The aim of this thesis was to characterize lean production and kanban method in TRW Carr, s.r.o., Stará Boleslav. The thesis describes current firm situation with focus on kanban method. The another aim was to propose possible improvements. In the thesis are proposed solutions, successfully implemented in different plants. The thesis also include totaly new proposals, which can be implemented only in concrete plant. The last aim of this thesis was to find more effective system and implement new trends, if possible.

Abstract:
Abstract To gain competitive advantage and thrive in the market, companies have introduced Kanban in software development. Kanban has been used in the manufacturing industry for over six decades. In the software engineering domain, Kanban was introduced in 2004 to increase flexibility in coping with dynamic requirements, bring visibility to workflow and related tasks, improve communication, and promote the pull system. However, the existing scientific literature lacks empirical evidence of the use of Kanban in software companies. This doctoral thesis aims to improve the understanding of the use of Kanban in software engineering. The research was performed in two phases: 1) analysis of scientific literature on Kanban in software engineering and industrial engineering and 2) investigation of Kanban implementation trends in software companies. The data was collected through systematic literature reviews, survey and semi-structured interviews. The results were synthesized to draw conclusions and outline implications for research and practice. The results indicate growing interest in the use of Kanban in software companies. The findings suggest that Kanban is applicable to software development, software maintenance, and portfolio management in software companies. Kanban brings visibility to task and offering status, limits work in progress at any given time gives people greater control over their work and limit task switching. Although Kanban offers several benefits, as reported in this dissertation, the findings show that software companies find it challenging to implement Kanban incrementally
Tiivistelmä Ohjelmistoteollisuudessa Kanbanin käyttö on yleistynyt vuodesta 2004 alkaen. Sillä pyritään tuomaan joustavuutta muuttuvien vaatimusten hallintaan, tuomaan näkyvyyttä työnkulkuun ja toisiinsa liittyviin tehtäviin, parantamaan kommunikaatiota sekä edistämään imuohjauksen hyödyntämistä. Kanbania on käytetty valmistavassa teollisuudessa jo yli kuuden vuosikymmenen ajan. Olemassa olevassa tieteellisessä kirjallisuudessa on kuitenkin esitetty hyvin vähän empiirisiä tutkimustuloksia Kanbanin käytöstä ohjelmistoyrityksissä. Väitöskirjan tavoitteena on parantaa ymmärrystä Kanbanin käytöstä ohjelmistotuotannossa. Tutkimus toteutettiin kahdessa vaiheessa: 1) Kirjallisuusanalyysi Kanbanin käytöstä ohjelmistotuotannossa ja tuotantotekniikassa ja 2) Empiirinen tutkimus Kanbanin käyttöönoton trendeistä ohjelmistoyrityksissä. Tutkimusaineisto kerättiin systemaattisten kirjallisuuskatsausten, kyselytutkimuksen ja puolistrukturoitujen teemahaastattelujen kautta. Tutkimustulosten synteesin pohjalta tehtiin johtopäätöksiä Kanbanin käytöstä ohjelmistotuotannossa sekä niiden merkityksestä alan tutkimukselle ja Kanbanin käytölle yrityksissä. Tutkimuksen tulokset osoittavat kasvavaa kiinnostusta Kanbanin käyttöä kohtaan ohjelmistoyrityksissä. Tulosten perusteella Kanban soveltuu käytettäväksi ohjelmistokehityksessä, ohjelmistojen ylläpidossa sekä tuoteportfolion hallinnassa. Kanban tuo näkyvyyttä ohjelmistokehitykseen, niin meneillään olevien tehtävien kuin portfoliotarjoaman osalta. Se myös auttaa rajoittamaan työtehtävien ruuhkautumista ja antaa kehittäjille paremman tavan hallita työtään rajoittamalla työtehtävien vaihtoa. Vaikka Kanbanin käytöllä on mahdollista saavuttaa väitöskirjatutkimuksessa esitettyjä hyötyjä, tulokset osoittavat, että ohjelmistoyrityksillä on haasteita Kanbanin inkrementaalisessa käyttöönotossa

Hos många företag används whiteboards för att visualisera arbetsprocessen. En vanlig metodik för detta är så kallade Kanban boards, ett system av tabeller och lappar för att indikera olika avvikelser eller moment i projekt med datum och annan relevant information. Företag kan även välja att använda en mjukvara som simulerar samma metodik, ett exempel på detta är så kallade Elektroniska kanban boards. I detta arbete har båda dessa metoder (whiteboard samt en digital lösning) observerats hos tre olika företag på uppdrag av ett managementkonsultföretag i Stockholm som använder sig av Kanban boards och liknande metodik med sina kunder. En omvärldsanalys har genomförts genom att studera olika funktioner hos existerande elektroniska kanban boards samt en litteraturstudie över existerande forskning inom ämnet. Många problem upptäcktes med existerande arbetsmetod såsom komplikationer med säkerhet och problem med att dela med sig av en tavla till människor som inte är lokalt närvarande. I detta arbete har efter förstudien ett lösningsförslag presenterats och delvis implementerats. Förslaget utvecklades genom en iterativ designprocess och kontinuerliga samtal med arbetsgivare, där fokus har legat på interaktion. Den slutliga prototypen testades med några potentiella slutanvändare genom låta dom utföra enkla uppgifter med programmet och sedan diskutera för och nackdelar med interaktionsupplevelsen. Slutligen demonstrerades programmet för arbetsgivare och managementkonsulter. Förslaget godkändes för vidare utveckling och en stor pekskärm köptes in för vidare experiment.
Many corporations use whiteboards to visualize the work process. A common method for this is the so called Kanban boards, a system of tables and notes to indicate different deviations or parts in a project with dates and other relevant information. Companies can also choose to use software that simulates the same method, one example of this is the so called Electronic kanban board. In this paper, both of these methods (whiteboard and a digital solution) were observed in three different companies on behalf of a management consultancy in Stockholm who use Kanban boards and similar methods with their clients. A small market research was carried out by studying the functions of existing electronic Kanban boards as well as a literature review of existing research on the topic. Many problems were discovered with existing working methods such as complications with security and problems with sharing boards to people who are not locally present. In this work, a proposed solution is presented and partially implemented. The proposal was developed through an iterative design process and ongoing discussions with the employer, where focus has been placed on the interaction. The final prototype was tested with some potential end-users by allowing them to perform simple tasks with the program and then discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the interaction experience. Finally, the software was demonstrated to the employers and other management consultants. The proposal was approved for further development and a large touch screen was purchased for further experiments.

Esta dissertação apresenta o estudo e aplicabilidade dos conceitos do Just in Time (JIT) e Kanban em modelos de gestão de estoques. O produtos são suprimentos utilizados no processo de surfaçagem de lentes oftalmológicas de um grande fabricante mundial. O trabalho foi desenvolvido no principal laboratório que a empresa detém no Brasil, situado na cidade do Rio de Janeiro. O objetivo foi elaborar uma proposta de controle de estoque de forma a garantir um bom atendimento aos clientes com uma redução de estoque de suprimentos.
This thesis presents the study and applicability of the concepts of Just in Time (JIT) and Kanban in models for inventory management. The products are supplies used in the facing process of ophthalmic lenses of a large global manufacturer. The study was conducted in the main laboratory that the company owns in the country, located in the city of Rio de Janeiro, inside the distribution center and attends strategic customers in the state. The objective was to develop a proposed of inventory control to ensure to the best customers service with a reduction of inventory of supplies.

