AbstractThe karyotype of Chironomus tenuistylus, unlike that of C. longistylus, lacks large heterochromatic blocks at the centromeres and a nucteotus in arm C. Also, the banding pattern in 4 of the 7 chromosome arms differs between the species. The banding patterns belong to the most primitive ones in the thummi-complex. An inversion polymorphism has been found in arms A and B of C. tenuistylus, in arm B (rarely D and F) of C. longistylus. Amorphophallus Blume ex Decne. sect. Amorphophallus in India is revised. It is the smallest of the three sections in India with five species, viz. In the coastal region of central Queensland female red-spot king prawns, P. longistylus, and the western or blue-leg king prawns, P. latisulcatus, had high mean ovary weights and high proportions of advanced ovary development during the winter months of July and August of 1985 and 1986. The distribution and abundance in the Gulf of Carpentaria, Australia, of the three zoeal (= protozoeal) stages of Penaeus merguiensis, P. esculentus, P. semisulcatus, P. latisulcatus and P. longistylus are described. All species were largely coastal in distribution.
