Abstract:
Gamification of language learning is a clear trend of recent years. Widespread use of smartphones and the rise of mobile gaming as a popular leisure activity contribute to the popularity of gamification, as application developers can rely on an unprecedented reach of their products and expect acceptance of game-like elements by the users. In terms of content, however, most mobile apps implement traditional language learning activities, such as reading, listening, translating, and solving quizzes. This article discusses gamification of learning natural language grammar with a mobile app WordBricks, based on a concept of more user-centric lab-style experimental activities. WordBricks challenges users to create syntactically accurate sentences by arranging jigsaw-like colored blocks. Users receive instantaneous feedback on the syntactic compatibility each time any two blocks are placed together. This Scratch-inspired virtual language lab harnesses grammar models used in computational linguistics and allows users to discover underlying grammatical constructions through experimentation. The system was evaluated in a number of diverse settings and shows how the principles of gamification can be applied to second-language acquisition. We discuss general features that enable the users to engage in game-playing behavior and analyze open challenges, relevant for a variety of language learning systems.

English is taught as a second language in India but it is widely used in the length and breadth of the country. The English curriculum is highly text based which focuses on the writing skills. This results in the poor speaking skills of the students in English. Good communication skill in English is the need of the day. The students need to be given enough exposure in the natural atmosphere to practice English communication skills. With the advent of technology this has become very easy. The language laboratories provide various interactive activities in the audio-visual mode that attracts the attention of the students and keep them engaged in learning the language in a natural atmosphere. The educational institutes should provide this facility to the students to help them enhance their language skills. This paper discusses the advantages and disadvantages of the language labs and compares the facilities of various language lab softwares.

Abstract:
The ability to communicate orally in a foreign language is fundamental and highly evaluated by both students and teachers. Therefore it is important that educational materials can provide communicative activities that improve this ability. A study of educational materials for young French learners revealed that the activities aimed to practice oral communication in fact were not really communicative. This investigation analyzes three educational materials for beginners in Spanish. The purpose is to see which kinds of activities the materials can offer for practice of oral and interactive communication, to compare them with educational theories and the Swedish curriculum and to detect similarities with the former study. The results show that the majority of the activities used in the materials, are not really communicative, they are mostly based on prepared phrases and there are few possibilities for creativity.

Abstract:
AbstractIn the last five years, the Italian Ministry of Education has focused on digital skills, recognizing them as fundamental and indispensable for the growth of the future citizens of the information age. Numerous requests have come from the European Commission, the Italian Ministry of Education and the employment world regarding the introduction of new technologies in schools, whether or not this is part of curricular activities. National guidelines for kindergarten and primary school curricula promote the introduction of new tools and new multimedia languages as fundamental for all disciplines. The idea of the National Operational Programme (PON) and the National Plan for Digital Education (PNSD) is to boost digital knowledge and participation in STEM subjects. The project presented in this article was launched in this context and was a collaboration with the Nintendo company to evaluate the “Nintendo Labo” product at educational level. This trial was conducted in a third-grade class at the “Allegretto di Nuzio” primary school in Fabriano (AN). The kit, an evolution of the Nintendo Switch console, was initially created for recreational purposes. The advantages and limitations of the product came to light during the few months of the experiment. The “Nintendo Labo: assembly—play—discover” educational project allowed students to merge theoretical and practical aspects of their knowledge, and understand complex systems through design and simulation.

Abstract“MakIN Teach—MAKerspaces for INnovation in TEACHing practices” is a two-year project recently funded by the Erasmus + program. It aims to promote the exchange of good practices in the use of rapid prototyping techniques, tools and spaces in the fields of education and training. The project supports teachers/educators working with students/learners showing poor educational results in theoretical subjects (e.g., mathematics, biology, geography, history, language, communication etc.). The project will conduct three short-term joint staff training activities and one student learning event, which will provide teachers/educators and students/learners with practical experience in makerspaces/fab labs. The materials and ideas developed during these transnational activities will be collected into an interactive e-book containing information about rapid prototyping technology, as well as tools for innovating the educational system and integrating fab labs and makerspaces into traditional teaching practices. All the partners involved in this project will have the opportunity to be part of a fruitful and durable network of educational institutions and makerspaces/fab labs at local and European level.

