Abstract:
This thesis investigates two algorithms for the steady state analysis of HVDC convertor plant. The first is an already well established frequency domain technique, known as IHA (Iterative Harmonic Analysis), and the investigation centres on the nature of the algorithm under divergent conditions. In particular, a mathematical analysis of the algorithm is used to prove that divergence of the algorithm is not necessarily indicative of a physical harmonic instability. The second algorithm is developed to exploit the IHA technique within the context of the three phase a.c.-d.c. loadflow as an alt

This Ph.D. thesis aims to develop numerical models for two-dimensional and three-dimensional shallow water systems over mobile beds. In order to accomplish the goal of this dissertation, the following sub-projects are defined and completed. 1: The first sub-project consists in developing a robust two-dimensional coupled numerical model based on an unstructured mesh, which can simulate rapidly varying flows over an erodible bed involving wet–dry fronts that is a complex yet practically important problem. In this task, the central-upwind scheme is extended to simulation of bed erosion and sed

Comparing with transmission systems, distribution networks are commonly: (a) three-phase unbalanced oriented; (b) radial with sometimes weakly-meshed topology; (c) with high resistance to reactance (r/x) ratio; (d) unbalanced distributed load; (e) extremely large number of branches/nodes. Those features make the traditional load flow method, such
