Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to determine whether the career development process was the same for hearing-impaired and normally-hearing adolescents. Subjects included 71 deaf and 318 nonhandicapped adolescents and their parents. A literature-based causal model of career maturity (Model 1) was developed that was designed to explain career maturity in terms of background variables, family characteristics, and individual characteristics. The inclusion of these variables was based on family systems theory, social learning theory, and the empirical literature on the career maturity of nonhandicapp

Abstract:
Hearing impairment is a major impairment that disrupts one of the most important functions and needs of the human being, namely, to communicate. Due to elusive understanding of the phenomenon, hearing impairment is seen as one of the serious anomalies, next to visual impairment. Hearing loss has adverse effects on speech, language, cognitive and psychosocial development, and subsequently affects educational and vocational attainment. There is also an effect of hearing loss on behavioural and social functions, as well as general quality of life. The effects of hearing loss are different

Purpose: The tendency to prioritize negative or threatening social information, a cognitive process known as cognitive bias, has been linked to the development of social anxiety. Given the increased risk for social anxiety among adolescents who stutter (aWS), this project extended the research on cognitive bias to aWS to inform our understanding of the psychosocial factors associated with stuttering in adolescence – the period of development when social anxiety typically emerges. The purpose of this two-part study was to examine group and individual differences in two forms of cognitive bias a