Abstract:
AbstractThe Hungarian National Minority Council (HNMC)—the non-territorial autonomy body of Hungarians living in Serbia—has developed its activities since the first democratic elections held in 2010, to include a creative strategic framework in the field of official languages of communication in Hungary. Its first mid-term (five-year) strategy for the development of the linguistic rights of Hungarians was adopted in 2012, its primary goal being to improve the legal background for official communication in minority languages in general in the country, to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the application of the relevant rules by the public authorities and to develop the linguistic awareness of Hungarian national minorities by raising their awareness of language rights. These strategic goals were supported by a range of programmes primarily focused on information, financing, providing law enforcement and assistance, etc.; some of them were copied by other minority councils in Serbia as examples of good practice. The second Linguistic Rights Strategy was adopted in 2021, after a delay of a few years. Besides containing similar provisions as the first document from 2012, with respect to strategic programmes in the field of official communications, its subject matter also covers some other spheres, such as the use of Hungarian in education, information or culture, and it relies much more on the benefits of information technology. Because each strategy is only worth as much as it has accomplished, this paper aims to present and critically analyse the valid Linguistic Rights Strategy of the HNMC in light of its possible practical implications in the future, with special regard to the existing experience gained during the realisation of the previous strategy.

Abstract:
Artistic expressions are a non-discursive symbolic language and promote the understanding of human experience. In the 19th and 20th centuries, outsider artists admitted to psychiatric hospitals offered a contribution to the exploration of the psyche without however activating processes of institutional change. In the second half of the 20th century, first in the Anglo-Saxon context, the creative experiences have been developed in different fields. In Italy the start of a radical deinstitutionalization work in psychiatry leads to the recognition of the creative process as a therapeutic resource. After approval of law 180, expressive activities have had a significant development in the clinical and welfare fields as a factor of evolution, cure and social inclusion.

Abstract This chapter delineates the emergence of terminology activities in Canada in the early 1900s, and goes on to cover the major turning points in the development of the discipline and profession up to the end of the 1980s. It shows how terminology became a key tool in carrying out Canada’s official bilingualism policy, providing the French terms needed to translate increasingly specialised texts from English to French. It also illustrates the pivotal role terminology played in the extensive campaign led by the Quebec government in the 1970s and 1980s to make French the official language of business, administration, and commerce in the province of Quebec. Lastly, it touches on the francisation of the common law vocabulary, another milestone in the history of terminology in Canada.

AbstractThe issue of the interpretation of the concept of an “employee of insurance undertaking”, which was used in the Directive on insurance distribution may cause issues from the point of view of the definition of the “employee” in terms of the type of legal relationship and the scope of activities that are allowed to be performed only by such employees. The authors demonstrate that, in accordance with the previous case law of the European Court of Justice/Court of Justice of the European Union, the concepts contained in EU directives should be interpreted in accordance with EU law, taking into account its autonomy and its aim (harmonization of legal systems of Member States). This should be applied even if a simple translation of a particular term used in an EU directive into the language of a Member State may give rise to an incentive for that term to be interpreted in the context of a local legal system.

Abstract:
AbstractStandards and specifications (henceforth standards) greatly simplify our everyday lives and the economy in many areas. By establishing quality benchmarks and promoting interoperability, they form a key pillar for international trade and competition. As artificial intelligence (AI) emerges as one of the key technologies of the future, two fundamental questions arise regarding standards: (i) What new standards must be developed specifically for AI? (ii) What modifications to existing standards are necessary to fully leverage the potential of AI? The first question is being addressed actively through a variety of standardisation activities and analyses of the status quo. However, much of the second question remains unanswered. Although the problem is discussed in the literature, there is a lack of both a definition of AI readiness and a systematic analysis of the existing body of standards. This chapter, which originates in the project ‘AI Readiness of Standards’, aims to close this gap. Due to the complexity of the topic, we shall start by focusing on the German body of standards. Nonetheless, we believe our findings and proposals are extrapolatable to other, related contexts. This chapter represents the findings of the abovementioned project: presenting a conceptual definition of AI readiness and, a validated systematic approach for classifying whether an existing standard is AI ready. The procedure outlined here also serves as the foundation for an automated Natural Language Processing (NLP) analysis of the entire German body of standards regarding AI readiness.

