Structural elements used in designs are stronger and therefore lighter sections with sufficient axial and bending moment capacity are used. Displacements of structural elements are calculated using the stiffness and Young’s modulus of a profile. These values are not affected by the increased yield stress in higher steel grades and theref

Although tremor is the most common movement disorder, there are few non-invasive treatment options. One of the obstacles to creating effective tremor suppression devices is our lack of understanding regarding where tremor originates (which muscles), how it propagates through the limb (to which degrees of freedom, DOF), and where it manifests most severely (which DOF). To investigate these questions, we created a simple, linear time-invariant model to simulate tremor, with tremorogenic muscle activity input (in the 15 major superficial muscles from the shoulder to the wrist) and joint displacem

In shoulder joints, MWM techniques are commonly performed in patients with subacromial impingement syndrome, frozen shoulder, rotator cuff tendinitis, etc. In treating patients with impingement syndrome, this technique involves the application of a posteriorly directed force by a physical therapist to generate posterior translation of humeral head while the patient is actively elevating his/her arm. AIMS: Multiple studies have shown that arthrocentesis is an effective treatment for internal derangement of the temporomandibular joint. However, it is not known which patient groups will respond to this procedure. It is often difficult for surgeons to preoperatively the outcome of athrocentesis. This had led some researchers to analyze and evaluate specific variables which could possibly be used as prognostic factors to predict the outcome of arthrocentesis. None of those studies used the amount of disc displacement as a prognostic factor to assess the treatment outcome of arthrocentesis. T

In order to investigate growth modifications of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) during dentofacial orthopaedic treatment, various functional appliances have been used to prompt the mandible into a protrusive position in various animal experimental models. The general purpose of this project was (i) to test the effectiveness of a functional appliance specially designed for sheep; (ii) to clarify whether or not forward mandibular displacement in sheep is associated with faster and/or redirected condylar growth; (iii) to evaluate the sheep as a model for dentofacial orth

The purpose of this retrospective study was to examine the predictive value of quantitative MRI disc displacement for changes of TMD signs and symptoms in a pre-orthodontic adolescent patient sample. The sample consisted of fifty-five adolescent patients who had baseline temporomandibular joint MRI and longitudinal clinical records of TMD signs and symptoms. Thirty-eight were females and seventeen were males. The mean age was 12.9 ±1.6 years (range 7.4-16.6). Our analysis revealed that MRI right disc displacement has significant association with changes of ipsilateral joint locking. However

Double cantilever beam (DCB) specimens with distinct intermetallic microstructures and different geometries were fractured under different mode ratios of loading, ψ, to obtain critical strain energy release rate, Jc. The strain energy release rate at crack initiation, Jci, increased with phase angle, ψ, but remained unaffected by the joint geometry. However, the steady-state energy release rate, Jcs, increased with the solder layer thickness. Also, both the Jci and Jcs decreased with the thickness of the intermetallic compound layer. Next, mode I and mixed-mode fracture tests were performed