For the past two decades, rising customer expectations and increased global competition have forced automotive manufacturers around the world to significantly improve the efficiency of their production operations. One critical area of improvement has been in external logistics, logistics involving shipment of materials from external suppliers to final assembly plants. This thesis focuses on potential cost savings and procedural improvements from the implementation of kanban systems for external logistics. These are called external kanban systems. This analysis covers many facets of external kanban systems, including their benefits over traditional external logistics systems, their impact on transportation methods, their effect on inventories, and their and their anticipated effect on organizational learning in the final assembly plant. This project was pursued to reduce the cost and improve the reliability of external logistics at Ford Motor Company's Saarlouis Assembly Plant (Ford-Saarlouis). At Ford-Saarlouis, the implementation of these external kanban systems served as a critical portion of the replenishment process, as a training tool to familiarize plant employees with kanban systems, and as a template for future external logistics improvements.

Desde hace ya un par de décadas, las metodologías ágiles o lean thinking, han revolucionado la forma de trabajar, no sólo en ingeniería de software, sino en gran parte de la industria. Donde los principios básicos apuntan al trabajo en equipo, al aportar valor al proyecto cuanto antes y a la capacitación de desarrolladores. Los procesos se flexibilizan y se vuelven transversales, opuesto al ordenamiento en cascada, lo que hasta ese entonces se realizaba. Kanban se puede considerar como una herramienta de apoyo a las metodologías ágiles. Bajo el simple objetivo de mantener la información visible, Kanban se ha convertido en un excelente complemento para quienes utilizan las metodologías ágiles, aportando a la flexibilidad de los procesos y al trabajo en equipo. Pero tiene ciertas falencias típicas de lo que vulgarmente sería un tablero con papeles de colores: se puede caer y perder toda la información que contenía, no hay como incluir automáticamente indicadores de gestión, etcétera. Este Trabajo de Título pretende corregir las falencias de mayor impacto en el desarrollo a través de una aplicación que actúe como respaldo del Kanban, donde las tareas sean ingresadas junto a sus estados y se pueda verificar, por ejemplo la ultima configuración conocida de la misma. El desarrollo de la aplicación consistió en cuatro etapas, cada una de las cuales entrega una versión funcional de la aplicación. A medida que se avanzaba se iba revisando las falencias para poder mejorarlas en la siguiente versión, siendo la interfaz gráfica donde se realizó la mayor cantidad de mejoras. Como casos de prueba, la versión final de la aplicación se entregó a tres empresas, dos de ellas sin experiencia previa en agilidad, quienes la utilizaron durante tres meses, reportando fallos y posibles mejoras. Esto sirvió además para estudiar la adaptación de cada empresa a la aplicación. Los resultados que se obtuvieron fueron satisfactorios, tanto en el desarrollo, funcionamiento y casos de prueba.

Abstract:
The topic of the diploma work is the use of modern methods in the management of stock. Stock represents very important part of the company's economy; its right level contributes to the increase of competitiveness of the company. The diploma work states the theoretical basis for management of stock and analyzes in detail the chosen methods -- kanban a Just-In-Sequence, which is often understood as a next step in implementation of the pull principle -- consumption manager inventory. The main aim of the work is the analysis of definition of the stock for the system of kanban and Just-In-Sequence and definition which effect have it's parts on the stock. According to a target of the work a hypothesis was defined. The right implementation of kanban, or Just-In-Sequence and incidence on it's parts contributes to a reduction of stock. The practical part of the work analyzes in detail the formulas of calculation of the stock in the system of kanban, it's factors are simulated and the level of stock examined. Accordingly, the comparison of the system of kanban and Just-In-Sequence is provided. In the end of the work the recommendations for implementation of kanban and Just-In-Sequence are made. Also the successfulness of the implementation of new methods in the defined company is evaluated and recommendations are prepared.

O objetivo deste trabalho é: analisar a utilização do sistema Kanban no interior de empresas da indústria automobilística da Região de Curitiba, para verificar se elas estão utilizando seu potencial total, bem como identificar os benefícios deste sistema ao planejamento e controle da produção. Para tanto, efetuou-se um levantamento bibliográfico para se ter um referencial teórico e uma pesquisa de campo em empresas ligadas ao setor automobilístico para verificar a forma como utilizam o sistema Kanban e sua inserção a partir do Plano Mestre de Produção (PMP) dentro do Planejamento e Controle da Produção (PCP). O fundamento de se buscar a análise em indústrias automobilísticas encontra-se ligado à própria história da produção enxuta, a qual foi desenvolvida no Japão em uma indústria automobilística: a Toyota, obtendo excelentes resultados. Para elaboração da pesquisa de campo, buscou-se na região da cidade de Curitiba três empresas desse segmento, as quais têm efetivado a implementação do sistema Kanban a menos de cinco anos. Com isso, podem fornecer informações concretas e objetivas quanto a forma e as vantagens de implementação desse sistema, bem como seu relacionamento com a elaboração do Plano Mestre de Produção dentro do PCP. Como resultados obteve-se um elevado grau de satisfação das empresas pesquisadas no que concerne a implementação do sistema Kanban, e sua relação com a elaboração do PMP dentro do PCP, no que tange o atendimento da diversidade do mercado, tornando o sistema de PCP flexível o suficiente para suportar estas oscilações. Estruturou-se da seguinte forma: Capítulo 1 - trata da introdução do trabalho, no qual constam: a origem do trabalho; a importância do trabalho; objetivos geral e específico; as limitações e a estrutura do trabalho. Capítulo 2 - abrange a revisão bibliográfica sobre o Planejamento e Controle de Produção, Plano Mestre de Produção e o sistema Kanban, incluindo seu histórico, definição, forma de aplicação e implementação, vantagens, desvantagens e suas limitações quanto às características das empresas. Capítulo 3 - a partir dos conceitos teóricos do capítulo 2 é descrita a metodologia de pesquisa a ser efetuada no interior das empresas da indústria automobilística da região de Curitiba. Capítulo 4 - neste capítulo são relatados os resultados da aplicação da pesquisa efetuada no interior das empresas, descrevendo os resultados e analisando-os conforme a teoria de base do capítulo 2. No final do capítulo apresenta-se uma conclusão sobre o caso prático. Capítulo 5 - neste capítulo apresentam-se às conclusões obtidas através do desenvolvimento deste trabalho e as recomendações para trabalhos futuros, ou situações que podem ser modificadas ao longo do tempo.

A escolha dos métodos de planejamento e controle de produção mais adequados para uma determinada empresa, é uma tarefa bastante árdua. Dentro de um mercado global, no qual a competitividade é a tônica, a procura de metodologias que permitam o aumento da produtividade é uma constante. O presente trabalho avalia as metodologias MRPII, "kanban" e OPT diante de alguns dos fatores que devem ser analisados para o projeto de um sistema de controle de produção. Os fatores analisados são: natureza da demanda, características dos produtos e processos, fontes de suprimento, nível tecnológico dos equipamentos e os estágios da organização da produção.
Choosing the right production planning and control system is a challenging task for every industrial company. In global markets, with strong competition, there are constant searches for the introduction of new methodologies or the implementation of strongly established ones, that represents increasing of productivity. This paper analyses some factors which are important to take into account for the choice of an specific methodology. The factors analyzed are: the nature of the demand, the products and process characteristics, sources of suppliers, the technology levei and the stage of the production organization.

