Sal (Shorea robusta), which is widely spread in both moist and dry forests in across the tropics, has been inconsistently described as either deciduous, semi-deciduous or evergreen species. To assess this contradiction, a quantitative record of the sal leaf dynamics (via monthly counts on tagged leaf falls and twigs) was made in different ANR sites of the Tarai East Forest Division, Haldwani. By using sample plots, the annual leaf fall data was collected and analyzed. The annual litter production (leaf fall & twigs) was maximum (8003.38 kg ha–1 yr –1) recorded in Surai (Jhankiya) followed

Abstract Currently, Pestalotiopsis leaf fall disease caused by the fungus Pestalotiopsis microspora is commonly found in Indonesian rubber plantations. The rubber defoliation period usually occurs for 1 month as a response to drought during the dry season. However, due to this disease, the rubber defoliation period occurs gradually with an earlier fall. Leaf fall can cause a decrease in the number of plant canopy which affects the leaf area index and latex production. Therefore, this study was carried out to examine the effect of Pestalotiopsis leaf fall disease on the decrease in leaf area in

Developmental instability, reflected by high fluctuating asymmetry, frequently indicates low fitness of an organism. However, it remains unknown whether in modular organisms, like plants, asymmetry is linked with performance at the level of individual metamers. To explore within-tree relationships between fluctuating asymmetry and leaf longevity, each third day between 22 August and 10 October 2001, leaves were collected under two large trees of white birch (Betula pubescens Ehrh.). The date of leaf fall (a proxy of leaf life-span) was not linked with either leaf asymmetry or damage imposed by

Our study of phenological variability in the common oak (Quercus robur L.) was mainly focused on the analysis of the leaf-fall phenophase. The observations were made in two populations in the area of Belgrade (Serbia). We observed 29 trees in each site, during three consecutive years. According to the results of a nonparametric analysis of Mann-Whitney U test we found differences in the leaf fall phenophase (the start, the length and the end) among the populations: statistically significant differences were verified for the start and the length of the leaf fall in two of three observed years,

This research report examines the reasons cement used in wells can deteriorate and fail. If the cement fails a leak pathway can form through which fluids can flow outside the well casing from one zone in the well to another and potentially reach the surface. The wells in question in this study are product storage wells, most notably used for natural gas storage, although the discussion can in general apply to any well. A review of general storage well use and construction are the lead in to the work.

Such behavior has been observed both in the laboratory and in the field. Older pipelines are more likely to fail during or immediately after damage due to limited toughness. Tougher modern pipelines can survive significant damage and can be susceptible to stable tearing upon re-rounding of the damaged pipe. Abstract:
This study evaluates the impacts of low-cost, performance-based incentives in Tanzanian secondary schools. Results from a two-phase randomized trial show that incentives for teachers led to modest average improvements in student achievement across different subjects. Further, withdrawing incentives did not lead to a “discouragement effect” (once incentives were withdrawn, student performance did not fall below pre-baseline levels). Rather, impacts on learning were sustained beyond the intervention period. However, these incentives may have exacerbated learning inequality within and across scho

North Macedonia has successfully conducted a national census after a twenty-year hiatus. The census shows a catastrophic demographic decline and a sharp fall in the proportion of ethnic Macedonians. It has also had an important influence on the debate regarding the country’s ethnic composition and powersharing mechanism, which has been going on for two decades. The results of the census give new momentum to the political cohabitation dictated by the Ohrid Framework Agreement and the incessant fights between the representatives of the Macedonian and Albanian communities for more political influ

With the country’s sustained economic reopening, the analysis suggests that GDP growth may grow by about 7.1 percent, but economic activity may weaken in 2023 as the global economic environment deteriorates. Inflation will likely continue to be elevated in 2022 but ma

Abstract:
This paper studies monetary policy in a New Keynesian model with persistent supply shocks, that is, sustained increases in production costs due to factors such as wars or geopolitical fragmentation. First, we demonstrate that Taylor rules fail to stabilize long-term inflation due to endogenous shifts in the natural interest rate. Second, we analyze optimal policy responses under discretion and commitment. Under discretion, a systematic inflationary bias emerges when the shock impacts the economy. Under commitment, the optimal policy adopts a lean-against-the-wind approach without compensating

It presents conditions shaping the global and regional outlook, projections on growth and consumer prices, and prospects coming into 2024. Carried by post-pandemic momentum but moderated by continued headwinds, the economy grew by 7.6 percent in 2022. For 2023, GDP growth is expected to weaken to 5.2 percent, and inflation is estimated to average at about 6 percent. As for 2024, growth is anticipated to r
