In refuting the concepts of divine justice and natural law, he demystifies justice and hopes to humanize law. He does not criticize the force of the law, but he condemns violence in the name of justice, and illustrates that justice as an ideal is problematic because impartial judgment is all but impossible to attain. Courts must not imagine that they operate in the image of God as purveyor of an absolute justice. Rather the authority of the law derives from

Yet despite their self-image as an exceptionally talented elite, not all judges excel at the business of judging. The second position, advocated by Nahmanides, holds that non-Jews establish and maintain their own courts separate from Jewish courts, and judge based on the general principles of Noahide law. In the following text, I focus on the issue of assessing judicial impartiality in cases where judges provide comments to the media on non-final decisions in pending cases. Courts, motivated by a concern not to undermine the image of the judiciary in the eyes of the public, apply relatively strict standards to media-open judges in such cases. On the grounds of a critical analysis of selected relevant case law, I show why it is necessary to distinguish and consider more leniently situations where a judge comments only on his or her own decision, even if subsequently overturned by a higher instan

Teleoperated Driving (ToD) is a widely acknowledged concept applied to handle edge-case situations in automated vehicles. In ToD, a human operator judges and resolves these situations based on video streams. Due to varying network coverage, the compression level of these video streams and therefore the resulting image quality (IQ) are adjusted dynamically. In the presented work, the effect of IQ on task performance is investigated. We hypothesize that IQ impacts the operator’s reaction time to dynamic obstacles, and therefore influences safety. We conducted a user study to test this hypothesis

Manufacturing trends are gradually changing from mass production and mass consumption to “production of diverse products in small quantities”. For this reason, design is recognized as an important element with which a customer judges value. In order to employ the designer’s sensitivity and realize high quality designs, CAD systems which can carry out analysis evaluation of design properties quantitatively, and improve design based on the results is required. In the initial stage of designing, designers embody image form by repeating a sketch. In this process, if the form image of a sketch curv

ABSTRACT Accurate identification and extraction of fractures in core scanning electron microscope (SEM) images are particularly important for understanding and evaluating fractures in rocks. At present, most of the fracture extraction methods do not take into account the characteristics of fractures extension trend and edge change, resulting in many noise points and breakpoints in the extracted fractures. In view of the above problems, this paper proposes a new method of core SEM image fracture extraction based on double-side inspection and morphological completion. Double-side inspection frac

This is a report on the development of a psychophysical scale for measuring the image quality of photographic and video images. We found subjects can consistently use the method of direct magnitude estimation to judge the quality of images degraded by noise. An example of how this scale is used to assess the image quality produced by various optical elements will be presented.