As embalagens são excelentes exemplos de como é possível caracterizar o produto embalado, e como ele se comporta nos modos de uso que exigem de seus consumidores e usuários. Uma boa embalagem é visualizada, aos olhos do consumidor, como um diferencial atrativo e decisivo em sua compra. Matérias-primas com alto valor agregado são usadas para a confecção da embalagem. Para satisfazer às necessidades do consumidor e concorrer no mercado, os fabricantes investem em tecnologia, design e redução de custos. O importante é estar sempre inovando. Visando acompanhar esse crescimento, foi analisado como as diferentes quantidades de material mantido em estoque, numa empresa industrial produtora de embalagens, devem ser armazenadas de forma a minimizar seus custos de estocagem. Mapas de Fluxo de valor foram usados para visualizar o fluxo de material e informação dentro de uma organização. Kanbans são métodos visuais destinados a informar quando uma atividade ou etapa deve funcionar. Este trabalho é um estudo de caso, em uma indústria de embalagens, sobre a análise e gestão do estoque de matéria-prima, inicialmente identificada como necessário, por uma equipe multidisciplinar, através do mapa de fluxo de valor (MFV). De forma sucessiva o estoque foi dimensionado, visualizado através de cores e controlado por um Kanban Eletrônico. Desta maneira qualquer membro da empresa tem as informações, da matéria-prima, com fácil acesso, podendo assim gerir sua quantidade sem a necessidade de realização de cálculos e presença na área.

Kanban, as well known as a practical toolkit of Lean, has become popular over recent years. Many companies are using Kanban to change and improve their own business and production situations. And many Kanban teams have reported successful implementations. However, there is no single best way to implement Kanban. What each Kanban entity does is to experiment.Kanban has been introduced to Åkers Sweden AB since the second half of 2008, when the global economic risk stated sweeping the world. Facing the shrunk demand, Kanban did drag Åkers Sweden out of the recession swamp. At present, Åkers Sweden is still on the implementing process of its updated Kanban philosophy. There are many obstacles need to overcome, a lot of vagueness need to be clarified, a crowd of aspects need to be improved.Facing this dynamic implementing condition, this thesis is expected to yield in a more practical oriented way, in order to deal with the existing problem in Åkers Sweden.In this thesis, description is used as an essential method to reveal different aspects of Kanban and illustrate how Kanban works. The Kanban is described from both partly and holistic ways. It is decomposed into several components, which is described respectively. And the holistic Kanban is mainly reflected on its goal.This detailed description does a preparation for the evaluation and analysis. SWOT analysis is used as the main analysis tool. Since the analysis process is very open, any thoughtful thinking could be involved into the outcomes. And the main purpose of the Kanban analysis is to inspire more re-thinking and realize continuous improvement.

Zetterberg's Industri AB believe that capital and lead time will be reduced by implementing Kanban. Therefore, it was an investigation to prove that Kanban is an effective method. In this work a research had to be done to show how the material supply system looks like today and to explore the subframe components to see which components that are interesting from Kanban viewpoint. Previous orders of subframes were investigated. Therefore, it was a list of the various components of the previous orders for the subframe. Annual volume and manufacturing steps were developed over the various components and then you could see which components which were most interesting for Kanban. It was some discussions with the supervisor and the Lean coach for a decision to introduce Kanban for 5 components. A research of capital and inventory turnover was done for the components. The work also included the selection of appropriate storage sites for these five components and then selected the sites that were closest to the subframe. After this investigation, it was an estimate of capital and inventory turnover on a specific date for the new changes and then could an easier comparison between the old and the new material supply system. With the results it was easy to conclude that Kanban method is a better method compared to the old system because it showed that the capital reduction decreased and inventory turnover increased for the 5 components. The lead time will also be reduced when the warehouse staff do not need to be involved in the process. It is only the workers for the manufacturing of the components and the workers for the subframe which needs to be involved in the process. The administrative leadtime will also be reduced. Further analysis can be done in a forthcoming work on more components.

The kanban system is a popular Toyota lean manufacturing tool used to help facilitate material movement between workstations and suppliers. Since the 1950’s, the original kanban system has undergone many different variations due to the advancement of technology and unique company implementation. This report focuses on the development and building of a new variation of the kanban system using lean principles while integrating radio frequency identification (RFID) technology with a fully electronic based kanban card system. This new type of kanban system will be called the RFID E-Kanban in this report. Since the lean philosophy is to reduce non-value added waste to a process, the new prototype kanban system meets four design objectives that are consistent with the principles of lean and the original purpose of the kanban system. The RFID E-Kanban prototype must support the process of continuous improvement The RFID E-Kanban prototype must reduce overall non-value added waste to the material flow process The RFID E-Kanban prototype must be intuitive and simple to use for the operator The RFID E-Kanban prototype control must be decentralized In an applied case study, a RFID E-Kanban prototype was built for a Department of Defense facility involving the movement of chemicals between two locations.

In this thesis, an approximation is proposed to evaluate the steady-state performance of kanban controlled assembly systems. The approximation is developed for the systems with two components making up an assembly. Then, it is extended to systems with more than two components. A continuous-time Markov model is aggregated keeping the model exact, and this aggregate model is approximated replacing some state-dependent transition rates with constant rates. Decomposition of the approximate aggregate model into submodels guarantees product-form steady-state distribution for each subsystem. Finally, submodels are combined in such a way that the size of the problem becomes independent of the number of kanbans. This brings about the computational advantage in solving the combined model using numerical matrix-geometric solution algorithms. Based on the numerical comparisons with simulation, the exact model, an approximate aggregate model and another approximation in a previous study in the literature, the approximation is observed to be good in terms of accuracy with respect to computational burden and has the potential to be a building block for the analysis of systems that are more complex but closer to real-life applications.

Managing the distribution of medical supplies to clinical units within a hospital is a key component of a hospital’s administrative costs. In an attempt to control costs, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) installed a two-bin kanban system across multiple departments. In this thesis, we analyze the effectiveness of the kanban system from two viewpoints: organizational benefits—defined as the process of organizing the supply-chain into the two-bin kanban system—and inventory benefit—defined as the effects of staging the resupply in a two-bin fashion. We analyze two years of data, across twelve departments, comprising almost 375,000 items ordered. The results show significant organizational benefits to the hospital overall, and a steady-state in inventory costs. The data did not show consistent results across individual departments, with departments experiencing increases, decreases, and steady-states for both benefits. Additionally, we note that there is further room for WRNMMC to exploit the kanban system's ability to optimize inventory sizes via the two-bin kanban process.

