This study examines adolescent perceptions of death with a sample of 220 high school students. Variables examined were personifications of death, death anxiety, locus of control, self-esteem, and level of risk. Chi-square, regression analysis, and analysis of variance were used to analyze the data. High risk behaviors were negatively correlated with death anxiety. Males had higher risk scores and lower death anxiety scores than females. Females revealed higher death anxiety scores than males and lower self-esteem scores. Human beings, aware of their finitude, have developed diverse strategies to resist the loss that death entails. One such strategy is the creation of images, a skill that allows for the restoration of a lost place in social space. However, the experience of image, and in particular that of the mortuary image, following Hans Belting's medial studies, invites us to recognize an intrinsic relationship between death and image due to the life-giving nature of the latter, suggesting more than a supplementary aspect in the face of death.

Abstract:
This study investigates the impact of social media reels and short videos, particularly on platforms like TikTok and Instagram, on the self-esteem and social behavior of Bangladeshi teenagers. Utilizing a qualitative case study design, we conducted in-depth interviews with 15 participants, including 13 teenagers, an educator, and a social media expert from urban areas in Bangladesh. The findings reveal that exposure to curated, idealized content on these platforms fosters social comparison, contributing to lowered self-esteem, especially among female participants. Abstract:
We collected ∼1300 km of ground-penetrating radar profiles over McMurdo Ice Shelf, Antarctica, using frequencies between 40 and 400 MHz to determine extent, continuity and depth to the brine. We also used profiles to determine meteoric ice thickness and locate englacial features, which may suggest ice shelf instability. The brine extends 9–13 km inland from the ice shelf terminus and covers the entire region between Ross, White and Black Islands. This work builds on the original semi-automated land cover mapping algorithm and quantifies improvements to class accuracy, analyzes the results, and conducts a more in-depth accuracy assessment in conjunction with test sites and the National Land Cover Database (NLCD).
