The debate on the position of local pig species or indigenous Sulawesi pigs, especially on small islands, is still developing. Local Sulawesi pigs are thought to be the ancestors of local pigs in the Philippines and other islands in the Pacific. This study analyzed the phenotypic characteristics, species position, and molecular phylogeny of local pigs from Nain Island using the cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (CO1) gene. Tail tissue was used for genomic DNA extraction, CO1 gene amplification was carried out by PCR method, and amplicon visualization used 0.8% gel electrophoresis. The forward and

The effect of sex on the characteristics of the digestive tract and its relationship with the apparent total tract digestibility (ATTD) and performance traits was studied in 14 Mexican Cuino (MC) mini-pigs averaging 57.2 ± 8.1 kg, fed ad libitum a diet based on sorghum and soybean meal. Nitrogen ATTD was significantly better in females than in castrated male pigs. A trend was found for the relative weight of the entire digestive tract to be heavier in castrated males than in female pigs. Large intestine contribution to total digestive tract weight was relatively high in both sexes, 48.7 and 50

As a result of hard breeding work, people managed to achieve extremely high productivity from pigs, which entailed increased requirements for the feed quality, keeping conditions and microclimate. Pigs receive the main amount of energy from cereal grains, some energy comes from protein splitting and to a lesser extent - due to fat feed. The difference in the amount of exchange energy can reach up to 5 MJ. The lower the amount of energy in the diet, the more the animal needs to consume feed, so PVMA should be added to cereal mixtures to balance the diets by nutrients. Over the past decades, ful