Alguns fatores influenciam a competitividade das organizações na atualidade, frente às empresas globais: a utilização de tecnologia de ponta, a difusão do conhecimento, a preocupação com questões ambientais, entre outros. Este último fator tem sido de grande interesse, devido a todas as mudanças que o mundo tem enfrentado. Para todas as empresas, a busca pela mudança de processos e pela extinção de atividades poluidoras não tem sido muito fácil. Uma das maiores dificuldades é inserir ações de reaproveitamento nas atividades do dia a dia da empresa, aproveitando práticas que vem sendo utilizadas com resultados positivos. Sistemas de administração da produção, ferramentas como kanban podem ser um dos exemplos destas práticas, ou seja, a sistematização das informações consideradas vitais para a empresa. Este trabalho tem o objetivo de propor um modelo de sistematização das informações sobre resíduos, através da utilização do kanban, como forma de auxiliar o reaproveitamento destes resíduos entre membros da cadeia produtiva. A metodologia proposta é tanto experimental, do modelo em teste, uma vez que o modelo foi testado por quatro empresas, como observação participante e a abordagem é triangular, onde os aspectos qualitativos e quantitativos foram somados para buscar os dados necessários à concepção do modelo. Os resultados obtidos mostraram que quando a informação da quantidade e freqüência de geração do resíduo é sistematizada, ou seja, é disponibilizada pela empresa cliente de forma repetitiva e contínua, como parte integrante de todo o sistema de informação, outra empresa da cadeia não só reaproveita este resíduo como também providencia adequadamente os recursos necessários para a realização deste fluxo de reaproveitamento. A conclusão a que se chegou foi de que a informação sistematizada para ambas as empresas é importante, principalmente para o planejamento do reaproveitamento do resíduo, pois, quando a sua geração for inevitável, sua disposição precisará de todos os tipos de recursos para que seja feita adequadamente.
Some factors influence the competitiveness of the organizations in the present time, front to the global companies: the use of new technology, the diffusion of the knowledge, the concern with ambient questions, and others. This last factor has been of great interest, which had to all the changes that the world has faced. For all the companies, the search for the change of processes and the extinguishing of polluting activities has not been very easy. One of the biggest difficulties is to insert action of recycling in the activities of the company, being used to advantage practical that it comes being used with positive results. Systems of production planning, tools as kanban can be one of the examples of these practical, that is, the systematization of the information considered vital for the company. This work has the objective to present a model of systematization of the waste information, through the use of kanban, as form of assisting the recycling of this waste between members of the productive chain. The methodology proposal is experimental, of the model in test, a time that the model was tested by four companies, and participant, and the boarding is triangular, where the qualitative and quantitative aspects will be added to search the necessary data to the conception of the model. The gotten results had shown that when the information of the amount and frequency of generation of the waste is systemized, that is, are showed by the company customer of continuous and repetitive forms, as integrant part of all the information system, another company of the chain not only recycle this waste as well as provides adequately the necessary resources for the accomplishment of this flow of recycling. The conclusion was of that the information systemize for both the companies is important, mainly for the planning of the recycling of the residue, therefore, when its generation will be inevitable, its disposal will need all the types of resources so that it is made adequately.

Culturalmente, as entidades prestadoras de saúde exigem ter elevados níveis de stock, de forma a tentar prestar o melhor Serviço ao paciente, pelo que se suspeita que requisitem material em excesso e em elevada variedade, originando um fluxo descontínuo de materiais, o que associado a um fluxo insuficiente de informação, poderá gerar uma afectação de recursos demasiado elevado.. O outro objectivo igualmente relevante passa por melhorar o processo de Gestão Logística, pretendendo-se alcançar também uma redução de custos, redução de stock médio no armazém central, aumentar a disponibilidade de stocks e, por conseguinte, o nível de serviço prestado aos clientes internos conseguindo um maior grau de satisfação. Mais concretamente, foi escolhida a ferramenta E-Kanban. Nesta metodologia os pedidos de materiais de consumo clínico são gerados automaticamente, quando o stock fica abaixo do ponto de pedido criando uma dinâmica contínua entre Logística e Serviços.
The objective of this research is to find a possible solution related with a suspicion of excess resources involved on the logistics operations, such as waste and poor information flow, between Logistics and Clinical Services (internal customers). Historically Medical Services requires high stock levels in order to provide the best Customer Service, which could make that they order excessive materials and high variability, doing a discontinuous product flow and insufficient information, creating a high resources allocation. Thus the main objective of TFM is introducing Lean Thinking at IPOLFG and test if a tool Lean implementation could be beneficial to reduce the constraints identified above and the results and objectives of the hospital. At the Logistics Management, the goal is to achieve a cost reduction, as well as, a reduction in average stock at the central warehouse, improving the availability of stocks with the proposal to get a high customer service satisfaction. Specifically the select tool was the E-Kanban. In this methodology there is no more physical requests, except in emergencies, since the EDI system place automatically requests when the stocks is below the reorder point.

The issue of changes in requirements in software development due to fast and ever changing business condition attracts various software development processes. These development processes includes Agile, Lean software development and the recent addition of Kanban. Kanban method uses visual display (Kanban-board) to enhance software development by displaying various phases of the development process. Using explicit principles, Kanban method pulls tasks across different software development stages. This method is increasingly important, due to its many advantages, such as, reducing lead time, improving software quality, improving team communication, and increasing employee motivation. However, the knowledge of Kanban in software development is still limited. This study used a systematic literature review method, to analyze relevant literature within the field of industrial engineering; taking into consideration that Kanban originates from the field of industrial engineering. The studies reviewed were published within 1997 and 2013. The search strategy identified 1552 papers, of which 53 were identified as relevant. These studies were then grouped into five themes— description, principles, benefits, performance and types. Based on these themes, the outcomes were then analyzed using existing knowledge of Kanban as related to software development. The focus of this thesis was to uncover knowledge that can be useful in the application of Kanban methods to software development processes. The findings show the Kanban practiced in software development is somewhat the original Kanban in industrial engineering. Nevertheless, the review reveals several variants of Kanban method, driven by various production process environments. The findings also revealed that, the application of Kanban can reduce waste that exists in the form of extra-features. One of the implications of the research is the need to consider impact of context in the application of Kanban in software development process.

Este projecto aborda um ensaio comparativo sobre métodos de aprovisionamento levado a cabo na Grohe Portugal, Componentes Sanitários. São eles o sistema Kanban de Fornecedor e o Ponto de Reabastecimento, em vez do tradicional método, baseado em requisições de compra geradas pelo SAP com suporte nas necessidades. Para validar o ensaio, seleccionou-se um fornecedor nacional, de forma a obter um lead time curto, e escolheram-se dois componentes com consumo elevado e nivelado. Os resultados obtidos foram claramente positivos nos dois métodos comparados, permitindo reduzir stock, e assim o valor e espaço em armazém a ele associado. Obteve-se maior controlo e melhorou-se o fluxo de informação entre a Grohe e o fornecedor seleccionado e diminui-se o trabalho associado ao aprovisionador encarregue da aquisição dos dois componentes seleccionados.
This project approaches a comparative essay on the provisioning methods practiced by the sanitary fitting manufacturer Grohe Portugal, between a kanban system to the supplier and a reorder point, instead of the traditional method based in purchase requests generated by SAP supported on the needs. To validate the essay, a national supplier was chosen, so that a shorter lead-time could be obtained, two components with a high and levelled consumption were also chosen. The results obtained in the two compared methods were clearly positive, allowing the decrease of stock, and that way, the value and space in storehouse associated to it, an improvement in the control was obtained, and the flow of information between Grohe and the chosen supplier increased, the work associated with the provisioner responsible for the acquisition of the two selected components was also diminished.