Abstract:
AbstractThis research investigates the case of the Joint Programming Initiative (JPI) Urban Europe and its role as an intermediary organization, developing research, and innovation programs for urban transition. In the literature, the role of an intermediary organization has recently been discussed as an effective promoter and developer of connecting visions, strategies, activities, and stakeholders. A conceptual approach to intermediary organizations for urban transition is operationalized, and its functions are discussed in this paper. As an example, the Joint Programming Initiative Urban Europe reveals how a transnational R&I initiative, represented by 20 national R&I programs in Europe, can provide scientific evidence for sustainable urbanization with a cross-sectoral, integrated, inter- and transdisciplinary approach implemented through activities beyond joint calls. The findings show that JPI Urban Europe acts as broker and facilitator of joint visions and starts to build communities for innovation, which is one of the important functions of intermediaries. The development of its Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda clearly followed a co-creation process, putting the dilemmas of city practitioners in the center. JPI Urban Europe managed to attract high levels of commitment from a diversity of stakeholders to its strategic priorities and mobilized respective budgets for its implementation. The analysis of JPI Urban Europe participation in funded projects shows that challenge-driven calls (putting the problem owners in the center) seems to successfully develop a common language for all stakeholders and has a higher likelihood to generate more transformative outcomes. The number of funded urban living labs in projects shows that room for experimentation in niches and their extension is provided. The number of city representatives as funded project partners could be increased to further stimulate active involvement. The JPI Urban Europe also acts as a translator and enabler for learning in the urban—as well as in the policy sphere—the third function. This can be confirmed by the number and type of organizations reached with its specific formats. JPI Urban Europe coordinates joint activities of mainly national R&I programs but has only indirect influence on change in these organizations and limited influence on changes within research organizations, businesses, or cities that are even less connected. Overall, it can be concluded that the strategic ambition of JPI Urban Europe towards transformative change is obvious, but some instruments and formats to translate the ambition into action need further refinement, and it needs further in-depth research to better understand the outcomes and impacts of its diverse activities.

Full text
Abstract:
AbstractNon-territorial autonomy (NTA) is one of the methods designed to accommodate ethnocultural diversity and empower especially relatively small and territorially dispersed minority communities. However, the appellation involves rather a generic, multifaceted and shifting umbrella term that embraces a wide variety of practices and theories, including those notions explicitly used in several national legislations, such as “cultural autonomy” and “national cultural autonomy”, as well as a bunch of similar denominations in theory, like “segmental”, “extraterritorial”, “personal”, or “corporate” autonomy. Their common elements lie in the fact that as a general rule they are based on the individuals’ ethnic self-identification and seek to represent a specific ethnocultural segment of the society regardless of its size and place of residence in order to preserve their members’ identities and distinct features, without aspiring control over the territory. Compared to territorial autonomy, NTA usually has less competencies, fewer participation rights in those particular areas being important for the group members’ identities, typically culture, education, language and religion, is less surrounded by legal guarantees and is financially more dependent on state budget. Moreover, the existing arrangements labeled as some forms of NTA in various Central and Eastern European countries all lack legislative powers and decisive authority. NTA can range from unrecognized and informal, non-legal practices and arrangements to private law institutions and even to constitutionally entrenched, institutionalized and extensive structures of separately elected self-governments at various levels, while alternative and emerging examples stemming from legal pluralism and network governance tend to be also accepted as forms of NTA. This in turn raises not only the question of the different institutional forms NTA may take and the various public and private law approaches, in which NTA may be embedded, but also the questions of group membership, effectiveness and the degree of institutionalization. Which individuals belong to a given minority, who has the right to enjoy the benefits provided by NTA arrangements, and who should decide on these issues? Are the traditional cases with their strong institutional and legal background the most effective, is there fully institutionalization at all, and further, whether NTA really needs to be institutionalized in a top-down manner and officially recognized by the state to make an NTA durable and functioning? To what extent does agency affect effectiveness, and are there other models that build more on bottom-up activities? To address the issues above, the present chapter aims to provide an overview of the various types and institutional forms of NTA especially in the European context, including the sectors and scope of their activities and the degree to which power has been delegated to NTA bodies. In addition, it also summarizes the various acts that might appear as a legal basis and guarantees for NTA in practice, including some “bypasses” that would present the pros and cons of the mostly applied legal solutions. A case study about the national minority councils in Serbia is included to illustrate how NTA can be built and institutionalized in a legal order in a top-down manner.

