The article examines the gnoseological nature of investigation and identification work. The authors perform the retrospective analysis of research in this sphere — from the sources of the criminalistic theory of investigation (1920s) to the research carried out by contemporary specialists in operative investigation theory, and use the results of this analysis to outline a complex of problems connected with the search for different categories of missing persons, the identification of persons and unidentified bodies, all studied from the standpoint of coordinating legal norms that regulate the o

Where possible, automation has been a common response of humankind to many activities that have to be repeated numerous times. The routine identification of specimens of previously described species has many of the characteristics of other activities that have been automated, and poses a major constraint on studies in many areas of both pure and applied biology. In this paper, we consider some of the reasons why automated species identification has not become widely employed, and whether it is a realistic option, addressing the notions that it is too difficult, too threatening, too different o

Abstract:
CAG/CTG repeat instability is associated with at least 14 neurological disorders, including Huntington’s disease and Myotonic dystrophy type 1. In vitro and in vivo studies have showed that CAG/CTG repeats form a stable hairpin that is believed to be the intermediate for repeat expansion and contraction. Addition of extra DNA is essential for repeat expansion, so DNA synthesis is one of the keys for repeat expansion. In vivo studies reveal that 3’ CTG slippage with subsequent hairpin formation (henceforth called the 3’ CTG slippage hairpin) occurs during DNA synthesis. It is proposed that hair

Recently, phosphatidylserine (PtdSer) receptors, primarily known for their involvement in the clearance of dying cells, were shown to mediate entry of enveloped viruses including filoviruses.