A Irbal é uma empresa de fabricação de máquinas para construção civil, que utilizava os tradicionais sistemas de produção com base na produção push e com recurso a ordens de fabrico. Foi selecionado um posto de trabalho que produzia um elevado número de referências, para que o sistema pudesse assim ser testado, e foi aplicado o sistema de um cartão Kanban. Caso o projeto seja bem-sucedido, está previsto o seu posterior alargamento a outros processos produtivos da empresa. A falta de algum material encomendado não possibilitou que o sistema kanban entrasse em funcionamento. Contudo, a proposta de solução desenvolvida foi aprovada pela empresa. Em resumo, foram analisadas as características do posto de trabalho em questão, foi dimensionado o Kanban e definidas todas as características inerentes à ferramenta.
The aim of this Project was develop and implement the Kanban system into a metalworking industry. The Irbal is a company that manufactures construction machinery, using traditional push systems based on production orders. In order to the possibility of being tested, a workcenter which produced a high number of different products was chosen and it was applied the one card Kanban method. If the project is successful, its extension to other processes of the company is planned. The lack of some equipment ordered didn’t allow that the work to be completed. However, the proposed was approved by the company. In summary, the work’s characteristics were analyzed, the Kanban has been designed and it was defined all the features related to this system.

In that way of sorting they lose the priority in terms of pickingthe first ordered material first. A proposal for order priority were given; by manuallyprint lists several times a day, orders are prevented to have longer waiting time thana few hours. The materials suppliers picked several lists at the same time, suggestionswere given to determine the number of pick / delivery by limiting the number of liststo shorten the cycle time.The suggestions of improvement for the material suppliers are also proposed to beintroduced in the SAP system as a long term solution.

Syftet med uppsatsen var att ta reda på om Kanban-metoden verkligen är en bra metod att använda sig av för att styra utvecklingsprojekt och om den bidrar till att stödja planering och information. Undersökningen syftade också till att se om det finns några problem och brister med metoden, samt om den behöver kompletteras med delar från andra metoder. Undersökningen genomfördes genom att först samla in teori inom området för att få den kunskap om olika metoder som behövs för att kunna svara på de frågeställningar som undersökningen syftar till att svara på. Empirin samlades in på ett företag som använder sig av Kanban genom intervjuer med tre av de anställda. Kanban kan användas som en projektstyrningsmetod även om det blir en bättre metod om den kompletteras med delar från andra metoder utifrån vad företaget tycker är bra och vad de känner att de behöver. Metoden är ett bra stöd vad gäller planering och information då den visuella Kanban-tavlan gör den tydlig och lättillgänglig för alla på företaget. Det finns en del brister och problem med metoden, varav den största bristen är att det är svårt att ge en exakt leveranstid.

El Tablero Kanban es un sistema de información físico asociado a la metodología lean. Es un tablero que refleja los estados de las actividades que se deben realizar en un proceso determinado. Con tarjetas-señal las personas asumen sus responsabilidades. Al poder visualizar el flujo de trabajo, se muestran rápidamente los logros y problemas del proceso. Con esta herramienta los equipos logran enfocarse en terminar las tareas que tienen asignadas y no en acumular tareas iniciadas. El objetivo general del presente trabajo es evaluar y desarrollar una herramienta tecnológica para la implementación de Tableros Kanban Virtuales, que sea expresiva, con el objeto de ser lo más parecido posible a un Tablero Kanban Físico, donde no se impone una sintaxis y no se define una semántica, sino que la define el grupo que lo ocupa. Con las herramientas existentes, la sintaxis y la semántica están contextualizadas y acopladas, por lo que los que las usen, deben adaptarse a esas estructuras, siendo que los principios de los Tableros Kanban definen que ellos se deben adaptar a la realidad, y que además se puedan ocupar en los más variados contextos. El trabajo fue realizado evaluando las alternativas existentes de tableros físicos, virtuales y teóricos, analizando sus características, sintaxis, semánticas y agrupando los gestos ocupados para poder extraer la información general relevante que sea capaz de cubrir la mayor cantidad de contextos posibles para que el tablero Kanban Virtual sea capaz de adaptarse a la realidad de cualquier grupo que lo use. El resultado final fue la implementación en ambiente Web de un grupo de gestos genéricos que se pueden aplicar a un grupo de objetos sintácticos, que fueron priorizados e implementados por importancia de su uso, resultando en un Tablero Kanban Virtual expresivo, adaptable a la mayoría de los contextos revisados, desarrollado de forma modular con estándares y publicado como código abierto. Se concluye que es factible construir una herramienta que no imponga una semántica, que defina un mínimo de sintaxis, que soporte los gestos necesarios y que sea lo suficientemente expresiva como para reemplazar o complementar de manera correcta a un Tablero Kanban Físico, con las ventajas de un Tablero Kanban Virtual. Se llama eKanban.

The kanban system is the most popular technique for implementing the Just-In-Time philosophy. In this dissertation we develop mathematical models for the deterministic, capacitated, single kanban system. Three different production structures are studied. The models are used to analyze the system, understand the need and behavior of kanbans, and compute good solutions for the number of kanbans to allocate for each part. The first model applies to the single-stage, single-item system. Optimal solutions for the number of kanbans for this system are developed. The second and third models are built for the multi-stage, single-item system and the single-stage, multi-item system respectively. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the feasibility of a set of kanbans are developed for the last two models. The conditions are used to develop heuristic and optimal solution procedures. The heuristic procedures are tested over randomly generated problems and are shown to perform very well compared to the optimal solution procedures.

