Larry Cable may be the most knowledgeable scholar on the Vietnam War; he is certainly the most colorful. Dressed as a cross between a Hell's Angel and a hippie, with his hair down below his waist, he mesmerizes audiences in his frequent lectures at places such as the Air Force Command and Staff College arid the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare School. Beside his encyclopedic command of the documents and his erudition, his war record captivates even those at first taken aback by his appearance.

The Kyrgyz Republic is a country with a transitional economy. Its growth performance is constantly one of the lowest compared to the other members of the Commonwealth of Independent States. This weak performance is mainly caused by political instability and high corruption. Despite being a leading reformer in the region, the country has not done enough to solve its key problems. The current study employs the growth diagnostic approach proposed by Hausmann, Rodrik, and Velasco (2005, Growth diagnostics. Cambridge, MA: The John F. COVID-19 marks a time of social isolation and social change in the lives of many people. While previous literature has focused on the mental health consequences of isolation on young people, our qualitative research aims to explore the lived experiences of adolescents during the pandemic. Based on 10 in-depth, semi-structured interviews with senior year students at the John F. Kennedy School in Berlin, this study seeks to determine whether both the government and school-imposed COVID-measures have impacted the social lives of our participants and to understand how they experience these potenti

A MATTER OF NATIONAL CONCERN examines the Kennedy Administration’s contribution to the restoration of public education in Prince Edward County, Virginia, and determines if those actions support the dominant narrative of Kennedy’s overall civil rights record – a historical assessment generally generated from a few acute crises. For five consecutive years (1959-1964), in defiance of federal court orders, the county board of supervisors refused to levy taxes to operate public schools, marking Prince Edward County as the only locale in the nation without free public education. Born in 1925 in Brookline, Massachusetts, Robert F. Kennedy was the seventh of nine children of a close-knit political family. After serving in the military and then graduating from college and law school, Kennedy became campaign manager for his brother John F. Kennedy’s successful bid to reach the U.S. Senate in 1952. Throughout the 1950s Robert Kennedy served on a number of Senate committees as legal counsel and made a name for himself in hearings that investigated labor racketeering. In 1960 he managed John’s successful presidential campaign, and he served in his brother’s administration as

Abstract Back in the early 1980s, well before the Cold War had ended, a very brainy group from the John F. Kennedy School at Harvard convened other experts like Robert MacNamara, the late Representative Les As pin, and a former Ambassador to Austria for a week in Wyoming. The agenda: to entertain alternatives to nuclear deterrence 50 years into the future. I was asked to attend not because I knew anything about strategic arms, but to help manage the process of alternative scenario development.

This chapter discusses President Dwight D. Eisenhower's decision to send federal troops to Little Rock, Arkansas, on September 24, 1957, which marked a pivotal moment in the fight for school desegregation. Despite his reluctance to publicly endorse the Supreme Court's decision in Brown v. Board of Education, Eisenhower's decisive intervention at Little Rock ultimately assured the success of school desegregation. The chapter looks at criticisms of Eisenhower's civil rights record that often portrayed him as inactive compared to John F. Kennedy. It mentions Chief Justice Earl Warren, who believe

Abstract It is a great pleasure to introduce Michael Ignatieff’s lecture. If I had to sum up Michael in one word it would be ‘intellectual’. He is in fact one of our leading liberal intellectuals. Now ‘intellectual’ is a word viewed with some suspicion in Britain. It is regarded as strange and intrinsically foreign. I remember an obituary of Karl Popper, which began with the sentence, ‘Like most British intellectuals of his generation, Karl Popper was born in Vienna.’ Michael wasn’t born in Vienna. He was born in Canada. His education was initially in Canada, then in Cambridge (England), then
