Abstract:
A mirror subjected to a fast mechanical oscillation emits photons out of the quantum vacuum—a phenomenon known as the dynamical Casimir effect (DCE). The mirror is usually treated as an infinite metallic surface. Here, we show that, in realistic experimental conditions (mirror size and oscillation frequency), this assumption is inadequate and drastically overestimates the DCE radiation. Taking the opposite limit, we use instead the dipolar approximation to obtain a simpler and more realistic treatment of DCE for macroscopic bodies. Our approach is inspired by a microscopic theory of DCE, which

One way to improve a search strategy in a Genetic Algorithm (GA) is to reduce the search space towards the feasible region where the global optimum is located. The paper describes the effect of an adjustment of a search space size of GA on the macroscopic statistical properties of population such as the average fitness and the variance fitness of population. The set of equations of motion was derived for the one-max problem that expressed the macroscopic statistical properties of population after an adjustment of a search space size in terms of those prior to the operation.

We study the effect of local decoherence on arbitrary quantum states. Adapting techniques developed in quantum metrology, we show that the action of generic local noise processes --though arbitrarily small-- always yields a state whose Quantum Fisher Information (QFI) with respect to local observables is linear in system size N, independent of the initial state. This implies that all macroscopic quantum states, which are characterized by a QFI that is quadratic in N, are fragile under decoherence, and cannot be maintained if the system is not perfectly isolated.
