Abstract: The primary objective of this project is to develop a web-based application for the allocation of work to daily wage workers. Effective management of labour resources is crucial to the success of fieldwork. The assignment of labour to work constitutes one of the most vitally significant and successful processes in the management of labour resources. Consequently, estimating labour shortages and evaluating various labour resource allocation strategies can facilitate the allocation process. By utilising a system dynamics approach, a dynamic model is proposed for workforce allocation. T

This study describes the optimality in resource utilization of the manufacturing firms in the south-west region of Bangladesh. A translog production function has been estimated to describe the input-output relationship. The large scale firms have the opportunity to substitute capital for labour for producing the same level of output. On the other hand, scarcity in capital leads to lower productivity of labour in medium and small firms. Therefore, an increase in capital may lead to an increase in labour productivity as well as output for these small and medium firms. The productive labour force

Abstract:
AbstractA common perspective in migration studies is that of a North-South divide in European labour migration governance, with Southern European countries exhibiting a distinct – and generally less efficient – approach to the admission of migrants. Southern European states are known for their use of quotas, regularisations and the lack of emphasis on attracting highly skilled labour immigrants from outside of the European Union (EU). This chapter explores Italian labour immigration policy to assess whether its admission policy and practice has traditionally diverged from the Northern European approach and, if this has been the case, whether it has remained dissimilar since the disruption of the international financial crisis of 2008. I find similarities and differences between the Italian regime and labour immigration regimes in Northern Europe between the late 1990s and 2008. While the regulatory instruments (apart from general numerical limits on labour immigration) were like those used in Northern Europe, the Italian system was more open to permanent low and medium skilled labour immigration from outside the EU and had a more significant gap between its façade (laws) and practice than its neighbours in the North. The similarities with Northern European regimes have increased since 2008, as the system has become more selective, emphasising seasonal and occupational/sectoral permits, along with a stronger reliance on free movement and non-economic forms of immigration.

Abstract:
AbstractConventional in vitro mass propagation methods are labour-intensive, costly and have a low degree of automation. Bioreactor or automated growth vessel systems using liquid media were developed to overcome these problems. The use of liquid instead of solid culture medium for plant micropropagation offers better access to medium components and scalability through automation. However, the cost of setting up a bioreactor system is one of its disadvantages as such systems are expensive with limited number of manufacturers. A low-cost bioreactor system was set up using recycled, low biodegradable plastic bottles. This low-cost bioreactor, based on temporary immersion principle, has proven to be effective as a vessel for rapid plant propagation. It is designed to reduce the production cost of plant micropropagation. This chapter explains the step-by-step methods for setting up a low-cost bioreactor for banana seedling production. This low-cost bioreactor system has the potential to be adapted for large scale in vitro cultivation of the plant seedlings.

AbstractThis chapter provides a questionnaire-based survey on individuals, with an attempt to examine general awareness about I4.0, in the South India region. Results show inadequate future expectations regarding effects on several aspects of respondents’ lives, which mostly stem from a rather poor informational level of I4.0. Conversely, rather positive opinions and expectations of possible future trends come from respondents with prior information about I4.0. Thus, from a broader discussion we generalize, that for sustainable and successful development leading towards the Fourth Industrial Revolution, sufficient information and knowledge base within the potential labour force, especially in a particular region with promising demography, should be achieved. We find obtained information not negligible from SMEs management perspective and successful development of organization and network models.

Abstract:
Stockpile volumetric calculation is an important aspect in many industries, including construction, mining, and agriculture. Accurate calculation of stockpile volumes is essential for efficient inventory management, logistics planning, and quality control. Traditionally, stockpile volumetric calculation is done using ground-based survey methods, which can be time-consuming, labour-intensive, and often inaccurate. However, with the recent advancements in drone technology, it has become possible to use drones for stockpile volumetric calculation, providing a faster, safer, and more accurate solu

Abstract:
Productivity growth has slowed in Australia in recent decades. Previous research highlighted the roles of persistently weak non-mining investment and a pervasive decline in economic dynamism, including slower reallocation of labour from low- to high-productivity firms. While these facts have so far been considered separately, this paper attempts to connect them by documenting investment patterns for firms with different levels of productivity. We find that more productive firms are more likely to invest and expand their capital stock than less productive firms, but the extent to which this is

Abstract:
This paper maps Cambodia’s participation in Electronic and Electrical (E&E) value chains using trade statistics. It also conducts SWOT analysis based on both qualitative and quantitative data from a E&E firm survey, from which three major conclusions are drawn. This paper argues that E&E production in Cambodia has expanded rapidly with countries in different development levels featuring coordinated and complex production networks. Companies in Cambodia have joined E&E value chains since 2005; yet the scale, scope, and depth of production are so far beyond most comparable countr

Abstract:
This paper assesses whether the expansion of online job vacancies leads to a more efficient labor market. We provide compelling evidence that the increase in online job vacancy penetration in Colombia has had an enhancing effect on the labor market's efficiency by making it easier for firms to find workers to fill their job openings. An estimation of the Beveridge Curve (unemployment to vacancies relationship), a well-established theoretical development from search models, concludes that policies that increase online vacancy posting enhance efficiency.
