Abstract:
Due to the rapidly changing global markets and the impact of digitalization, businesses must continually seek new opportunities to enhance their competitiveness, including the logistics principles application. While logistics alone may not grant substantial competitive advantages, its strategic alignment with key competencies, continuous improvement, and the application of logistics engineering principles can significantly enhance an enterprise's competitive standing. The article aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of logistic engineering and its potential to revolutionize enterprise competitiveness management. The primary hypothesis of this research postulates the conception of logistic governance as the creation of an institutional environment that imparts logistic principles and philosophy to all participants. In doing so, it ensures the selection and generation of superior logistic practices among those available in the market. Choosing these best practices and integrating them with dynamic capabilities promotes competitive growth within an enterprise. The selection of best practices is adjusted within the logistics governance framework, which is proposed to be considered a new theoretical concept. Providing additional hypotheses in connection with management's focus has aided in developing a high-level model for logistical engineering. This model highlights two critical processes: an operation process activated by an event timer and the subsequent logistical engineering process. The result of this sequence is the creation of institutional rules for the logistics system, thus establishing an overarching framework. This enhances the system's efficiency and adaptability amidst varied business situations. Keywords: logistics engineering, integrated supply chains, competitiveness management, logistics governance

Maack, Christina. "Logistics Service Providers’ Environmental Management." Licentiate thesis, Linköpings universitet, Logistik, 2012. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:liu:diva-84425.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis aims to give a holistic description of logistics service providers’ environmental management, which has been lacking in literature. The aim is also to analyse how the logistics service providers’ environmental management provides value to their business, and to discuss its role in their business. This research contributes to the literature on green logistics, which regard the environmental sustainability related to logistics systems but largely lacks the logistics service providers’ perspective. The results support logistics service providers, who meet increasing demands on environmental sustainability, by providing a basis for discussion of how to work towards increased environmental sustainability in their business. It can contribute to discussions, evaluations and understanding of the role of environmental management as value-creating and strategic for the company. In order to explore what logistics service providers’ environmental management actually is, case studies of three different types of logistics service providers are carried out, and the environmental management of these companies are described in separate appended reports. This research is of an explorative nature and the research design has been developed in parallel with conducting the research. The researcher’s personal background thinking behind the research questions and purpose is also presented in addition to describing the research process, as it has impacted the research process. The analysis is inspired by the resource-based view. A literature framework on corporate environmental management and the resource-based view has been formed to provide a background for performing the case studies and to help structure the descriptions and analyses. The logistics service providers’ environmental management is related to compliance, internal efficiency and competitiveness. The analysis results show that environmental management to a great extent seems to be only of implicit interest for competitiveness at present and more to concern future competitiveness. A large part of meeting customers’ environmental demands today involves logistics service providers proving to their customers that they have an environmental effort, more or less regardless of what it actually includes. In order to further explore the value of environmental management, to show it more explicitly, the logistics service providers’ ability to cope with change regarding increased environmental demands is analysed. In this analysis, elements of dynamic capabilities in the companies’ environmental management are identified and presented. This research has generated several ideas for future research, first and foremost relating to organizational development of environmental management among logistics service providers and the development of more environmentally sustainable logistics services.

Abstract:
During the last decades, disasters and catastrophes both natural and handmade have been radically increased and it seems this way of things will continue the next years. In such this situation there has been even a growth in terms of humanitarian operations, in particular of the total humanitarian effort in terms of resources and supply chain in general. According to the literature here, the logistic impact covers up to 80% percent of the total effort. All the organizations involved in these operations gave special attention to logistic performance, with an always crescent focus on effectiveness, efficiency and sustainability. In fact, the long term social impact that the disasters and the next operations can cause to the population and in general to the area, is well known by the researchers. For these reasons it is important to define, monitor and improve the logistic functions efficiency; moreover it is important to introduce a new sustainable way to reach the success of all the operations perspectives. With this goal in mind, this research introduces new theoretical innovative methods to analyze the logistic systems performances and it introduces, through an appropriate and deep literature review, new models that present the sustainability and the social impact associated to the logistic practices in the humanitarian environment. This thesis is composed by these principal sections: • Introduction and analysis of the humanitarian literature with a focus on the different divers that usually are used for the evaluation of humanitarian operations. Moreover it presents a definition of a general decision making framework and its application. • Introduction and definition of forward distribution models. In particular, the discussion of the tradeoff between the costs analysis and the demand satisfaction or shortage, associated to the use of different fleets and the development of innovative heuristic models for the distribution that considers typical humanitarian features. • Introduction and definition of innovative reverse logistics practices based on what is normally used in the industrial supply chain and based on what the humanitarian organizations are implementing in the fields; as an example it is presented a real reverse logistics case, with real data and issued from an Italian case study, the Emilia Romagna earthquake (2012). Moreover, an innovative reverse logistic model for the location of reverse plants is presented, with the study of their impact in humanitarian operations. The present work has carried out to the publishing of several scientific contributions in relevant International Journals and Conferences, like Journal of Humanitarian Logistics and Supply Chain Management, International Journal of Service and Operations Management and International Journal of Operations and Quantitative Management.