The teaching of languages to higher-intermediate and advanced-level students requiresa distinct methodology. Many of these students are, or will be, language teachers andneed to be motivated to continue learning the foreign language, practice the acquiredknowledge, and develop teaching and researching skills. Aiming at challenging themto go beyond their limitations, LAPLI — the language learning lab: a methodology ofintegrative CALL using the Internet — is made of 12 activities in which the students, based on authentic material selected by them, are stimulated to develop fluency andaccuracy in the foreign language, focusing on the development of their reading andwriting skills, but also promoting their oral skills. Students use the language as a toolto accomplish tasks in a contextualized way, being involved in individual andcollaborative learning, natural learning, meaningful learning and discovery-basedlearning, by means of the new technologies in a virtual learning environment.

Abstract:
The article highlights the peculiarities of the linguistic and political situation in Zakarpattia as a rear border region of Ukraine during the Russian-Ukrainian war. Attention is drawn to the fact of acute challenges and, at the same time, new opportunities for the country as a whole and for each of its regions in particular, especially for the state language policy and institutions involved in its implementation. Examples of successful implementation of projects in the field of language policy are given, including the adoption of regional programs for the establishment and development of the Ukrainian language as the state language and other initiatives. The author emphasizes the change in the language situation in the region due to the active emigration of local residents of Transcarpathia, in particular from among the representatives of national minorities, while the population is replenished by internal migrants. The main reasons for this situation are, on the one hand, the low level of socio-economic development of the region in the pre-war period, and on the other hand, the security factor associated with the war in Ukraine. It is noted that the language issue in the region continues to be used for manipulative purposes. This is evidenced by the monitoring of all-Ukrainian and regional media content during the war and the analysis of language biographies concluded with representatives of national minorities in Zakarpattia during 2021–2023 as part of the international research project “Debates on Linguistic Diversity - Managing Minority Languages in Post-Soviet Ukraine”. Important conditions for the return of Ukrainian citizens after the war are the adoption of a law on multiple citizenship in Ukraine, as well as the creation of conditions in the region for the proper mastery of Ukrainian as the state language and the coordination of efforts by government officials and NGOs to study the current needs of ethnic communities and develop a work plan for the implementation of the necessary programs and activities.

Abstract:
The evaluation methods of English for Specific Purposes have been debated over the last decades by all the professors and researchers involved in teaching English for law, medicine, engineering etc. The tests evolved from theoretical questions with ample answers, to multiple-choice tests with one or more correct answers, due to the fact that the university students need to learn specialty vocabulary mainly in English, as an international language and one of the most frequently used languages within European Union. At the same time the evaluation evolved from pen and paper to modern means of testing using computers. Nowadays computers with internet connection are used in the process of teaching and they are, or should be used for evaluation. A useful method of evaluating students’ knowledge both for English language and specialty may be by using real images of objects or short documentaries or even real images of activities being performed by people in a certain domain, with multiple choice test items following them, or several images to choose from which should correspond to a term, in order to connect more closely the academic education to the reality of our students’ future jobs. The method may be related to other types of evaluation and might include a listening part and perhaps, even a writing part. Designing such a test can be time consuming, but, in our opinion, the results may give the ESP teacher a real picture of students’ knowledge.

