-dam periods. The modeling explored geomorphic responses to flow and sediment regime ch

Abstract:
Sedimentation can occur near a dredge operation in pulses over days, and potentially impact coral reefs occurring in close proximity. To improve the ability to predict the effects of dredging on corals, the effects of sedimentation in two 18-day experiments were studied for three common coral species representing different morphologies. In a laboratory setting, coral fragments were exposed to four sedimentation concentrations dosed every four days ranging from 0 to 60 mg cm-2. Separate experiments were performed in series, once with fine grain sediment and repeated with a coarse grain sediment

Abstract:
Over 220 linear miles of geophysical data, including sidescan sonar and chirp sub-bottom profiles, were collected in 2016 and 2017 by the US Army Corps of Engineers and the US Fish and Wildlife Service in the upper Niagara River. In addition, 36 sediment grab samples were collected to groundtruth the geophysical data. These data were used to map the spatial distribution of fine-grained sediment, including volume data in certain locations, along the shallow shorelines of the upper Niagara River. Overall, the most extensive deposits were spatially associated with either small tributaries or with