Abstract:
To improve productivity, it is important that the right product is produced in the right quantity when that product is needed. Kanban is a way to signalise the need for material and its main aspect is that it pulls materials through the processes only when needed. Kanban can therefore help reduce Work In Progress (WIP). Quality Control (QC) at AstraZeneca in Södertälje is tasked with controlling the quality of batch samples from production. Several different analyses need to be performed on a batch and all the analyses should preferably be done at the same time to reduce the levels of ongoing work. The currently used system and working procedures for planning analysis activities at the QC laboratories results in high levels of WIP. The aim of this project was to investigate the possibility to replace the currently used planning system with an electronic Kanban board so that WIP can be limited and a more predictable flow achieved. Observations and discussions have been conducted to understand the current state of the QC process. A literature review has been conducted to form a theoretical framework for concepts such as Just-In-Time and Kanban. A Kanban board has been configured using a software suggested by AstraZeneca for one team. The functionality of the board is presented along with a discussion of how it can be used in their operations. It has been configured so it is possible to prioritise the completion of ongoing batch analyses before new batches are started, making it possible to reduce WIP and achieve a more predictable flow. Tasks are to be prioritised according to a decision tree. Limitations in the construction of the board and challenges with a potential future implementation are discussed. The board has been presented to team leaders and analysts to gain their input. Based on this, some alterations have been suggested. A suggestion for the setup of a pilot test is presented. It is recommended that the board is tested in parallel with the current planning system to evaluate the possibility to implement the board in a larger scale and to further investigate challenges and possibilities with the software.
För att förbättra produktiviteten är det viktigt att rätt produkt produceras i rätt mängd när den behövs. Kanban är ett sätt att signalera behov av material och dess huvudaspekt är att material dras genom processen endast när det behövs. Kanban kan därför minska pågående arbete (WIP). Quality Control (QC) på AstraZeneca i Södertälje har som uppgift att kontrollera kvaliteten på batchprover från produktion. Flera olika analyser måste genomföras på en batch och alla analyser ska helst slutföras samtidigt för att reducera nivåerna av pågående arbete. Det nuvarande systemet och arbetsrutiner för att planera analysaktiviteter på QC laboratorierna resulterar i höga nivåer av WIP. Syftet med detta projekt var att undersöka möjligheten att ersätta det nuvarande planeringssystemet med en elektronisk Kanbantavla så att nivåerna av WIP kan begränsas och ett mer förutsägbart flöde uppnås. Observationer och diskussioner har genomförts för att få en förståelse för nuvarande arbetssätt i QC. En litteraturstudie har genomförts för att bilda ett teoretisk ramverk för koncept som Just-In-Time och Kanban. En Kanbantavla har konfigurerats för ett av lagen i en programvara som föreslagits av AstraZeneca. Tavlans funktionalitet presenteras och det diskuteras hur denna kan användas i deras verksamhet. Den har konfigurerats så att det är möjligt att prioritera att analyserna av pågående batcher slutförs innan nya batcher påbörjas, vilket möjliggör en reduktion av WIP och skapandet av ett mer förutsägbart flöde. Ett beslutsträd ska användas som hjälpmedel för att prioritera arbetsuppgifter rätt. Begränsningar i konstruktionen och utmaningar med en potentiell framtida implementation diskuteras. Tavlan har presenterats för team leaders och analytiker för att erhålla deras input. Baserat på denna har också några ändringar föreslagits. Ett förslag på upplägg för en pilottestning presenteras. Det är rekommenderat att tavlan testas parallellt med nuvarande planeringssystem för att utvärdera möjligheten att implementera den i större skala samt för att vidare undersöka utmaningar och möjligheter med programvaran.

Nous nous sommes intéressés dans cette thèse aux politiques de gestion de production à flux tiré. Après avoir constaté la diversité des politiques existantes (basestocke, kanban, politique hybrides dont kanban étendu et kanban généralisé, pilotage optimal, …), nous avons proposé une formulation unifiée pour décrire leur dynamique. La validité de cette formulation est démontrée, puis nous l’appliquons à la description de plusieurs politiques connues. Un algorithme est donné pour pouvoir appliquer facilement cette formulation à une catégorie très générale de politiques. Cette formulation commune des politiques nous a permis de trouver les identités de fonctionnement qui existaient entre le kanban étendu et le kanban généralisé. En introduisant des coûts de possession et des coûts de non satisfaction des demandes, nous avons aussi effectué une comparaison des coûts de plusieurs politiques sous-optimales, en utilisant à chaque fois la politique optimale et son coût comme référence. La politique optimale est calculée par programmation dynamique. Pour finir nous proposons deux méthodes de calcul exact des probabilités stationnaires dans une ligne de production à deux étages où des politiques à flux tirées très générales sont utilisées. Les distributions obtenues sont utilisées pour calculer les coûts de possession et de non satisfaction des demandes

Developing high quality software is difficult. Traditional software engineering methods emphasizes on structured and linear workflow of activities methods that have been criticized due to their rigid and inflexible nature. Recently, agile software engineering approaches such as Scrum have gained popularity in the software industry. These methods emphasize flexibility, speed, transparency, and teamwork aspects. In this thesis, investigation and comparison of three modern production practices and principles done, these include; Kanban, the 5S workplace organization method and Toyota Production System (TPS). The goal has been to identity features of these production philosophies and analyzed how they might contribute to software engineering processes, particularly to improve Scrum. The study indicates that many principles from these production approaches have been implemented in Scrum. However, the Kanban, 5S and TPS principles of Visibility are just partially implemented in Scrum. Scrum overlooks many aspects of programming that need to be visualized such as code quality aspects (testing) and representations of the actual software structure under development.

Em uma sociedade onde os consumidores estão cada vez mais exigindo por qualidade nos produtos e nos serviços, e com os mercados globalizados, dinâmicos e altamente competitivos, há uma crescente preocupação nas empresas não só em manter, mas em incrementar seu desempenho no que diz respeito a qualidade e produtividade. Devido a estes fatos, as filosofias japonesas de manufatura e administração, especialmente a Filosofia Just-in-Time (JIT), têm-se mostrado tão atrativas. O JIT é baseado no conceito de eliminação total das perdas do sistema produtivo através da estratégia de redução dos estoques. O sistema kanban age como a base do JIT, sendo a sua função direcionar a matéria prima somente quando necessário e na quantidade certa. Apesar do sistema kanban ser uma técnica simples, com a sua aplicação em diferentes situações nas quais as condições de operação da filosofia JIT não estejam plenamente concretizadas, gerou-se a necessidade de conhecer mais sobre como o sistema kanban se comporta e como pode ser otimizado na planta fabril. Assim, para que se possa obter os beneficios da utilização do kanban, o ajuste e compreensão do funcionamento do sistema kanbans é essencial. Considerando os aspectos mencionados, tem-se como objetivo deste trabalho desenvolver uma metodologia para o ajuste dos parâmetros do sistema kanban que proporcione melhores condições de operação de acordo com as metas do JIT. Objetiva-se também analisar como os parâmetros do sistema kanban influenciam no comportamento do sistema produtivo, e quais as penalidades ao sistema kanban caso as condições de operação do JIT estejam abaixo do ideal.