Abstract:
Modelling plays a major role in the evolution of scientific knowledge and is an objective for students' literacy in science. The emergence of accessible and powerful computational technologies imposes the development of a specific curriculum focusing on the study of science by computer modelling. This paper presents the results of investigating the possibilities of integration of computational modelling activities in Physics lessons, at high school level. Through the activities we propose here we will highlight the generality and transferability of models, by applying a unique mathematical model to solve problems that, at first sight, have nothing in common. The simulations we built with GeoGebra software and VPython programming language can be tailored both to the study of optical phenomena such as inferior or higher mirage, and to solving the famous problem of the brachistochrone. The interdisciplinary learning context, based on problem solving, calls for the application of knowledge from various fields: trigonometric and algebraic calculus, Euclidian geometry elements, Snell's law of refraction, energy conservation law, knowledge of programming and use a graphical software in modelling. The problem which students start from when investigating requires determining the fastest path between two points, separated by strips in which the propagation speeds are different. Using the achieved models, students can infer that in the case of the non-friction sliding motion, the cycloid is the fastest path. The simulations of motions were performed with GeoGebra, based on the kinematic equations, and with the VPython programming language, using the dynamic equations. The proposed modelling activities foster the development of students' transversal and transferable skills in mathematics, physics and computational technology.

Abstract:
Since its inclusion in the eLearning methodology, blended learning (or bLearning) has received several definitions, being regarded alternatively as: a solution combining different delivery methods (i.e., collaboration software, web-based courses, EPSS, knowledge management practices); a type of learning including a mixture of face-to-face classroom sessions, live eLearning and self-paced instruction; a student-centered approach integrating learning experiences in face-to-face and online environments. The aim of the present paper is to share our experience in using bLearning for two military English courses developed in "Carol I" National Defense University. NATO Staff Officers? Course and The Military English Course were the first forms of blended learning in the Foreign Language Department. From the very moment of implementation of this form of learning, we have approached it as a combination of face-to-face classroom methods with computer-mediated activities, with the purpose of tailoring an integrated instructional approach to the military student?s needs. Both courses comprised a face-to-face phase, but the former included a self-study module based on a CD, while the latter had an on-line component in which a teacher provided support for language acquisition. Our exposure to the method first included the theoretical approach, followed by the identification of the challenges posed by designing and delivering the bLearning courses; this ultimately resulted in ways of rising to them. The main issues lay in managing the instructional complexity, designing the course contents, assigning both the teachers? and the students? roles and responsibilities, harmonizing the course objectives and contents with the ADL support, as well as in establishing good communication among teachers complemented by careful planning of the units. Finally, the paper is an attempt to demonstrate the advantages of bLearning such as we have identified them in the long run: maximization of effectiveness both in point of meeting each course objective and of costs, multiplication of ways of accessing the content, opportunities for exploiting multimedia rich content round the clock which supplements the classroom time and allows for more scheduling flexibility, increase of the student?s responsibility for his/her own learning performance as well as higher language performance through measurable progress.

In International Conference Virtual City and Territory. Centre de Política de Sòl i Valoracions, 2009. http://dx.doi.org/10.5821/ctv.7605.

Full text
Abstract:
The tourist cities intend to recreate the international imaginaries about certain cultures, adapting to the given expectations of the visiting place. The imaginaries are the social reality built by the citizens. Through them, people seize and explain their perceptions on others, on events and relationships, and as well as on
 objects.
In the emerging cities of tourism, the building up of equipment, public as well as private, ignores the preexisting city. Cultural local experiences are left aside to prepare an optimal scenario that would make
the place attractive for the foreign visitors. In this sense, the cultural references for “the Mexican” are
captured trough architecture. They take elements from different regions and different historical momentums, according to the international imaginary. These architectural languages works as an
authenticity reference for space, validating the tourist experience.
The objective of this paper is to throw light on the origin of architectural forms –the morphogenesis- in an emerging tourist city. We will look at the urban and architectural languages, as well as the connexion that the exhibit designs keep towards the Mexican culture international imaginary. In order to do so, we will take advantage of the itineraries the tourists follow to get to the tourist developments, of the images exposed in specific places, and of the tourists account of their experiences. Our means of access will be
the real images (taken by the author of this paper) and those collected in web sites of hotel chains and personal tourist journals (blogs). With these instruments we intend to associate the place plastic languages with those derived from international imaginaries on the Mexican culture. As an example we
take into account to points of view: the real estate promoter’s and the tourist’s.
The case of study is Puerto Peñasco, Sonora, a city that has suffered a tough switch to the tourist activities within the last ten years, and of which its real-estate growth represents an emblematic case in the
 Mexican northwest.
Bringing forward a brief conclusion, it can be pointed out that the array of images and the port design achieve the paradoxical function settle themselves on the traveller’s memory (creating a memorable and
singular city), and at the same time they authenticate the tourist experience. In other words, these images are consistent with the imaginary that the tourists have formed even before they began their tour. This recreation of the images is accessible through the stories of other travellers or trough the speech of realestate promoters (realties), both of which available with a single “clic”.On other side, the references seek by the tourist realties are attached to the antique Mexican architecture: the pre-Hispanic cultures, the haciendas and the colonial period, that have very few or nothing to do with the regional environment of Puerto Peñasco. However, that array allows the creation of an "ideal"
environment, expected by the tourist to approach to the Mexican culture.
Finally, contrasting the point of view of a traveller and a real-estate promoter, we will expose the desired city and the fictional city. In this way, we will approach to the "real city", which now seems the copy of the other two.

