Heavy-duty trucks are in idle operation during long periods of time, providing the vehicles with electricity via the alternator at standstill. Idling trucks contribute to large amounts of emissions and high fuel consumption as a result of the low efficiency from fuel to electricity. Auxiliary power units, which operate independently of the main engine, are promising alternatives for supplying trucks with electricity. Fuel cell-based auxiliary power units could offer high efficiencies and low noise. The hydrogen required for the fuel cell could be generated in an onboard fuel reformer using the

The motivation for applying energy storage in this context is that wind power generation is intermittent and generally difficult to predict, and that good wind energy resources are often found in areas with limited grid capacity. Moreover, energy storage in the form of hydrogen makes it possible to provide clean fuel for transportation. Among today’s energy storage developments, hydrogen based storage

In this work, three different operating modes (adiabatic, isothermal, Partially-insulated) of a continuous hydrogen generation system using the NaBH4 hydrolysis reaction are explored. Partially-insulated operation is recommended for this system since it has a higher outlet temperature and lower temperature distribution in reactor, which both mitigate the NaBO2 precipitation problem so that a larger energy densit

The auto-feeding system is designed in accordance with the quantity of NaBH4 solution which is the demand of the chemical hydrogen generator, and we test the hydrogen product error of the complete system several times. Moreover, we simulate the energy density and driving distance for the marketable PEMFC electric vehicle using auto-feeding system by Matlab/SimpowerSystemTM. For rising

It proves that the hydrogen generation rate from Al/water system is higher when Al(OH)3 contains residual NaOH. Through the change of pH value, ratio of Al(OH)3 to Al/water, and consecutive addition of Al powders to the Al/water system, we have higher hydrogen generation rate when OH- concentration is higher. The design process starts with choosing the type of flow field and the material of electrode. First, verify the flow field by CFD software-FLUENT the grid type flow field forms a uniform flow field; Second, according to electrochemistry, a non-corrosive electrode has to be used in the electrolysis process. Titanium is a good electrode material that can stand in acid enviroment and anti-oxidation. So, the titanium plate with grid type flow field has been cho
