When you have eliminated the impossible whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth” [1]. Over the last 5 years I have been photographing what botanists call accidental woody epiphytes and uploading the images onto my website https://scartrees.com.au/. I don’t believe many of these woody epiphytes were accidental at all, but rather deliberately planted and nurtured by the local indigenous people of this semi-arid region [1]. The traditional owners of this land were the Kamilaroi, Euahlayi(Yuwaalayay) & Wailwan people who occupied an area larger than many European countries. Sem

Abstract:
Currently, there are few robustly evaluated social and emotional wellbeing (SEWB) measures available for use with Aboriginal youth in research, policy, and practice. As such, this study used a Rasch measurement approach to examine the psychometric properties of Strong Souls, a 25-item self-reported SEWB instrument, created for use with Aboriginal youth in the Northern Territory. Our sample (N = 154) included youth (15–25 years old) living on Whadjuk (metropolitan Western Australia; N = 91) and Kamilaroi countries (rural New South Wales; N = 63). This article discusses a recent art project created by the Wiradjuri and Kamilaroi artist Jonathon Jones, which was commissioned to commemorate the opening of the revitalized Hyde Park Barracks in Sydney in early 2020. Jones’ work involves a dramatic installation of red and white crushed stones laid throughout the grounds of the barracks, merging the image of the emu footprint with that of the English broad convict arrow to ‘consider Australia’s layered history and contemporary cultural relations’. Yield loss from sawfly (Cephus cinctus Norton) can be prevented by growing solid-stemmed wheat. No solid-stemmed durum cultivars (Triticum turgidumL. var. durum) are registered in Canada, even though solid-stemmed lines are available. Understanding the inheritance of stem solidness in such lines would be useful to breeders. Eight crosses were made between solid-stemmed and hollow-stemmed durums: Trinakria/DT369, Trinakria/DT367, Hugenot G/DT369, Hugenot W/DT369, 8678-1048A/Hugenot W, 8678-1048A/Hugen ot G, Kamilaroi/Hugenot G, and W9262-260D3/Kofa. Abstract:
In Australia, if you asked people who was a famous Aboriginal person you are likely to be told the names of a number of different sports people or maybe an artist or two. You don’t hear about many other famous Aboriginal people. You certainly wouldn’t heat about a successful Aboriginal ballroom dancer. I decided to undertake this Master’s thesis to document the life of my cousin Barry Keegan who after having a very traumatic childhood rose up to be a national and international professional ballroom dancer and successful entrepreneur. He married three times but didn’t have any children, I feel

The Notebook of Belonging engages with and contributes distinct values in relation to connection, belonging and narrative. Its ‘Voice’ situates an ontological approach originating from familial and cultural traditions. Multifaceted, it speaks to Western intellectual values, Aboriginality and the transformative nature of silence. Primarily a practise-based creative nonfiction project, the Notebook of Belonging has an embedded exegetical commentary. The exegetical cannot be sliced away at either end without weakening the centre; the centre is not as strong without the exegetical. In this way, th

This case study outlines the development of one component of the interactive multimedia CD-ROM Paakantyi (Hercus & Nathan, 2002), emphasising the value of community consultation throughout the project lifespan.1 In our initial consultations with members of the Paakantyi community of NSW, Australia, about producing a CD-ROM to support their new language revival efforts, community members put forward the idea of a “talking dictionary.” The value that many aboriginal people place on dictionaries as symbols of a language’s significance is well-known, and, particularly following the publication