In ASME 2013 International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition. American Society of Mechanical Engineers, 2013. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/imece2013-62615.

Full text
Abstract:
The laboratory side of a digital dental workflow consists of heterogeneous software tools including digitization (scanning), modeling (CAD), production planning (CAM) and production. The heterogeneity can be structured in two dimensions: ‘various partial systems’, composing the dental product development system and ‘various vendors’, offering software solutions for these partial systems. As a result the value creation process lacks efficiency and different input/output data streams are still necessary. As a standard for the representation of geometric data the STL format has been established, whereas for additional information, such as organizational and administrative data, as well as requirements and design data, the XML (eXtensible Markup Language) format is considered appropriate. However, a variety of proprietary XML data formats have been developed by system vendors. Thus incompatibilities are a significant source for errors. Data flow structures as available today only allow unidirectional flow of information ‘downstream’. A new approach is based on a federative workflow data management. The basic concept is a unified XML scheme that represents data about all activities and states of dental objects created throughout the whole cycle of dental process. The new unified XML scheme provides a data structure, which can be adapted for the respective input/output data streams of all partial systems. The XML scheme represents a unified data scheme which allows both vertical (within a certain partial system class) and horizontal (along the digital dental workflow and independent of system vendor) data usage. Each dental system supplier only needs to create one input and output filter for the neutral XML interface. The system architecture is based on a web server to which a XML database server is connected. The XML database server manages project specific XML databases. Data can be made available through REST-, as well as through WebDAV-interface on LAN or WAN. With the help of XPath and XQuery required data can be extracted from the database. Redundant data input as well as incompatibility errors can be avoided by this approach. The innovative core is a unified workflow data format, in which a bidirectional data flow can be provided for both downstream and upstream, along the digital dental workflow.

Abstract:
Through the present critical discourse analysis of Bogota´s main marketing activities scripted by Invest In Bogota - city´s marketing agency which promotes the city since 2006, the author shows how the idea of an “smart city” is being inspired by hegemonic global neoliberalism. The purpose of this marketing is to promote the city internationally as a friendly place to make business and reassure international investors that Bogota is a cosmopolitan and creative city where human resource is available, competent and speak the business language (English). The latter is relevant for current urbanism because urban marketing is now an important force that is transforming the image of the city and therefore shaping it physically, culturally and identitary. This research is part of the current new sociological studies and deepens into the contemporary trend of perceiving the city as a consumerism product, putting in the spotlight urban managers´ belief that economic growth are a safe way to obtain general well-fare for its citizens.
Keywords: Urban management, neoliberalism, discourse analysis, communicative actions