Många företag står inför det faktum att arbetet måste anpassas till globaliseringen för att konkurrenskraften skall bibehållas. Ett sätt att göra det är att arbeta geografiskt distribuerat för att på så sätt nå kompetens och fler kunder samtidigt som 24/7-arbete möjliggörs. Men för att effektivt jobba distribuerat över tid och rum krävs en medvetenhet kring de begränsningar som det medför och hur de skall överbryggas. Sandvik IT står inför förändringar och trenden går mot fler geografiskt distribuerade team. Syftet med denna undersökning har därför fokuserats kring det distribuerade arbetets nyckelfaktorer och hur Kanban kan bidra till ett effektivt arbete. Huruvida Sandvik IT’s stödfunktion Service Development Office (SDO) kan stödja det distribuerade arbetet har också utvärderats. Informationsbasen är en sammanställning av litterära verk som böcker och framförallt vetenskapliga artiklar. Från den teorin urskiljdes fyra nyckelområden för distribuerat arbete; arbetssätt och koordinering, kommunikation, ledarskap och teamkänsla. Till detta tillkom en femte punkt som handlar om uppstart för teamet. Utifrån dessa fem områden formulerades sedan intervju - och enkätfrågor. SDO valde ut tre team som informanter, varav teamledarna/koordinatörerna intervjuades och övriga blev tillsända enkäten. Resultatet från informanterna jämfördes sedan med den inledande teorin och via en analys kunde 16 nyckelfaktorer för distribuerat arbete (inom Sandvik IT) konstateras. Några tunga faktorer som konstaterades är; Ledarens medvetenhet, ett väl förankrat arbetssätt, gemensam kunskap och social interaktion. Faktorerna kategoriserades även till; Förutsättningar, teamstart och slutligen upprätthållande och utveckling. Till stor del kunde nyckelfaktorerna och behoven täckas av Kanban, men rekommendationen är att SDO kompletterar med en utbildning för teamledare/koordinatörer. Det kom att ses som en förutsättning för det distribuerade arbetet. Svarsfrekvensen i undersökningen var god och resultatet sammanhängande och därav anses rapporten ha en hög interorganisatorisk validitet och reliabilitet.
Many companies face the fact that the work must be adapted to the globalization so competitiveness can be maintained. One way to do it is to work geographically distributed and reach competence personnel and more customers while 24/7-work becomes possible. But to effectively work distributed over space and time, a consciousness about the limitations that this entails and how to overcome them are necessary. Sandvik IT is facing changes and the trend is toward more geographically distributed teams. The purpose of this study was therefore focused on the key factors for distributed work and how Kanban can contribute to effective distributed work. How Sandvik IT's supporting group, Service Development Office (SDO) should support the distributed work has also been evaluated. The basic theory is a compilation of literary works such as books and above all scientific articles. From the theory four key areas of distributed work was identified; working methods and coordination, communication, leadership and team spirit. A fifth point was also added, which was about the teamstart. Based on these five areas the interview - and survey questions was formed. SDO selected three teams with informants, and the team leaders/coordinators were interviewed and other staff received the survey. The results were then compared with the initial theory and via analysis 16 key factors for distributed work (at Sandvik IT) could be found. E.g. leader's consciousness, a well-established work method, shared knowledge and social interaction. The factors were also categorized into: Set-up, teams start and finally maintenance and development. To a large extent the key factors and the needs could be met by Kanban, but the recommendation is that SDO complements with (in particular) an education for team leaders/coordinators. It came to be seen as a prerequisite for the distributed work. The survey's response rate and the interviews outcome were good and the result was coherent. Hence the report can be seen as a report with high validity and reliability in an inter-organizational view.

En este trabajo, se reporta el proyecto de implementación de un sistema que envía señales a los surtidores para que sea suministrado en tiempo y forma el material a la planta, se reporta desde el análisis, diseño, implementación y resultados de este sistema para la empresa; actualmente, el método de surtido de materiales en esta área de la empresa, se hace de forma proyectada, esto quiere decir que llega el material cada cierto tiempo, para cubrir la producción estimada en ese lapso, sin tomar en cuenta los paros de línea o la baja producción.

O presente estudo trata a concepção e implementação de um sistema piloto de cartão KANBAN a um processo produtivo da Epedal,SA, empresa de produção de componentes metálicos para automóveis e motociclos, que utilizava os moldes tradicionais para controlar o fluxo de produto entre processos. Seleccionou-se um dos processos mais simples com vista a testar as potencialidades de uma abordagem Just-In-Time e a possibilidade de um posterior alargamento da solução a todos os processos produtivos que apresentem os requisitos para a implementação desta ferramenta. Até à data de entrega deste documento, a falta de algum material encomendado impossibilitou a conclusão da implementação e, por isso, não se contempla a totalidade dos resultados. Porém, a proposta de solução desenvolvida foi aprovada pela empresa. Em resumo, analisou-se o processo em questão, dimensionou-se o KANBAN e definiram-se as características adjacentes à ferramenta ABSTRACT: The present study aims to design and implement a pilot system of KANBAN card to a production process of Epedal, S.A., company which produces metal components for cars and motorcycles, and which used the traditional way to control the product flow between processes. We selected one of the simplest processes to test the potentialities of a Just-In-Time approach and the possibility of a further extension of this solution to all the production systems which present the requirements for the implementation of this tool. Up to delivery date of this document, the lack of some ordered material prevented the completion of the implementation and therefore, it does not include the full results. However, the proposed solution developed was approved by the company. To sum up, we analysed the process in question, dimensioned the KANBAN system and defined the characteristics adjacent to the tool.

Flexibilidade e rapidez na resposta são fatores fulcrais para obtenção de vantagem competitiva, para além da garantia de produtos correspondentes às especificações do cliente. A presente dissertação descreve o projeto realizado numa indústria de assentos de automóveis no departamento encarre da Melhoria Continua. O objetivo do trabalho engloba a identificação da importância das metodologias Lean Manufacturing no ambiente fabril, para a otimização dos processos produtivos e obtenção de flexibilidade à resposta do cliente. No seguimento destas metas, o projeto estará focado na implementação das ferramentas Kaizen e Kanban, por vias a analisar os benefícios da sua utilização neste tipo de indústria.
Nowadays, companies to survive in the business world, must be capable to respond to the customer requests despite their variaton. Flexibility, quickness of response and having products corresponding to customer specifications, are key factors to obtain competitive advantage. This papper describes one project that took place in car seat industry in the continuous improvement department. The goal of this work is to identify the importance of Lean Manufacturing methodologies in the manufacturing environment in order to optimize the production process and obtain flexibility to meet customer requirements. Keeping in mind these goals, the project will focus on the implementation of Kaizen and Kanban tools in order to analyze its benefits in this type of industry.

O Ministério da Saúde implantou, como parte da RUE, o Programa SOS Emergências, para aprimorar a gestão das principais unidades de emergência do país. O Kanban é uma das ferramentas indicadas para gestão de leitos hospitalares e do Tempo Médio de Permanência (TMP). Este trabalho objetivou analisar a implantação do Kanban, estimando o grau de implantação, descrevendo seus efeitos e identificando fatores contextuais favoráveis e desfavoráveis. Foram elaborados os modelos lógicos operacional, causal e teórico do Kanban. Dos 12 hospitais participantes da primeira etapa do Programa SOS Emergência, sete foram estudados, cinco por meio de entrevistas e visitas in-loco, e dois por meio de questionário on-line. Como resultado, dos hospitais avaliados, um tem o Kanban totalmente implantado, quatro parcialmente implantado (57,16 %), um insatisfatoriamente implantado e um não implantado. Dentre os fatores contextuais que contribuíram para a implantação do Kanban, destacam-se: as atuações do Núcleo Interno de Regulação, do Núcleo de Acesso e Qualidade Hospitalar, da Equipe Horizontal e da direção hospitalar, assim como a atuação dos apoiadores do Programa SOS. Como principais fatores que prejudicaram a implantação do Kanban, destacam-se: a direção hospitalar pouco interessada no Kanban, déficit de pessoal nas equipes de condução do Kanban, equipes flutuantes e/ou pouco capacitadas no uso do Kanban, sistemas de controle manuais (não informatizados), falta de compreensão da ferramenta e falta de fluxos definidos, além da resistência de médicos e outros profissionais. Os resultados indicam que os objetivos do Kanban são atingidos proporcionalmente ao grau de implantação e, que, quando totalmente implantado, o Kanban atinge todos os seus objetivos, dando visibilidade coletiva e proporcionando agilidade às soluções de problemas, diminuindo o TMP, otimizando o uso dos recursos hospitalares, melhorando a qualidade da assistência ao paciente, além de auxiliar na implantação da gestão da clínica.

