Abstract:
There are many beneficial medical device ideas based on clinical needs and laboratory research, but medical device development is an expensive, time-consuming and complex challenge. Research and quality management, which are both needed to develop a medical device, are two distinct fields, initiated by a researcher or a clinician having a concept for a medical device, and it is often challenging to find and achieve the proper steps to create a licensed product. Thus, in this paper, we demonstrate the required mindset and main steps of the medical device development procedure through an existin

Hemorrhage is a leading cause of trauma death, particularly in prehospital environments when evacuation is delayed. Obtaining central vascular access to a deep artery or vein is important for administration of emergency drugs and analgesics, and rapid replacement of blood volume, as well as invasive sensing and emerging life-saving interventions. However, central access is normally performed by highly experienced critical care physicians in a hospital setting. We developed a handheld AI-enabled interventional device, AI-GUIDE (Artificial Intelligence Guided Ultrasound Interventional Device), c

The internal fixation of proximal femoral (hip) fractures is the most frequently performed orthopaedic surgery procedure. When using a sliding compression hip screw, a commonly used fixation device, accurate positioning of the device within the femoral neck-head is achieved by initially drilling a pilot hole. A cannulated component of the hip screw is then inserted over the guide wire (surgical drill bit), which is used to drill the pilot hole. However, in practice, this fluoroscopically controlled drilling process is severely complicated by a depth perception problem and, as such, a surgeon c

The paper presents the results of an experimental study of a vertical wind turbine type Darrieus with frontal cylindrical guide vane unit. The main goal of the research is to analyze the influence of the geometry of a classical cylindrical guide vane unit on the active and passive zone of the wind turbine. The aerodynamic scheme is synthesized by a classic runner and frontal cylindrical guide vanes. Three different guiding devices of a model vertical wind turbine with frontally located guide vanes have been studied. Their influence on the characteristics of the turbine has been examined. The r

Abstract The number of software products in the field of health and medicine increases excessively. Self-tracking, fitness, health advice, dose calculation, and analysis of physiological data - apps are popular and commonly used. Some of the products are affected by the medical device regulation, consciously or unconsciously. For young entrepreneurs, it is difficult to recognize and understand the distinction between software as medical product and health software products. The friction and wear behavior of alumina and titania textile guides in contact with high speed, dry nylon filaments has been studied using a novel, on-line, friction measuring device. The titania guides were worn very quickly to produce smooth grooves, which resulted in a large increase in fiber-guide friction. The alumina guides showed no appreciable wear during the short 1 hour tests, but a large amount of polymer deposit was produced. The morphology of the deposit was determined by the alumina guide topography. The smoother guides were smeared with polymer over the contact region. This adh
