The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) projected that climate change would adversely affect 27 million people in Mumbai (6th assessment report). Understanding the intricate relationship between the built environment and its influence on microclimates and thermal comfort was imperative for creating climate-sensitive designs. This paper investigated the role of urban

Abstract:
This study conducted an evaluation of high-mast roadway lighting, which included a review of Illinois Department of Transportation’s high-mast lighting specification and a field experiment. The lighting specification was reviewed for potential cost-saving measures. Recommended changes included the use of an external drive mechanism, a design-by-application mounting ring, and using the industry standard handhole design. The field experiment consisted of two human factors evaluations. In one evaluation, participants were driven along I-57 through five interchanges with various lighting designs a

Abstract:
The summative external evaluation report described the program's impact on faculty and students participating in recitation sessions and active teaching professional development sessions over two years. Student persistence and retention in engineering courses continue to be a challenge in undergraduate education, especially for students underrepresented in engineering disciplines. The program's goal was to use peer-facilitated instruction in core engineering courses known to have high attrition rates to retain underrepresented students, especially women, in engineering to diversify and broaden

Abstract:
Planning for sustainable neighborhoods is a high priority for many cities. It is therefore important to take the right decisions during the planning phase to ensure that important aspects are considered. One of these important aspects is to consider the harvesting of solar energy in the best possible way. It is however difficult to define the best ways to exploit the incoming solar energy. Solar energy can be used by means of active solar energy production, passively by means of daylighting buildings or outside buildings on the ground for direct solar access or thermal comfort.
