Abstract:
True design with grammars lies in the creation of the grammar rules, not in the application of the rules to generate design alternatives. Existing grammars can be modified to describe new languages of designs [1–4]. Studying an epicyclic gear train graph grammar leads to purposeful relaxation of grammar rules and subsequent discovery of new designs. A revised new EGT grammar is presented, which is designed to generate a wider selection of valid EGTs.

The Japanese lexicon is typically classified into at least three etymological strata: native, Sino-Japanese and foreign words. In Tokyo Japanese, nouns from different strata are known to have different phonotactic as well as tonotactic properties. Should one analyze Tokyo Japanese nouns using a non-clustering grammar that generates all nouns using the same phonological grammar, or should one analyze them using a clustering grammar that generates nouns from different strata using different grammars? AbstractThe shape grammar formalism has been discussed theoretically extensively. Recently there has been increased activity in implementing shape grammar interpreters, yet there is a lack of implementations that support parametric rules and emergence. Here the structure of a general parametric shape grammar interpreter is discussed in detail. The interpreter is based on graph grammars. It supports emergence, parametric rules, and numerous types of geometric objects. The shape grammar engine, an agent-based rule selection system and several implementations based on the engine are discussed.

Selection procedures, on the other hand, are important in that they may have a bearing on development in language acquisition. We raise the possibility that differences in fir

The abstract evolutionary principles, however, are akin in cognitive and biological evolution. First, I will discuss the question whether Haider’s conception of Darwinian selection covers all aspects of grammar change. A contextual grammar is a language generating mechanism inspired by generating sentences in natural languages. An existing string can be extended to a new string of the language by adjoining a context before and behind the string or by inserting it into the string around some subword. The first mode is called external derivation whereas the second mode is called internal derivation. If conditions are given, around which words which contexts can be adjoined, we speak about contextual grammars with selection.
