Abstract:
(Uploaded by Plazi for the Bat Literature Project) Between January 7984 and January 7985, bats were collected from the natural park El Refugio (Department of Antioquia, Colombia). Species were classified (Handley, 7975) and brains and brown fatty tissue were checked for rqbies virus (Lyssa virus) by inmunofluorescens, sellers and mouse inoculation techniques. A total of 220 individuals, corresponding to two families, six subfamilies and 7 7 species were examined. All of them gave negative results for the virus.

(Uploaded by Plazi for the Bat Literature Project) Bats are reservoirs for a wide range of zoonotic agents including lyssa-, henipah-, SARS-like corona-, Marburg-, Ebola-, and astroviruses. In an effort to survey for the presence of other infectious agents, known and unknown, we screened sera from 16 Pteropus giganteus bats from Faridpur, Bangladesh, using high-throughput pyrosequencing. Sequence analyses indicated the presence of a previously undescribed virus that has approximately 50% identity at the amino acid level to GB virus A and C (GBV-A and -C).