In the modern economy, which is becoming socially oriented, the problems of the quality of manufactured and sold products are put forward in the first place. The solution to the quality problem is in the center of attention of manufacturing enterprises, for which there are special subdivisions - quality management services. The quality that meets the requirements of consumers and the achievements of scientific and technological progress determines the competitiveness of the enterprise, and at the same time - the commercial success and stable financial condition. Competition is the incentive that makes all subjects of the economy constantly improve the quality of goods and services, develop an operational and strategic policy in the field of quality.

Abstract:
The aim of this research is to contribute to the literature in the field, filling the gap concerning how logistics impacts the relationship between pollution and economic complexity worldwide. Investigating the weights of the multiple dimensions of logistic performance appears very relevant and strengthens the literature in the field in terms of studies carried out in abnormal times that impact society and the economy at their core. From a methodological standpoint, this study uses a structural equations approach, revealing a complex mediating chain linking pollution with logistics performances. Our results show that logistics is a net contributor to pollution and further investment in supply chain green innovation is needed to achieve the objectives of green logistics.

Coordinating transactions among companies that allow the appropriate movement of goods, services, and information to consumers from suppliers effectively and efficiently still is hard to accomplish. There are many situations in which the logistic performance failed, frequently because of the difficul-ty of synchronising the business technological systems with the logistic processes, thereby yielding disastrous consequences. Thus causing the loss of time, money, and even certain companies could close and will be weeded out if they do not cope with application of e-logistics while performing their business. This article presents discussion of e-logistics and its application in e-commerce. The applica-tion of innovative solutions in logistics will yield posititve outcomes that will help improve the compa-ny’s overall performance. The consumer satisfaction by e-commerce will be taken in consideration, and in particular by e-logistic solutions. Such methods as literature review, synthesis and and compar-ison wil be employed.

Abstract:
International trade (IT) is recognised as one of the driving forces for business and the growth of countries’ economic. The amount of IT flows is contributed by the “logistics revolution”. According to the conceptual approach, the development of transportation modes, logistics infrastructure may facilitate in-ternational trade. However, it remains unclear whether logistic performance changes contribute to IT flows since the number of researches that examine the effect of logistic performance on IT is limited. So, this paper aims to determine whether the flows of IT are contingent on logistics performance. The research re-lies on panel data of 28 European Union (EU) Member States (MS) over 2007–2016. The results of our investigation confirmed that the changes of logistics performance positively related to IT flow of EU MS, but this impact differs across countries.

Abstract:
The military logistics is a key element in the military operations and activities, therefore it has to be adapted to the context in which combat and combat support troops evolve, to provide the full range of goods and services, in a sufficient and timely manner. This article explored, using the case study method, the extent to which the current and future procurement programs of the Romanian Army covered the broad range of logistic requirements generated by the actual economic and security context. Building on the large spectrum of logistics functional and related areas requirements, and also on the new strategic visions adopted this year by NATO and the EU, the article highlighted the fact that these strategic trends were in line with the sustainable development goals, on one hand, and also very demanding for the Romanian military logistics. The conducted study reveals a gap in the existing and planned procurement programs, which should be more logistics oriented, and also more focused on meeting the sustainability criteria determined by the context of sustainable development. Moreover, the research points to the need that the national defense industry be activated to include Romania into the military supply chain, to reduce dependencies from external support and enhance resilience.
