Female and male mayors in Brazil responded differently to the COVID-19 crisis, with effects on mortality that varied over time. In the early months of the pandemic, female-led municipalities were less likely to close essential businesses and had higher COVID-19 death rates compared to male-led municipalities. This research and policy brief uplifts findings from a 2020 survey of 223 California school district leaders. Findings regarding the preparation of beginning bilingual/dual language educators indicate that leaders rated teachers’ linguistic competencies in two languages as the most important ability, followed by teachers’ understanding of bilingualism and biliteracy development and linguistic pedagogical knowledge. The Nakoda Dakota Oyaate (NDO) Youth Council group of youth leaders from Fort Peck Assiniboine, Sioux Reservation, and neighboring communities. NDO aims to promote and nurture understanding of becoming leaders within the schools, community, and reservation. We worked with Spotted Bull Recovery Resource Center (SBRRC) to survey former NDO Youth Council members in February 2024.