O presente trabalho estabelece uma proposta de metodologia para a implantação de um sistema kanban de abastecimento, apropriada principalmente às características de pequenas e médias empresas. A metodologia apresentada foi baseada na experiência prática adquirida pelo autor na implantação da área de logística em várias empresas. A metodologia é apresentada em forma de projeto e apóia-se em três pontos principais: os dois primeiros consistem no patrocínio da alta direção e a necessidade de um coordenador geral. O terceiro ponto de apoio é dado pela visível redução dos estoques obtida em curto prazo através do programa. A metodologia foi integralmente implantada em duas empresas, uma do ramo alimentício e outra do ramo metalúrgico. Os resultados obtidos comprovam a validade da metodologia proposta. A análise crítica da bibliografia disponível apresenta os assuntos que devem se abordados na parte de treinamento solicitada pela metodologia, também não foi encontrada nenhuma metodologia prática similar de implementação de um sistema kanban de abastecimento. Isto nos permite acreditar que esta proposta metodológica traz uma nova contribuição ao tema em evidência.

In the race to improve stock management there are two approaches, one based on the Japanese philosophy of Lean Production and the other based on the implementation of information technology that improves the flow of information an reduces response times in the supply chain. These study aims to understand the impact of a White Goods Maker on stock levels of a solution that combines both approaches, i.e. Electronic Kanban via internet, which is a hybrid form of Kanban, using Information Technology as a control and management method. Using Action Research methodology, the implementation process of this tool was analysed through stock turnover indicators, enacting three cycles that include data gathering and intervention in the observed reality. This study led to the conclusion that the implementation of Electronic Kanban contributed towards the improvement of the stock turnover of the company in question.
Na corrida pela melhoria da gestão dos estoques estão abertas duas frentes claras, uma no sentido da implantação de sistemas de gestão do abastecimento alinhados com a filosofia japonesa de produção enxuta e outra no sentido da implantação de tecnologias de informação para estreitar o canal de informação e reduzir o tempo de resposta da cadeia. Esse estudo procura entender o impacto nos inventários de uma montadora de produtos de linha branca causado por uma solução que alinha essas duas frentes, o Kanban Eletrônico via internet, que aparece como uma forma híbrida de Kanban, usando a tecnologia da informação como forma de controle e gerenciamento. Através da metodologia de pesquisa-ação, o processo de implantação dessa ferramenta foi acompanhado a partir dos indicadores de giro de estoques e da repetição de três ciclos de seminários que incluem a coleta de dados e a intervenção junto ao objeto de estudo. Através desse levantamento, foi possível identificar que a implantação do Kanban Eletrônico contribuiu para a melhoria no giro dos estoques da empresa estudada.

\"Houve época em que as empresas podiam ser organizações focadas nos próprios processos produtivos e comerciais, pressionando o mercado a se adaptar a suas necessidades ou características, de acordo com o modelo de negócios por elas praticado. Na medida em que a sociedade e o mercado se alteraram em profundidade e complexidade, exigindo ao mesmo tempo melhores produtos, mais resultados e ganhos crescentes, as empresas passaram a sentir a necessidade de se envolver num processo contínuo de melhoria\", (PINEDO, 2003). Devido ao processo de globalização produtiva os concorrentes passaram a pressionar muito mais duramente, pelo fato espantoso de que o espaço de mercado passou a ser o mundo inteiro. Defeitos e atrasos na entrega dos produtos são mazelas não mais aceitas pelos consumidores. A crescente exigência destes por produtos customizados e entregas rápidas tem provocado um litígio entre as empresas e o tradicional sistema de produção em massa, que muitas vezes não consegue atingir as expectativas dos clientes. Para se adaptarem a esse ambiente competitivo, as empresas de manufatura, seguindo os passos da indústria automobilística, estão cada vez mais utilizando os conceitos e técnicas da Produção Enxuta, ou seja, produzindo em resposta a demandas específicas, somente quando necessário, controlando a qualidade do produto e do prazo de entrega, e ao mínimo custo. Nesse sentido, o objetivo desse trabalho é propor um método de implantação de sistema Kanban que possa auxiliar as organizações a utilizarem esta ferramenta da Produção Enxuta, retirando dessa os maiores benefícios possíveis, como redução do inventário, melhoria do sistema de gerenciamento, redução de atrasos em entregas, entre outros. Esse método deverá servir como base de orientação para os envolvidos num processo de implantação de Kanban.

In consequence of the process of globalization\'s productive the competitorshad started to pressure much more hardly, for the amazing fact that the market space started to be the entire world. Defects and delays in the delivery of the products are problems not more accepted for the consumers. The increasing requirement of these for specific products and special deliveries has provoked a litigation between the companies and the traditional system of mass production, that many times do not obtain to reach the expectations of the customers. To be detached to this competitive environment, the companies of manufacture, following the steps of the automobile industry, are each time more using the concepts and techniques of the Lean Production, or either, producing in reply the specific demands, only when necessary, controlling the stated period and product quality of delivery, and minimum cost. In this direction, the objective of this work isto consider a method of system implantation Kanban that it can assist the organizations to use this tool of the Lean Production, removing that the biggest possible benefits, as reduction of inventory, improvement of the management system, reduction of delays in deliveries, among others. This method will have to serve as base of orientation for the involved ones in a process of Kanban\'s implantation.

Abstract:

Isaberg-Rapid has problems with their internal material handling. The goal with this report is to create a layout for a pilot group in the production. Furthermore will appropriate carriers be suggested and the way of communicate between the stock keeping unit through coating to the assembly group will be analyzed.

The focal point is on a pilot group where the assembly of staple guns occurs. We have reviewed the material handling in the pilot group. By doing a spaghetti diagram the assemblers’ movements in the group is being analyzed and from that a new layout is proposed that will facilitate the handling of material in the assembly group.

Besides the spaghetti diagram the report is based on observations, interviews, a process flow schedule, a layout flow schedule and calculations.

To make the material flow to the assembly group more effective a proposal with a supermarket has been developed. The reason for using a supermarket is also to minimize tied up capital after coating. The transportation of material is handled by a dedicated material handler to minimize the interruptions in work for the assemblers.

The carriers that are used in the assembly group has been reviewed and to easily handle these a proposal with FIFO lines has been developed to make it easier for the assemblers.

In software development organizations there is sometimes a need for change. In order to meet continuously increasing demands from their customers, Sandvik IT Services- SITS, at Sandvik in Sweden, required improving the way they worked with software development. Due to issues like a lot of work in progress and lot of simultaneous tasks for individuals in the teams that caused stress, it was almost impossible to address the question of working with improvements. In order to enable the improvement process Kanban was introduced in the software development teams. Kanban for software development is a change method created by David J. Anderson. The purpose of this thesis is twofold. One part is to assess what effects Kanban has had on the software development teams. The other part is to make a documentation of the Kanban implementation process at SITS. The documentation has been made on the basis of both company internal resources and observations of the Kanban implementation process. The effects of Kanban have been researched with an interview survey to the teams that have gone through the Kick start of the Kanban process. The result of the thesis is also twofold. One part of the result is an extensive documentation of the implementation process of Kanban at SITS. The other part is an assessment of the effects that Kanban has had at SITS. The major effects have been that the teams are experiencing less stress, more focus on quality and better customer collaboration. It is also evident is that it takes time for some effects to evolve when implementing Kanban