Full text
Abstract:
The idea of ‘innovative agonology’ came into being in 2016 in the Archives of Budo journal with the thematic section ‘Prophylactic and Therapeutic Agonology”. Innovative agonology (IA) is an applied science dedicated to promotion, prevention and therapy related to all dimensions of health and regarding the optimization of activities that increase the ability to survive (from micro to macro scales). The basic method of IA in the research and application sphere is a complementary approach in the broadest possible cognitive-behavioural perspective. At the essence of any particular science is the substantiation of its claims. Since any time one needs to either maintain health, survive, eliminate or slow down the effects of destructive factors, the key phenomenon is some form of combat, so the justification for these necessary actions is provided by the science of struggle. All five existing theories of struggle are published in Polish, with the terminology of Tadeusz Kotarbiński’s (1938) general theory of struggle (agonology) prevailing over the others. Kotarbiński placed military struggles on the ‘ground floor’, parliamentary and judicial disputes, commercial competition, sports fights, etc. on the ‘middle floor’, and he reserved the top floor’ for the general theory of action (praxeology), which includes agonology  but not vice versa. Since the usefulness of almost every scientific discovery is considered from a military perspective, it is not surprising that another theory (detailed one) by Józef Konieczny concerns destruction (1969). Paradoxically, Jarosław Rudniański published the theory of non-armed struggle during martial law in Poland under a camouflaged title (1983). In 1989, when Russian troops were still stationed (they left Poland on September 17, 1993), he re-issued the work (without camouflage) and supplemented it with the theory of compromise. At that time (1991) I published the theory of defensive struggle together with the theoretical basis for complementary prevention and therapy of somatic and mental health and increasing personal safety (survival). The law of the only possibility, as defined in my theory of combat sports (2000), is universal enough to be used in interpretations of even such remote phenomena as miraculous healings.Rudniański defined general rule of struggle as “an action in which a material or surrounding all the action’s time is in independent motion from an acting one, creating simultaneously strong and various resistance; act this way to be able at any moment possibly change both a plan of action and its manner”. Such a broad rule encompasses every case of human struggle with the need to overcome (fight) against factors that threaten one’s own or others’ health or life, as well as the defence of universally recognized values, nature, cultural products, technology, etc.Familiarity (by at least one member of the research or practical problem-solving team) with the languages and algorithms of detailed struggle theories, as well as with the basics of complementary research methodologies, is a prerequisite to minimize the possibility of omitting important details.

Abstract:
The paper deals with the possibilities of using specialized (virtual labs and simulators, software for natural process simulation) and general (programming languages and libraries, spreadsheets, CAS) software in school researches. Such software as virtual labs, software for natural process simulation, programming languages and libraries in school researches can be used to simulate phenomena that cannot be learned in a school lab (for example, for modeling a radioactive decay or for demonstrating the states of relativistic mechanics). Also, virtual labs in school practice are usually used in those cases where students cannot perform an experiment in real labs. For example, it is convenient for distance learning. The using of programming languages and libraries in physics learning research requires both students’ physics research competencies and programming competencies. That is why using this software in physics classes can hardly be recommended. However, programming languages and libraries can become a powerful tool for the formation and development of research competencies of physics students in extracurricular learning activities. The implementation of the spreadheets and the CAS in school physics researches is the easiest and has its benefits.

Leer, Jane, Florencia Lopez Boo, Ana Pérez Expósito, and Christine Powell. A Snapshot on the Quality of Seven Home Visit Parenting Programs in Latin America and the Caribbean. Inter-American Development Bank, 2016. http://dx.doi.org/10.18235/0009304.

Abstract:
Although there is ample support for the causal link between home visit parenting programs and child development outcomes, few studies have explored what it is that drives this relationship -to what extent home visit programs are implemented as designed in terms of the content and strategies used by home visitors. To our knowledge, comparable data on the quality and fidelity of implementation in home visit programs in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) does not exist. In light of this gap, this note presents a snapshot of home visit quality in seven countries inwhich home visits reach a considerable number of children. Using an observational checklist tool, we find strong rapport between visitors and families, and consistent involvement of caregivers and children in practicing activities during the visit. However, visitors rarely explain the importance of these activities in relation to child development, often times do not bring the necessary materials, and do little to encourage meaningful dialogue and feedback from caregivers nor demonstrate the desired activity or behavior. Only one third of the observed visitors emphasized language development throughout the visit. It is important to emphasize that these results are not generalizable due to the small and non-random nature of the sample of home visits observed. Nonetheless, this study serves as a pilot of the instrument and type of domains that can and should be measured in a home visit program in order to ensure implementation quality.

Samochowiec, Jakub, and Johannes Bauer. Dissemblables ensemble? La grande étude suisse sur la diversité. Gdi-verlag, Gottlieb Duttweiler Institute, 2024. http://dx.doi.org/10.59986/ozal2775.
